Well, I tried to watch it tonight in my basement HT, only at - 24dB, my wife came down to tell me that all the glasses and windows upstairs were shaking so I will have to wait until she is out for the evening

Well since i have power meters , except the poa, in my sub amp , and also in the main l,r , they were all flying around . Like birds and bees.
Unbelieveable soundtrack.
We all (i think) have watched movies with a strong soundtrack , but this is something else. It"s from another planet. Not only the lfe , all chanels.

Sounds like quite the HT, Jomark. Have you posted any pics of it?

Got my AVP upgraded in January and very pleased with the sound improvement. Looking to go to the next step by adding two side wall surround speakers and thus go to a 7.1 system.
I've read most movies are in 5.1 and as I'd need to add the speakers, additional amp to drive them, speaker cables and interconnects ..... is it worth it?
Additionally, how does the AVP handle 5.1 movies when playing through a 7.1 system?
I'd be happy to proceed if going to 7.1 will give me a more immersive sound field with 5.1 movies.
All you 7.1 AVP owners could you advise please?

Well, I called them up and they seem to be informed, much more so than the nj guys.

I will upgrade for the sake of audyssey xt32.

I can't wait to crank it up. You just gotta love a properly mastered 7.1 soundtrack.

The inmates are running the asylum.

I am not running for anything but i will have full control of the elevator PINGGGG.

@PLA, -24dB and glass starts moving i wonder what would happen if you would go full reference somehow i think the SO would notice the broken glass when she comes back.

Daniel.

Forgot to mention, planning to use 2 dipole speakers for my new side wall speakers to bring the system up to 7.1, with the idea to introduce an even more immersive sound field than I currently have with my 5.1 system.

I watched this a couple of nights ago and agree. Reference quality. As good as any movie I've heard through my system. Not a bad movie either. Even though this isn't my favorite genre it was a fun watch. I'll probably end up renting it again just for the soundtrack.

I also added height speakers post upgrade and have a 9.2 system. Although I have pretty good front speakers (KEF Reference 205/2s), the addition of height speakers (KEF) made the front stage seem like a huge WALL of sound. Extremely impressive in my setup. SJ

Talking about "huge wall of sound"... I don't know you all, but I discovered Matrix mode which, I think, works extremely well with music-CDs, at least for symphonic music, and I have no idea what the matrix does. Anyone?

Its between DL2 and 5/7/9 stereo mode i guess. It splits the diff to left right signal and also sends it to the sides but with a delay (you can change) it also sends a mixed copy to the center so the the voice/balance is clearly in the front.

I do agree that some mode have changed since the update, for example i noticed in some modes the balanced front/back changed and in surround mode the +5 speakers (back channels) now default seem to be sending the same signal instead of forcing you to pick a mode correct ?

Daniel.

I'm not sure I understood your questions, but I think matrix mode works great. I have only 4 speakers, and it sounds like a stereo mode expanded laterally while retaining the same front speakers balance. What you say it makes sense.

I can't find the delay settings thou, but I'm assuming audyssey takes care of that automatically. I really like it.

Any recommendations on a dealer in San Francisco Bay Area to get the upgrade done, (200 miles radius or so).
thanks

Im i nuts ?

Yesterday i got a shock when i tried my headphones on my avp and nothing.... After almost crying it turned out my headphones broke pffff.

So today i got a new set and picked the shure srh-840 and the world was ok again... Except they are not as loud as my older model so i wondered about that and found out the avp now (or did it always?) applies the channel levels for your normal setup on the headphone out !!. Since i bridge my fronts that means they are at -6 / -7 dB.

If i change them they change for all modes. Why the h** is denon applying these channel offsets on headphones ? And is there anyway to either turn that of or get them to 0dB only for the headphone out ?

Daniel.
^^
Although on the AVR-XX11 and newer models there is now a separate headphone channel level setting, AFAIK, on the AVP it is the same as the front main speaker channel level setting. If not currently using the Quick Selects, you could setup a Quick Select for the source you listen to with the headphones with the front mains set to 0db, although another Quick Select would then also have to be setup with the -6db setting as well.
