I agree that it is painful when any tech I buy becomes obsolete but other than an anvil, just about any tech I get will be obsolete sooner or later. My TV is old and I'm ready for a replacement but I won't be buying until a bar is passed. A TV larger than 70" , 4K, OLED and Hdmi 2.0 meets that new bar. Eventually 8K will be a standard and probably a new ultraoled tech etc will replace whatever I buy next. As long as I get 8 years out of it, I'll be happy. I expect about 7-10 years on my prepros and about 2 years on my media players. Amps should be good for about 15 -20 years and likewise with my speakers. Pretty much everything is obsolete within a year of being on the market, it's just a matter of deciding if the gap between features is enough to say it is too obsolete for your individual needs. My TV is already too obsolete even though there really isn't what I want available at a reasonable price to replace it. So I wait for prices to come down and larger TVs to become more common.
