One more question (for the people who have the upgrade ) can you assign the surround B ( which are the height/wide channels) to other speakers channels (like sub 1)? Or are they now permanently height/wide channels?

Yes, Audyssey Pro will also work with XT32.


Although it was reported as not possible via the web control, the Upgrade manual (p. 29) indicates Free Assign applies to these speaker posts as well. I'm sure someone can confirm.

I haven't tried it since I have no Height or Width speakers to play with, but the updated manual indicates you can free-assign all channels where ever you want. i.e., use the FR for FWL or FWL for SW3 etc... There doesn't seem to be any limitation.

I'm assuming since they re-did the table to include the H/W channels they would know if they're assignable. If not it's a pretty goofy error.

I'm tearing down my system right now for a new carpet install, so I won't be able to check it for a few days.

I missed on your second question, but the first response was spot on. After the upgrade the XT32 is Pro Installer ready. I confirmed this one with Denon several months ago as the wording on the US website implies that Audyssey Pro is actually included with the upgrade which is not the case, rather only that it is Pro Installer "ready" and can be used with the Audyssey Pro Installer kit (separate purchase $700US).

Hi Frank,had my AVP upgraded in the UK & I can confirm it is now pro ready,I can also tell ya XT32 is a nice step up in SQ,I haven't got a pro kit yet but I'm looking forward to it as the final step in getting the best from Audyssey.

Hi Jason its good to hear its going well and I'm glad its pro ready.

My dealer told me the guy who brings the box, (in the UK) is supposed to wait while the AVP is packed and then take it away again. My box was delivered on Friday but the guy left, now looking like collection Monday, (I hope).
It may be because I live in N. Ireland, (seperated from the UK mainland by the Irish Sea), the box may have to come from Denon UK so this may help explain some of the delay.
Just started a project last week to update my loft insulation so it's come at a good time and is filling my nights until my AVP returns.

Besides my upgraded AVP I also upgraded my projector to a JVC RS55. Now I have the sound and picture that really rocks. Good combo.

+1 (for me too). I can't imagine a better combination for the money! The more I hear XT32 on my 5308ci the more I realize where my money went (although I also love the ability to home everything into the AVR for 3D into the RS55 as well!).

Anyone using RS232 commands post upgrade for new features. Cant seem to get them to work. Example MSAUDYSSEY DSX. Doesn't do anything. I can get to them using standard, but not directly. SJ

Thanks. I'm still using my DVDO Duo as my source hub and overall video processor (just feeding the HDMI Audio to the AVP). I'm so used to using it, calibrating, etc. that I'm just sticking with for now. Seems crazy to have two full CMS units, but this setup continues to be great. Don't even use the new 3D AVP pass through as the Duo works great at auto sensing and switching. SJ

Like you im still using the Duo which is handling my CMS. Btw Ive asked the question can you assign the surround B after the upgrades or are they permanent height channels? rnr is looking into it for me once hes up and going but as he said if anyone lets me know before hand that would be great.

Hi Frank,I'm sure I looked at the surround B free assign for another member but I can't remember how it worked,I'll have a look tonight & get back.

I tried free assign for the surround B channels on the web interface and it won't let me make changes - as soon as I select something different, it immediately reverts back to the original assignment. The GUI on the AVP does allow me to change the assignments, but I haven't confirmed that assignment changes actually work by hooking them up to the amp and confirming the output is as expected. Hopefully this helps.

According to the upgrade documentation:
- Surround Speaker B: removed: Output terminals will now function as Front Height or
Front Wide depending on setup after upgrade

They even labeled the output accordingly covering up the sur b label. SJ

Just checked & the channels formerly known as surround B are still freely assignable after the upgrade for everything but surround B !

Makes sense. There are no more surround B channels.
In the assignable channels table on pg.29 of the updated manual the former Sur. B channels are listed as "FHL/FWL" & "FHR/FWR" channels, and all channels are assignable to those and vice versa.

I think you've got it right. They are GONE. Taking their place is height or width channels. SJ

My upgrade kit came in. Next Tuesday my AVP will get upgraded. I told the tech no stickers on the front, make sure all the firmware is updated. Have forgotten anything?

No need to worry about the sticker,it peels off easily without leaving residue,the difficult bit is going through all the many settings from scratch again !

I was the one asking the question on both threads (AVP & AVR) and never really got a concrete answer. After the upgrade I tried everything but what Denon has done is completely disable the 'Amp Assign 2' outputs and what used to be Surr B is now locked to only the H/W assignments.

My option on the AVR Frank was to use the baseband RCA outputs to feed an external amp and let Audyssey EQ (sum), the ouput levels (my problem is the amp I selected is 3db too low on output so I can never get each row the same level of output (looking for a 3db cut on my AVR Surr A outputs and I thought I remember years ago seeing a device that could do that on the speaker level outputs).
