Just completed the firmware update here as well, and boy, what difference. The bass is there now!

I had thought many of my SACDs where mixed too 'polite' with not enough LFE.

Maybe now I can re-listen to my Genesis SACD remasters.

a full power off (using the little button) might get it back.

Do you use a hard wired Ethernet link? That's recommended for best results

The initial authorization step is slow, but once it starts downloading it proceeds steadily for me. Today's update went smoothly, total time from start to finish was about five minutes.

Hard wired, all previous updates worked without a hitch. A full power off had no result. By disconnecting the LAN wire the unit works, but it continues to tell me via the display to retry the update and I can't get rid of the prompt.

Do you have an upgraded AVP? SJ

Denon Support wasn't much help at this point, unfortunately (may have just been the support rep I spoke to). So I tried a local authorized service center. Spoke to them and they recommended I bring it in for them to look at, which I did.

I got a call from them yesterday letting me know that my DSP board was bad and that it would need to be replaced. $700 - ouch, but that explains the speaker issues I had run into recently.

I asked him if that could have affected the firmware update and he thought it may have. They'll be updating the firmware for me after they get the new DSP board in (they said it would take about a week to come in).

Hopefully, this will address the firmware problem as well or it may mean I've got more unidentified issues?

Not sure whats up but since the upgrade-board replaced large parts of the dsp board (or better bypasses it) maybe you should ask if upgrading it would help. If its already upgraded than you would expect this to be replaced free of charge if its in the new part of that board.

Daniel.

I'd suggest going back into the Manual Setup->option Setup->Firmware update and see if there is an option to cancel the request.

Wow!!!

This update for DenonLink delivered SACD/DSD multichannel audio (restoring LFE levels) is a huge win.

I've been listening to SACDs since yesterday and I'm re-discovering great music. My Genesis collection is getting a workout, and several other classical pieces are now reproduced in their full glory. Organ pieces now have 32' pipes with real authority. The house shakes as it should

So for anyone with a DenonLink tethered player, do the firmware update *NOW*, then go re-listen to your mch-SACDs.

The problem is that once I connect it to the internet it automatically goes to the update where it simply locks up. If it isn't connected to the internet the firmware update selection is disabled.

Have you tried disconnecting the power cord and then re-connecting?

Hi guys,

I will be upgrading to the 3D upgrade soon (when the distributor in Thailand finally receive some of the upgrade kits ...).
Anyway, I have been looking for a solution to convert an iPad 2 to an universal remote but via RF, not IR or Wi-Fi. I am using a Logitech Harmony 890 with 2 RF blasters and am very pleased with it, but want to find a solution for the iPad. I have a lot of equipment to control (more than 8).

Is any of you guys have any idea ?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Have fun.

Just wanna give Denon kudos for supporting their now legacy AVP with firmware updates.
what? they stoped avp production?
Just making light of us who aren't upgrading their AVP by calling the non-upgraded version legacy.

I'm curious to know how many still haven't upgraded? I know I count for 1

My avp needs processing board replacement and I have a question: if i do the upgrade, would that include a different/new processing board?
Otherwise it would be foolish not to do the upgrade even if I don't need it.

Can you be specific about which board your AVP needs? Regardless, the upgrade is an auxiliary board that attaches to the decoder board. Which means, you needed a fully working AVP for the upgrade to function.

...Thanks for the reply.

Ok. I just wanted to double check...

Because my left surround channel is not working, the service center came to the conclusion that (after an ordeal, I must say) my avp needs a new processing board. they said that in order to do the upgrade they have to fix the problem first, then order the kit and then do the upgrade. I suspect that if I ask for the upgrade i will be without the sound system for extra few weeks. And that is a deal breaker, not to mention the cost of the repair which I still don't know.

It's certainly understandable that they need to fix the initial problem before installing the upgrade. But it doesn't make sense that they need to fix it BEFORE they order the upgrade kit (as long as you're willing to pay them for it so they don't have concerns over being stuck with the kit) and it doesn't make sense that doing the upgrade should mean you're without your AVP for any more than another day after the repair is finished. I dropped my AVP off after the upgrade kit arrived and had it back the next day. Which service center are you working with? Are other service centers available (there should be in the NYC area)?

...It's they major center in NJ, not too far from the city.

Well, I don't blame them for "playing" safe, but the reason I went there is that being Denon's major service center on the east coast the turnaround time would have been not as long.

I have been without the avp for almost a couple of weeks already, as they had hard time finding the problem.

silly question:
I already own the audyssey pro kit. I case I go for the upgrade, would I need to change or buy a new Audyssey pro kit + licence?
Thank you

Nope, you use the same kit and the license is tied to the MAC address (essentially the serial #) of the AVP, so there's no need to buy a new license.

Does the new upgrade only help for DenonLink players, or any sacd players?

My Oppo & every other sacd player I have ever hooked up to this thing has always had weak bass response....

~EDIT:
My Oppo now sounds great with SACD playback (I have a 981) but only on pcm out, the dsd output still lacks serious bass response.

Oh well. At least it works better than before! Hello Bass!
Pink Floyd Wish YOU WERE here SACD sounds even better than the blu ray version finally! Thanks!
I would say all the players that export dsd through either hdmi or any other digital cable ,that can carry dsd mch signal. That"s my take.
Allthough i",m using denon"s dlink4 with my a1ud.
Does the denon 5308 get this sacd weak bass update as well?I checked firmware update status and says latest.
I supose so.

What are you waiting for? Don't be sad when the first post comes in: "I called my service center and they said Denon discontinued the kits"

Yeah, the XT32 feature just seems to work so well with the AVP. For me the difference is so apparent now that I have had my upgraded unit for several months. SJ
