Best LCD with little to no input lag (under $1300)

Hi I am new here (if you can't tell by my post count). I currently have a Samsung 23' 2354H for my dorm room that I game on. At first I thought I wasnt a victim of input lag. But once I went back home and started playing my Wii on my 480i Sony SDTV, I noticed how quickly my button movements responded on the TV. Now I play Smash Bros Brawl online alot and the issue is definitely evident although I have somewhat gotten used to it. I was curious if you kind people could help me on a TV that has little to no input lag. I sortof wanted it for my dorm room but I don't mind if its big. I also like to watch movies but I understand I cant have my cake and eat it too but is there a TV that is perfect for gaming and still doesn't lack in the High Def TV/Blu Ray department?

Most Plasma sets have zero input lag, but I don't think that you could fit one in a dorm room so that is out of the question. You could get a 20 inch CRT just for the gaming that requires fast input.

Some of the LCD people might also have some ways to minimize the lag as well.

LCD image delay vs. CRT at Digitalversus.com

Iiyama ProLite E2201W - 0 ms
Acer P223W - 0 ms
Iiyama ProLite E2403WS -1ms
Viewsonic VG2230wm - 1ms
Samsung 226BW - 1ms
The Viewsonic vx922 (discontinued) - 2ms

Unfortunately all are 22-24 inch TN monitors known for bad viewing angles so its a tradeoff.

the thing is I dont want to go back to having a CRT in my room because I watch alot of football. Im pretty hardcore btw and I cant go back to lowdef football games. Which is why Im hoping theres an LCD that can really minimize this problem because its definitely there.

Btw, is it true that Plasmas display 480p better than LCD? Because I play my Wii more than any system especially now that I just got Brawl. Thanks for the help by the way

I was talking about just getting a CRT for the games that need zero lag, keep the LCD for HD content.

And yes, plasma in general does better with 480 images than LCD. (I can play youtube quality vids fullscreen on my plasma and it still looks pretty good) But Plasma is currently limited to the 42inch range (a few 32inch plasma sets are coming but they will be pricey for their size) and that might be too big for a dorm room.

You might want to have a look at theSharp Aquos LC32GP1U 32" 1080p LCD Gaming HDTV.

The input lag is from the game, trust me. Even on my CRT I have lag when I play online. Is the lag there when you do LOCAL brawls (IE NO ONLINE)? If so then your tv might be the problem, but trust me, almost every online fight I've done has had quite a bit of lag.

You're talking about connection lag. Image delay is something differnt - see the above link??

Im not speaking of lag when online. Im talking about when I hit a button, the reaction on the screen isnt as responsive as when Im hitting the button. I noticed it when I went home for spring break and I played Smash Bros Melee and Ninja Gaiden (NES). At first I was confused as to why the game was reacting so quickly. I even died several times and Ive beaten Gaiden without dying on that particular level. Thats when I remembered about Input lag and HDT's. My friend has a Sony KDL and he was telling me how hes not as good in Call of Duty anymore. This problem really does suck especially considering the prices for High Definition TV's. I'm tempted to due away with this samsung and jus get a basic CRT again but I absoloutely CAN NOT watch football in Non HD.

So there really isnt a LCD TV with no lag? Will this forever be an issue? I find that extremely strange. I will say though that had I not gone home and played on my CRT I probably wouldnt be posting this now as I guess I was just so used to it I didnt notice. But now that I played it I wanna go bac!

Is this true? Plasmas have zero input lag?

If so, why are LCDs so bad for this?

Is no one certain about the claim on plasmas having 0 input lag?

From what I have read on here, most plasma sets when calibrated with a guitar hero calibration tool get under 5ms lag at the worst. Most LCD sets get between 25ms and 40ms lag. I haven't done the test myself (don't play GH) but from what others have said it comes out to a very low number on a plasma. (I think my set has a 2-4 ms lag with a DVD player over s-video that I also have hooked to a old SD CRT, (the CRT is a hair faster with both the video and audio when both are played side by side) the HD inputs seem to be better for lag than the SD inputs which have to use extra processing to display the image.

This is the main reason why I think I'm going to hold out for the JVC 52X899.

I've been trying to find a no input lag solution for a few months, and can assure you plasmas suffer the same problems as LCD's. People usually mention times in the 20-30ms range with game mode enabled, or any processing off.

Widescreen computer monitors as mentioned above are a good solution, but they are 16:10 and not 16:9, and most of these wont keep the correct aspect ratio and will distort your image, otherwise i'd be using my samsung 226bw for my 360.

Unfortunately it seems to be only hardcore gamers that notice this, and most people game away unaware that the reason they suck in COD4 is because of their TV.
