Some of you are talking about AVP being discontinued or going out of production - no new ones being built.

Has this been confirmed by an official person or announcement by Denon? Or just some dealer?

And when would this take place? I hope not immediately
Later this year I can deal with to make some decisions.

Denon mgt with expected date early part of 2012. They're already in short supply.

great

I was hoping that I'd have much of this year to decide to make the gear change & come up with the $$ needed to make the swap.

If Denon is gradually joining Pioneer in the ranks of the financially troubled, I wonder if these companies continuing to cheapen receivers & basically appealing more to mid-fi & bottom dwellers hasn't contributed to their problems. There are many who think a receiver that costs $1K is hi-end & extravagant

If there is no more AVP, I honestly don't know what I'd replace my Pioneer SC-09 with The 4311 is light on connectivity for my needs and 5308 would be mostly a lateral move. I'm leery about the Integra 80.3 & having to deal with Onkyo issues.

I guess the market for the more "affordable" hi-end is really going extinct. To me, the AVP was perfectly positioned.

In this case it has nothing todo with the state of D&M i think they would not mind keep building them but they are running out of parts. There is a big difference in doing a new design and keeping one going in this case. Some of the parts in the avp are from the 2004/2005 time period picked in 2007 because they where proven and stable parts but by 2012 these parts are out of production.

I guess the whole upgrade to 3d but most important 3 new powerful dsp's made us all think about where the avp is and most of us have decided to keep it for 3 to 4 more years if we can so not sure how the resale market will be if you don't pick one up now.

As a result i can see how you would reach a point where eq can bring less and the plusses and minus points flip.

However in my setup its clear that the gap is still bigger and eq brings more, So now that we have the option of audyssey pro in europe combined with the xt32 level of tuning i have been wondering the following :

Lets assume i want to try to improve my room how good would the pro kit be in finding these problems compared to other solutions even if the aim is not to use it to 'fix' some of them. For the price ($550+$150) it seems to give you 2 things 1) finding problems in your room 2) help using the eq system to fix them. how much value is in each of these parts ?

Second question is for pro kit owners who use mac's instead of pc's. How have you been using it on your mac or did you just resort into using a old laptop pc with rs232 and xp .

Daniel.

Regarding your Mac question:
I use Parallels with my Mac and it works pretty well.
I remember reading however, that if you want to use the latest audyssey software (mine is V.3) you would need to use bootcamp.
The latest software has extra features regarding the extra high/wide speakers, I think.

If it does get released, then the passive 3D it produces will offer a full 1080p per eye. LG's current passive 3D TV's are the standard 1080p that half the resolution in 3D mode to 540. So all I can do is wait and hope that LG delivers on their 4K promise.

Thank you.

What's the track record on refurbished AVP's?
Dakmart is one who sells Denon refurbs. anyone have experience with them or refurb'd AVP's in general?
Thanks!

Thanks!

I don't have any direct experience with a refurb AVP, but I can say I bought mine (open box at Vann's with full warranty) for less than Dakmart is asking for a refurb. So before going with a refurb, I'd suggest calling around to the authorized dealers and see how low they'll go for a brand new one - ignore the prices they list on their websites as many of the dealers will negotiate if you call them (see the Denon 4311CI @ EE for $1329.99 thread to get an idea). I suspect refurbs would be just as reliable as factory new, but might come with some minor cosmetic blemishes. The only real downside is probably the shorter warranty.

Dakmarts reputation is far from being stellar.

Accessories4Less has a much better rep ....

http://www.accessories4less.com/make...plifier/1.html

Also note that as of Oct 2011, Denon extended the warranty on refurbs to 1 year ... so Dakmart's statement about being exclusive with a 1 year warranty no longer applies.
Well, I can only hope to have as good an experience with the upgrade as Danielo and others here who have posted about their respective dealers but so far I am rolling my eyes.

I went in to my local DENON SUPERCENTER today to make the payment and was told it would take about 1-2 weeks for the kit and 1-2 days for the upgrade. I will go back and take my AVP in when the kit arrives.

I had to assert myself to actually speak to the technician so it was an interesting visit with them and I sort of felt like I was taking my Lexus in to the Toyota dealership and I was dealing with people who mostly worked on Celicas.

My uneasy feeling was made worse when I was told the warranty was only 90 days and it only covered what they did (the upgrade). My unit still has 1-1/2 years left on the factory warranty but apparently it doesn't cover the upgrade. So, it makes me wonder how Denon will handle repairs in the future if something happens while still under factory warranty but out of the 90 days...........

BTW, the labor portion of the upgrade is $150 as they did not charge sales tax on that portion.

I am hoping to get the upgrade done quickly to test it out before I mothball the AVP during my listening room mods as I don't want to loose any of that precious 90 day warranty.

yup, sounds like Norman Electronics to me

Your post suggests they haven't changed their stripes since I last dealt with them in 2006 on a major repair involving an expensive former flagship AVR I had that was lightning damaged. Even Pioneer's local branch manager helped me in the process of dealing with them.

I've had 3 experiences with them and none were totally 100% satisfactory. They put 2 scratches on 2 Pioneer Elite pieces while in their shop, the AVR and a $2000 laserdisc player that needed a new optical assembly. I'd be asking the technician to take extra care in how they treat the ext. case.

IF you can get to the technician, you can actually have a very intelligent dialog but they make it very difficult to do so. They act like they are doing you a favor answering the phone

IMO, they have an arrogant take it or leave attitude & poor customer interface skills.

But they are claimed to do good work; I guess that history is why most of the mfg's still use them for warranty work in Atlanta. I've dealt with several good HT dealers in ATL over the years & none of them said they liked dealing with Normans for their warranty work.

Hope they do good for you!

just have to deal with their BS to get the job done. you are lucky they didn't make you wait their usual 21 days just to look at it!

sorry for the rant. I don't even own one yet

out of curiosity, did you consider other centers you could ship it to?

I actually had a decent experience with them a couple of years ago with my Denon 5910CI that needed the main board replaced out of warranty. It did take 3 weeks for the repair but they seemed to do a good job and it was nicely wrapped in plastic when I went to pick it up and I didn't notice any damage (a definite fear I had at the time).

I think they deal with a lot of "walk in" traffic off the street for televisions as the showroom was full of TV's and there were 3 other customers with TV issues while I was there.

Unfortunately, as was discussed earlier in this thread, our choices are limited for the upgrade if we don't want to ship it off by truck to some distant service center and who knows if it will get better care even then..........What the heck; It's only money.

Daniel.

Yeah that 4K player looks like it'll be one heck of a machine! But you're probably right Daniel in that it will most likely be pretty pricey.

But the company's 4K home projector looks very interesting, and is something that I would not mind having in my HT. And at $10K it looks even more inviting. Of course I don't know if it comes with a lens or if that's extra, and I'll also need a special screen.

I"m curious. We have some avp"s with problems ,after the upgrade.
Has anybody counted them? I don"t know whom to blame but there is definitely something wrong.Probably the technitians that perform hardware and software .
I suppose seth could count them up.
I don"t know , but the latest problem with daniels's avp really got me worried.

There have been a few cases where the technician forgot to do something (such as install the firmware update), but definitely not much in the way of problems that couldn't be explained and/or resolved.

I got an open box POA from Accessories that was damaged on arrival. Denon would not cover it under their warranty nor would FedEx accept the claim. It looked to me like it was not damaged in shipping but damaged out of the starting gate, although it had Denon's sticker that it was warranted to work. I'm condensing a long sickening story here...I'd think twice, maybe try to find a demo or a used unit you can pick up in person...

Thanks gsr, that's not too bad then. I talked to our technician over here they said its a 6hr process and they will keep it for 3 days to make sure everything is 100%.

I upgraded my AVP recently. (Australia). Aydessey is now stuffed, not that I use it anyway, but that's not the point. Auto calibration fails, no mic or loudspeaker error. I've had the mic swapped over, now I have to pull it out & send the unit back to be re-assessed & repaired.

I've only got about 100 hours on it & zero hours on the POA. Both units have 2.5 years Warranty remaining. That's right, I've been sitting on the boxes & haven't fully commissioned them. When it comes back all working good again, I'm thinking of selling the combo & going with something high-end instead...

Such as? I quite honestly can't think of any surround sound processor at any price that I'd rather have at this time. There are certainly plenty of amp options that would be at least as good.

Im curious which service centre did you take it too? I spoke too APG and they said they haven't had problems with any upgrades at all so far so good. I haven't had mine upgraded yet.
