I see that but it only allows me to input one cross over the sub.

How set the cross overs for all the speakers.

Some the installer has my B&W 801's crossover at 140.

I need to reset these.
It's right below the distance settings. You need set them as SMALL, and select ADVANCED in the crossover section to enabled separate settings for each pair.

I was not scrolling down enough, thanks.

This is strange under parameter check for crossovers it showed my fronts at 150Hz.

They were set on small at 80Hz. I tried to reset them several times but parameter check keeps shows crossover for fronts at 150Hz.

Comments,

What IP address do you use in your browser for web access. I am connected over my wireless network.

Thanks

It doesn't really matter what specific address is used...the AVP connects just like any other device on your network. You can either have your router assign it an address automatically, or assign it a fixed address. (I happen to use fixed addresses for everything, but it would work just as well if I let the router pick one.)

I've been meaning to buy a small receiver for the secondary setup in my exercise room for awhile now. Because I'm so impressed with the AVP's design and execution, I just assumed I'd be going with a Denon. A "little brother," as it were.

Well, Amazon has a killer Gold Box price on the 3310CI right now, so I was ready to jump until I went to that thread to read up on some user experiences. One comment really caught my attention, essentially claiming that everything below the 4310CI is made in China and known to be plagued with quality issues. I looked at the "Back" photos on Denon's website and, sure enough, only the 4310CI and up say "Made in Japan" on the back. Everything else comes from China.

Is anyone here familiar with this? Is it, in fact, true that the Chinese-made Denons are known to lack the quality we know and love in the AVP? I really don't need a 4310 for my exercise room, but I would rather pay more and get quality than save some money and reacquaint myself with the headaches of trying to use run-of-the-mill CE junk. (Or maybe 3310 owners have just been soured by a bad experience specific to that one model?)

Any feedback appreciated.

Quality vs Quantity in my opinion.

I've been tempted by that one as well, especially at the Gold Box price. The Made In China designation throws me off too. I am considering it to replace an AVR-5800 in the bedroom because I could use HDMI switching. I have an amp I could add. Decisions, decisions.
It's a cost and low price thing. Most any comparable brand's receivers at that price point that are going to cost the same as the 3310Ci will come from China or the equivalent. They will have more or less the same quality. They use the same quality of parts. Pay more, get more.

Being made in China should not be a blanket condemnation of quality. They make what they are paid to make and there is some excellent stuff coming out of world class factories in China today but you don't find those goods in Walmart or Bestbuy. We the ones who are asking them to make cheap goods so they make them.

I have a Denon 3803 and 3808 that are well-built and have been absolutely perfect--operated with not a single glitch (that wasn't operator error) for years. I never looked if they came from China though (and don't care).

I think Progprog should get the 4308! The AVP has probably spoiled him. If he doesn't think he needs that kind of quality in an exercise room then he shouldn't worry about the 3310Ci.

Did you already spend time on setting up/fiddling with audyssey ? The reason i ask is that many of us took months to get a good balance (getting the best out of our avp and amps) and setting up subwoofers is part of that process. Most run multiple subs and have been fiddling with crossovers, audyssey etc etc. You really have to spend a few days when the kids/wife/animals are out with this to get the last 10% out of your system. There is no quick way todo it.

Daniel.

PS: also really try to ban component, composite. svideo or any analog input from your video chain. You will always see beter results if you stay digital (dvi, sdi, hdsdi or hdmi).

Since nobody has asked yet, do you need surround sound or just stereo in the exercise room? If just stereo, why not just get a nice 2 channel amp and use one of the extra zones on your AVP?

I fully agree china can make some great stuff if you pay them and control the system. Apple is a example of this on some/most of their products. The point is that within denon the china vs japan thing is not only where its build but also seems to be a line that denon itself considers a different range :

lowend mostly build by inkel in china :

until this year that was all below the 38xx line, that line now shifted to the 43xx line.

upperline build in japan :

having features more aimed at full ht setups i guess, higher costs less focus on other brands compares :

43xx and up

and then we have the flagship models, things like the avp and poa :

All hand-built in Denon's own high-end factory in Shirakawa, Japan.

Daniel.

I agree with Audiobear on this. I can understand why some have concerns about this, but just because its made in China, it doesn't mean that quality goes out the window. Even if assembled in China, they must follow the methods, and measurements outlined by the Japanese Engineers. The scenario is very similar to Honda and Toyota automobiles that are built here in the U.S. The manufacturing and testing are all managed by the Japanese.

Thanks for all the comments, guys. Just to be clear, I wasn't making or assuming a blanket condemnation of Chinese-made goods. My interpretation of the comment I read was more like what Daniel implied....that Denon itself may be drawing a distinction within its own line-up, and place of manufacture happens to reflect that. This could play out, for example, in things like the network card that 3310 owners were complaining about. Maybe Denon specs it, but leaves their Chinese contractor to actually source it.....and it turns out that it's just not the same quality as the card Denon sources in their Japan factory.

When I said I didn't need a 4310, I just meant I probably don't need the power and extra features. I haven't decided yet, but it'll probably just be driving a four-speaker setup (on-wall fronts & center, plus a small sub), and I don't foresee adding much more than the four sources I currently use in there. But I would still like the same level of quality I feel I have in the AVP....I was just hoping for kind of a "scaled-down" version for this smaller, less-complicated setup.

The exercise room and my HT are in opposite corners of the house, so that would be a pain. But more importantly, it's really a separate setup, using all its own sources and control. As described above, it's not likely to be a full surround setup, but not just stereo either.

Thanks again for all the comments. I don't see a deadline on the Gold Box offer, but I suppose I'd better decide soon...
I agree, it's about quality control not the physical location of the assembly plant.

This might be interesting for a second system;
http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/r...oxx-first-look

I'm giving it some thought to replace my JVC 702 which is also a digitally amplified unit. I like the all digital path units for the combination of size, efficiency and sound quality. I think you get better bang for your audio buck going with these if you're shopping under $1k and if all you have are digital sources. I wish someone like Denon made a unit with Audyssey but I guess there's always trade-offs.

Very interesting. I was unaware of this small-form-factor niche in the receiver market. I like that it doesn't include a lot of stuff I wouldn't need anyway, like a bunch of legacy inputs and video processing. Don't know much about Sherwood, either, so I'll look into it some more. Thanks for the heads up.

Just start it over again. I think it sometimes gets tripped up by network interruptions.

Yes, the AVP is kind of flaky when it comes to network traffic.

I recommend powering off via the small power button, then go back into the firmware update screen and restart the update. Mine failed the first time, too.
I just spoke to Denon.

I did what you suggested, and machine seems to be fine.

It is completely impractical for me to pull the machine out of the rack, move it into my office and connect to the router for the update.

Denon is very negative on firmware updates wireless although I have never had a problem with my wireless connnection and network.

What is the opinion of the forum regarding wireless firmware updates?

Is there anyway to use a laptop to download the firmware to the laptop, and then load the firmware via Ethernet with the laptop.

Is this an important firmware update?

What does it fix?

Also since this update comes from Denon's servers in Japan is there a better time of day to do the update to minimize network traffic .

Thanks
It's not a major update, but spend $11 for this:

Well, I must be lucky because while I am seating here in my office the Denon restarted itself, and did the update. Went out to the machine and it was 95% complete.

I did not realize that update failed continue to keep trying.

Anyone know what this update fixed?

Unfortunately, you can't download the update ahead of time, then run it. You have to let the Denon online update function run in real time....this has been a common gripe, although most glitches are just like your experience- you simply restart it and it's fine.

I run all my updates over a wireless connection, but not the one built into the AVP, which appears to be fairly unreliable. I use a wireless bridge that provides a stable connection for my various HT components....they think it's an ethernet connection and they're happy.

Maybe you spoke too soon. It's not uncommon for the updates to shut the unit down at various stages of the process.

Jeremy Kipnis is the owner of this amazing home theatre shown in these photos. It has a gigantic 10' X 18' screen, professional video projector, numerous custom DVD/CD, Blu ray player, VHS video recorder, Laserdisc, a gaming console, huge speakers, and luxurious seating. It is worth a cool $6,000,000. Some people sure know how to live.
