Even if it's still more expensive than Audyssey licensing, it could possibly give AVR manufacturers a higher-end alternative for their top models. Pioneer already uses their own in-house MCAAC which seems to get pretty positive reviews.

Has anyone compared Room Perfect to Audyssey?

McIntosh is using this in a multi-channel prepro? Wow, the Room Perfect stereo unit must be around 4000 Euros already. A multi-channel system must be very expensive.

I never had the chance to compare other system with Audyssey except YPAO, but this is a long time ago and at this point of time it was not so convincing. I also read about Trinnov but this is also quite expensive.

Yes, they use it in a multichannel prepro: McIntosh MX150.

Thank you for the link gsr. This is truly interesting and I can see the AVP follow-up here. Oh stop. this unit is 'old' and doesn't have the features of an AVP. This is really disappointing and means for me, that the AVP is still a truly outstanding unit, despite Room Perfect. It doesn't have Neo:X and the first disks of Neo:X are already available.

If I pay this much money, I expect that a prepro has everything up to date. Even it may sound excellent, a unit, I buy today, should cope with all actual formats. I have to say, the AVP is for me, such a good unit only because I can not put a 11.1 speaker setup in my room and 9.1 is the only thing, I can do.

PS: McIntosh is also part of D&M

McIntosh is now part of Fine Sounds, who also own Sonus Faber, Audio Research and Wadia. This is a better fit for Mac.

Hi all,

It was suggested that I might cross post my question here. From the AVR-5308 thread:

----
I'm really late to this upgrade party.

Does anyone know if these are still available? And if so, what's the best way to go about getting this done?

I checked on Denon's site but it's saying there are no upgrades for my model/serial.

I have the AVR-5308ACI bought 6/2009.

I called my local authorized service center and got the "I don't know what you're talking about" bit. They're the only one in 100 miles. The closest regional super service center is in Syracuse, NY, but they were unfamiliar, too.

I can't seem to reach Panurgy OEM in NJ and Denon is closed today for the holiday. I think I may have to start ringing Electronic Express in Chicago, unless someone has a better suggestion for me.

Thanks again.
---

Any help is appreciated.

I wish you good luck, because the upgrade option has vanished from the Denon US web-site as well as from the German Denon web-site. Also the AVP and AVC are gone completely.
I made my upgrade in January but ordered the kit itself already before Christmas, when I read in this thread some pages before that the upgrade kit for the US is sold out or no longer available.

As said, I wish you good luck!

I checked with Denon and the AVP and 5308CI 3D/XT32 Upgrade kits are in very short supply with estimated inventory depletion to be sometime in March so if you've been on the fence until now, better hurry before it is too late. Once the kits are gone .... that's it. eek.gif

Anyone in the Bay Area know where you can get the upgrade? I think it is time to pull the trigger.

Separate question, thinking of upgrading my amp. Currently connecting the AVP to ATI 1505 to drive my Dynaudio's. Have Focus 220 MKII and 200c in the front and Audience 42's for surrounds. Would appreciate any thoughts on what you think might be a better amp or what is the amp your using and what speakers are you driving with your amp.

Thanks

I had looked at the Denon website and called them before posting here and they said they do not do this upgrade. The person seemed very disinterested so maybe I should call back and see if someone else has a better idea. In the end though, who in the Bay Area or California have had their AVP upgraded and where did you get it done?

Thanks

Called them and they said they can do the upgrade but they are shutting down. They expect to be closed by the end of the month. Were you happy with the upgrade through them? Did you order the kit through Denon or Media Associates?

They will have to order the kit from Denon which takes a couple of weeks so unless they have it on-hand or can get their hands on it in a day or two, they are not going to be able to help you. Also, do you really want to leave your baby with a company that is closing up next week?eek.gif

Decided to get the upgrade done down in LA by Denon's Super Service Center. Agree, probably best not to have it upgraded by someone that is going out of business. Pretty sad that the Bay Area has no Denon service centers now as R&B is also no longer a service center...

I had mine done here too. They were straight up guys.

If you click on their link you will get a kick out of whats playing on the TV for their logo. Not sure if its coincidence or intended.

Smart. The repair center also gives you a 90 day warranty on the upgrade so you probably would have been SOL for warranty if that other place somehow managed to even do the upgrade for you next week.

I can believe this non-interest in the upgrade, because my repair shop told me that they don't earn anything from this upgrade and it takes quite a long time - programming the other parts, which can not be updated via firmware updates.

However, it is a very good idea to do the upgarde, because the A1 units will last longer and if you are thinking about selling it, it will increase the value.

Over here in Australia they got paid for it. If they didn't they wouldn't of bothered with my unit.

Does the 3D Upgrade improve on the range/number of crossovers you can manually apply to speakers within the AVP ?

Last longer in what sense?

By having more up to date functionality, such as 3D passthrough and height / width channels it's got just about all the most current features, so there won't be a need to replace it with something else to add those features.
I read it in the sense that it would be more "current" feature wise for resale.
