B&W's in Tulsa

Thread Starter
I am interested in auditioning some 802's. My closest dealer is Audio Dimensions in Tulsa, OK, which is a 4 hour trip one way. I was wondering if any forum members have had experience with this dealer. Pros, cons, pricing? Thanks for any advice.

No experience with Audio Dim. in Tulsa, but my buddy and I bought from SCS in Springfield, MO. They deal in B&W stuff, are quite helpful, and have a real nice store.

Not sure how far Conway is from Springfield, but I would give them a try ...........I bought a Paradigm setup from them and couldn't be happier !!

Jeff,

Another B&W dealer in Tulsa is The Phonograph on E. 61st Street. The owner is Steve Hardin. Check with Steve to see if he has any 802s for auditioning. I think Steve's choices in order of preference are Meridian, Revel and B&W.

If they don't have any, go down to Dallas at Hillcrest High Fidelity. They are a big B&W dealership and definitely have the 802s with Krell amps and processors.

Good Luck,

Audio Dimensions is a very nice store and the salespeople are very nice and helpfull as well.
The main guy there is from Phonograph actually http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif.

From what I can tell though Don't expect much if any of a discount. They have their 802's in the main theater room with a Sony g50 matched with Krell if I can remember correctly.

Ah, the infamous Phonograph ! SCS in Springfield was a 2-hour additional drive versus buying in Tulsa, but well worth it. Don't expect a discount from the Phonograph !!!

I haven't heard the 802's. I am sure they are great, but when I listened to the 600 series versus the Paradigm 60's there was no comparison. The 600's were cost comparable, but had a very pronounced muffled sound when ran off the same receiver. That wonderful Kevlar bulletproof crap. Paradigm won hands down IMO.

jhawk5,

The owner of The Phonograph is a very nice gentleman who by nature is an audiophile and will discount on higher price items. On items less than $2000 in cost, there would probably be very little or no discounting by many dealers, unless they were some sort of high volume discount house.

The B&W 802s retail for $8000. In Dallas they can be had for nearly 20% off during certain times of year at Hillcrest High Fidelity.

I was forst hooked to high end audio by a visit to Audio Dimensions in Oklahoma City when I was 13. They sold me some great used equipment (Magnepan SMGa speakers) and gave great advice for many years.

I was somewhat disappointed when I visited the Tulsa store. I was not taken seriously by the sales people and on one occasion simply ignored. I guess they look at me and dont see a sale ( I am 23 now).

I am sure their service and support is as top notch as their other stores. I just wanted to relay my expierience.

cant help on dealers, but my front array consists of 802N's and an HTM1, powered by a Theta Dreadnaught and all I can say is WOW WOW WOW. The sound is completely incredible. I auditioned many speakers before choosing these. I havent found any music genre or film that doesnt sound great.

good luck with the purchase.

Hi Anthony,

What are you using for the front end? I have 803/HTM1 at this moment, looking at the Dreadnaught 3 channel to replace my current receiver setup.

I know and have dealt with both Pat (Audio Dimensions) and Steve (Phonograph)--both are fine gentlemen. I'm sure that on such a big ticket purchase you would be able to negotiate a reasonable price.

Custom Audio is in Little Rock, which is less than thirty minutes from Conway. They are a very reputable dealer, although they are the only high end audio store in the area, and they act like it.
Don't expect a discount. I would love to have the N802's. Custom Audio has them hooked up to McIntosh equipment, and they are awesome.
