You might be better off asking that question in the speakers section.

Amplifier power is frequently misunderstood, it really doesn't take anywhere near 400w to generate a reference 85db SPL in-room. The Klipsch's you mentioned might only need 5w to 10w in a large room. What's likely more important is that the speakers you choose are simply capable of reaching the same SPL you typically listen to as the rest of your system comfortably.

This is a great read on amps and speaker interaction;

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1294455/amplifier-faq

Timber matching has always been a factor for surround sound speaker systems, where staying in the same "family" of speakers was preferred, but I don't know how much of an impact that Audyssey has on that, I'd guess it's not as critical.
I'd certainly want my front three to be matching, and five if you listen to multi-channel music like SACD.

FroM: http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/onkyo-to-deliver-11-4-dts-neo-x-surround-sound-on-latest-receive/
Quote:
Onkyo to deliver 11.4 DTS Neo:X surround sound on latest receivers:

While still a far cry from 64 speakers, Onkyo and DTS teamed up to bring the first 11.4 channel surround sound to your home theater. At the top of the trio of new receivers is the TX-NR5010. It is the only one that's THX certified, but like the TX-NR3010, it can drive 9 speakers and has pre-outs for four subs as well as two more channels. $2999 is the price you'll pay for the best, with a $700 price break when you move one model down the line to the TX-NR3010. Last up, but still shipping in July with 11.4 support, is the TX-NR1010 with its seven channel amp at $1799. DTS Neo:X is the name of the up-mix technology that uses a single algorithm to take anything from a 2.0 signal to 11.1 and converts it to 11.4. The other first here is Cisco Linksys SimpleTap -- also coming to the entire 2012 Onkyo lineup of network receivers via a firmware update -- which promises to deliver a simpler network setup. For more of the juicy details, have a quick look over the press release below.

Wow!?

Equally not impressed with this 11.4 what's the point? How often are you seeing material of 7.1 DTS-MSTR? I'd have to say of all the movies I've seen lately 3-5 out of 100 have been 7.1

Exactly. Don't know why he posted on this thread, I think there still many that don't get it. It's about the audio once you got it right in your room what more do you want. Who cares for 11.4 or whatever.

Just for that shiny new Oinkyo, The Expendables 2 will be the first blu-ray with 11.1 channel DTS Neo:X audio. Time to sell our antiquated AVPs.tongue.gif

I was just wondering what you guys thought about that.

After configuring the input mode to automatic for HDMI (as is required to run DL4) it switches back to Digital when I play audio disks or SACD's. This forces the AVP back into DL3, and the DL4 clock mode will no longer work as the input mode is no longer set to auto. This was fully repeatable with both the DBP A100 and 4010. I realise that DL4 is only for BluRay and that the AVP uses DL3 for all other music, but resetting your menu seletion for you is just plain wrong and a damn nuisance as I have to keep going back into it to reset it to Auto to run DL4 with BluRay discs.
A power down and hard reset did not fix the issue and I have all the latest software updates.
I have submitted it to Denon as a bug as I have never seen menu options changed by the system based upon what was playing or had been setup by the user.

Did you find out the reason it was doing this?
Is your avp upgraded with xt 32?
I use avp and a1ud, and never had the prob;em you are reffering to. It can"t switch from dl4 to dl3 , since dl3 is overriden from dl4.
I have seen a strange behaviour from both units , reverting avp to another input aca dl4 , when i press play button on a1ud while being on another input , say cd xlr that i"m using for a1ud 2ch audio.
So what conclusion have you come up to?

Yes my AVP is upgraded to to XT32 and I have seen the same strange behavior you describe but it does not seem to be easily repeatable.

All I can say is that the my DL3/4 issue is 100% repeatable and a bit of a nuisance. After chatting with Denon engineering/service management at their head office it was submitted as a "bug". However with the AVP looking like it will be discontinued and with the A1, 4010 and A100 all now discontinued together with Denon Link, I very much doubt that there will be a software update...one can only hope . smile.gif

Well if it"s the same that i"m experiencing from time to time , it"s an old bug that probably has to do with hdmi control . Control must be on for dl4 to lock and to have the third led lit on a1ud, 4010.
We will see if there is anything on new fw update.
I"m planing on upgrade my avp within the next two weeks. The order has been given along with a down payment , so i"ll have to wait for the kit to arrive and install it. I"ll post my thoughts as soon as i get it back.

Congratulations jomark911 I'm looking forward in reading your impressions on the upgrade, hopefully you will be very happy as most of us who have done it are. smile.gif

I was going to order the avp along with the a1ud in a few weeks. Bot now my plans seem to get torn apart, there will be no a1ud anymore. They don't announce a new reference player, just two new dbt's and that's it. Makes no sense to me, can anyone give me so more information or hints?

I suppose you can find some units to buy if you really want it. Those units are more of a statement pieces than money makers , so if the sales go down , economy ...... , it is logical to discontinue the production. Also they are running out of some special parts for them.
Try to find some , probably you will and you will have acquired the most wanted pieces of hi end in home theater.

I'd just get the Oppo 105 - I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't out within a month. I'd go to Oppos web site and sign up for early notification. It won't have the Denon link but I'd be stunned if it didn't get some pretty favorable comparisons and for a lot less money.
LOL, I just dropped off my first AVP for the upgrade and I mentioned to him I was a little worried about it because so many people posted on this forum that they had issues with the upgrade. He said nothing to worry about because he had done 20 of them without a single issue. Sure enough he called me a few hours later and said there was an issue. I'm not worried as I'm sure he'll figure it out. I run into that a lot on my job - plenty of times I tell them it will be 5 minutes and 15% of the time I have to say - sorry it will take a little longer than I thought because something you do several times a week doesn't work as it normally does.

Hi All,

Sorry to just jump in here, but I have a chance to get the Denon AVP-A1HDCI with the upgrade installed (3D, XT32, etc...) at a pretty reasonable price ($2,660) and wanted to get some opinions. I currently have the Marantz av7005. If the SQ and video are better I think it might be worth it. Currently have a Parasound Halo A 31 amp, Def Tech STS Supertowers, Mythos nine center, Oppo 95, and the av7005. Probably around 70% TV and HT vs music.

Thank you.

that's not a "pretty reasonable price"...that's a dam cheap price!! especially if it's already been upgraded smile.gif

I'm envious because all the used or refurbs I ever found this year anywhere were >$4K & the 1 poster who just never followed up with a firm offer on a selling price. and none of the ones I ever found had the upgrade.

i'd want to make sure it worked OK but $2600 looks like a bargain to me.

Anyone know if Denon plans to ever sell the AVP-A1HDCI with the XT32 upgrade already done?

As stated, that is way cheap when I just spent $1,100 to have the upgrade. I would jump on it before it is gone, heck, I would buy it just to re-sell for a profit since I already have one and do not plan on changing for several years at best. I had the Marantz AV9000 pre- amp prior to getting the AVP and then recently upgrading it and I am not sorry I have done so.

Yes, I can try it for 30 days. Also, it is a 2 year old floor model with a 4 yr warranty. Thanks.

Not only no (at least in the USA) but also there are a limited number of upgrade kits available which are expected to be gone by year's end.

I think you'd get improved SQ with the XT32 if you use Audyssey, otherwise for predominantly HT it might might be pretty close.

I'd do it because at that price there's not much risk. PM me if you decide to sell either, I have a friend thinking of upgrading an old reciever that may be interested.

The upgrade alone is $999 + TAX so depending on your sales tax it is close to $1100..... So you are getting the AVP (MSRP $7500) for $1500 ya it is a steal. Run don't walk.

Thanks, will do. Yes, I do use Audyssey for both HT and TV. It really seems to help with the dialogue. So..., I'm assuming XT32 would be even better than the current XT.
