PS3 on CRT RPTV?? 1080i issues?

Greetings,

Long time 360 owner, also a Wii. Had original Playstation and PS2. So of course I am now about to plunge into the PS3 world. My question is, I remember way back when, when the PS3 first came out there was "some issue" with "some signal" and 1080i.

I have a CRT RPTV Hitachi 51F10. It handles whatever resolution I set the 360 to output in, be it 480p( of course not used) 720P or 1080i. The native resolution of the set is 1080i but also accepts 480i, 480p, 540p, 720p. I would run the PS3 via HDMI to the TV. (but could also run component if needed)

I got nervous when reading the Motorstorm2 thread and someone said MS1 did not support 1080i.

So what if anything do I need to watch for? Pay attention to game outputs on the boxes? Will some games not work, movies, etc.?

Anyone remember what the original issue was?

Just set the resolution to 720p...you'll be fine.

This issue is with TVs that can't accept a 720p signal. The PS3 doesn't automatically scale everything to your desired output resolution, like the 360 can. So games that only support 720p for HD (quite a few older games) can only be played at 480p on those TVs.

Your TV is pretty similar to mine and I'm 99% certain yours will accpet 720p, so you wouldn't have any problems.

I'm 100% certain it will take 720p if the manual says it will.

Yep all you need to know is if your TV can do 720p, you have nothing to worry about.

no worries ..

Just set the resolution to Auto, then your good to go!

i had the same set (but 46" model) and i hooked it up the the ps3 fine... no worries. your set supports all resolutions. the only problem, as mentioned already, is for the older CRT's that don't support 720p, but your set does, so no worries.

Thank you for all the confirmations. I was just holding on to things I "thought" I remembered from the initial launch.

Also thanks for the no..."search the forum" and "you should know this"....answers. Would have been somewhat warranted....but thanks again.

I have a similar set I think the 51F710 model. No problems at all. I set it to auto through HDMI and let it do what it wants. BluRay looks great and 720P games do too. Games that enable 1080 it takes to 1080. While it may only be "i" it makes no difference.
