I just got my Foobar2000 audio playback setup with full iPhone Remote display and control of the playback of my songs.

This is stunningly nice!

I can sit in my chair and whip out the iPhone, launch Apple's own Remote app (usually used to control iTunes and AppleTV devices) and see all the libraries, playlists, etc. that Foobar2000 has loaded.

I can then select a playlist, see the tracks in it, select one, and it starts. After a bit, it shows the album cover along with transport controls.

If I want to explore my 1300 disc library, no problem, it's super-fast and I can start up an album quicker than anything I've seen yet.

All the neat features of the Apple Remote app are available. Super cool

So how to?

Just download this Foobar2000 component:

Enjoy FooTouchRemote

you make it look easy... Thank you for the discovery.

How about iMac users, are we out of luck?

Have to check. Am on road for two weeks. Quick reminder as to where in set-up menu do I find the assignment option? Is it under "Option"? Thank you for your help.

Does anyone know if AVP-a1 will be replaced anytime soon? If not does anyone have any guess?

My point is, if you are in the market for the best (that leaves no other options other than the denon combo for me), should i go for it or should i wait for a replacement model since new technologies are on the horizon? (hdmi 1.4 audyssey dsx and other possible new ones) Because i dont think i can pay this amount of money for at least 5 years

Are you trying to do high-rez multichannel, or just play back you CD / Downloads collection?

If the later, then your existing imac and that Apple remote app already do waht you need them to.
Just use an optical or coax SPDIF link between the Mac and the AVP and you're done.

In the Web Controller, it's under SETUP > MANUAL SETUP > OPTION(1).

Has anyone tried this app? Thoughts?

Somewhat of a problem issue, I have been experiencing some problems with the Net/USB function where I select from the saved stations under the favorites header. The problem is that when I select from the list it is not the station I selected. It is like it randomly selects from the list of saved favorites. Anyone experience this issue? Resolution?

Thanks for the feedback!

Hai,

I just installed the app, as far as i can see it allows you only to send 2 times of events (pity since its at least 2-way).

1) Volume control + mute

2) SI command (select source)

so if you switch to usb/net its just that it switches to that input.

Maybe i am missing something but i think that is all they allow. Maybe i should mail them and see if they are willing to make something i (we?) want. They clearly have the main communication part and feedback working.

Daniel.

PS: ive send them a email offering my services for feedback/development maybe they are open to my (our?) wishes.

I was at the Bristol sound and vision show and asked the same question to a Denon rep as i had recently bought the AVP and POA combination he said Denon have no plans on upgrading AVP POA and it will be years away, only the lesser models are being changed and upgraded.
I'm sure we are OK for at least 5 years my last system was good for 10 years before being sold

They might offer an upgrade to the current AVP model. I sent them an e-mail about this. They said they are "studying" it as an option. I think they might have to consider it as sales of the Panasonic 3D sets are so high they had to increase production by 30% to try to meet demand. If sales continue HDMI 1.4 will be a very big concern.

I got the same response from Denon in Hong kong.

I bought my first AVP in 1995. It was 2008 when they came up with its replacement. In this economic time I see less drive to pick up the pace of replacement so I think we are good for a while.

Why would they upgrade the POA ?, I am more than willing to bet we will see a update or a replacement or eol for the AVP the next 2 years. in 2 years the avp will be 5 years old thats already long for a pre/pro.

As pointed out they could stop making pre/pro's at this level like they did between 1995 and 2007.

Daniel.

I do hope Denon will try to get the AVP a long life span with some hardware upgrades.

We will see.

That would be great! I really really think my AVP is fantastic! If they decide to add new functionality to handle newer technology like HDMI 1.4 that would be outstanding customer service!

Thanks Danielo!

No one experiencing the random selection of interent radio stations under Net/USB/Favorites? It is wierd for sure. I have another AVP and the new AVR-4810 and they work perfectly. I hate to do a hard reset and not sure that would correct it either.

Yep. Same thing happened to my AVP. I posted a detailed description the best I could describe it here. Long story short, I ended up doing a processor reset to fix it as I was out of ideas. I was able to reload my saved settings so it wasn't a big deal. I did stumble across a similar problem in one of the 5308 or 4810 threads so I think it is a current firmware issue. Sorry, I didn't bookmark it but it is here on AVS on one of the receiver or firmware tracking threads. One thing I did run across was the suggestion to try to toggle the random play mode off. I found this after I did the reset so I don't know if would work or not.

OK. Here is a link to a post in the 3808/4308/5308 firmware tracking thread that details the same problems we are having with the random net/usb tuning. It gets moved to the 3808/4308 bugs thread shortly after the linked post.
I will try the suggestion of removing the random play before doing the hard reset. Thanks again!

Multichannel digital audio input from the HTPC (now documented on the WiKi) does present one additional configuration detail:

DVD-Audio discs are mixed assuming the player (or the processor) will add back in +10dB on the sub levels.

Therefore in the Manual Setup -> Audio Setup -> EXT. In Setup menu set the Subwoofer Level to +10dB

Now, I hope all of the iTrax music I download is also mixed to the same assumption, as so far, that seems to hold. At least the 'Rachmaninoff plays Rachmaninoff' album seems to be OK with the +10 setting.

why is getting high-quality audio playback never easy?

Hope so to. Denon is having a major press event in NYC on April 26 so hopefully we will see some announcments and dates from them as there as has been nothing for a while.

A hardware upgrade allowing HDMI 1.4 on the AVP, Audyssey DSX, PLIIz, extra preouts for the extra channels, would be nice. A few AVP owners saying they are more than willing to pay for these upgrades to keep their units current. I know I would. Hopefully Denon comes to the party. Maybe tomorrow we will have a better view as to their intentions, maybe even with a Denon 3D compatible Blu-Ray player?

Oh crap -

My responses from Denon-

Quote:

> Just saw that Denon released a DAB+ product and wanted to know if you will release a standalone tuner that is DAB+ compatible that can record and display CD covert art, etc?

As far as we know, there will be no stand-alone product featuring DAB+ in the near future.

> Lastly will the AVP-A1HD be getting the Dolby PLIIz and Audyssey DSX upgrades with extra preouts for the extra channels, and more importantly HDMI 1.4 upgrade to allow for 3D or are owners left behind? I know I would be willing to pay big money for these upgrade.

At the moment, Denon Japan is investigating that. It will definitely not be released this year or early next year.

> And if no upgrade for these features on the AVP-A1HD will there be a replacement coming that will have these features in a Pre/Pro of the same quality of the AVP-A1HD?

This is for sure. There will be upgrade and/or new product within 2011/12.

That last response is a bit contradictory but I assume they are refrering to the 4810 version Pre/Pro

Actually, it doesn't have to be contradictory. There's nothing stopping them from releasing a hardware update for an existing product and releasing a new product in addition to that. Depending on how they do it, there could be boards shared between the upgrade and new product that would make it a very reasonable thing for them to do.

This is for sure. There will be upgrade and/or new product within 2011/12.

Maybe i am stupid but it seems to me to be hinting to one thing : Don't expect us to update the AVP in 2010 and not in Q1 of 2011. And when it comes it will be announced Q2 or Q3 2011 and it comes as a update to the AVP design but they are not sure if they will also 'upgrade' older models.

Makes perfect sense to me the hdmi 1.4 / 3d market is still too small to force this now.

Daniel.
Nope, I don't think you're stupid, Daniel .....I think that's exactly what is says. And it doesn't seem contradictory to me that they reserve all options- to upgrade existing equipment and/or introduce new products. Makes perfect sense.

Im finally got the go ahead to move my gear in the other room and get rid of the cabinet(Which was a PITA if there was ever a problem.) The question I ask is I noticed the audyssey mic cable needs to be longer for me. If I get a female adapter and another cable will that cause any problems?
