I don't think using a PS3 would be a fair comparison. (My samsung is with my 52" which is at the condo in fremont and I only go there 2 times a week whereas my LG is with my 32" in san jose)

Tested Spiderman 3, I didnt see anything out of the normal. The menus navigated normally, even when selecting items.

Bee MOvie: This loaded a little slower then normal, and began with a black Screen, after a fwe seconds it loaded without issue and I was able to navigate the menus no problem.....
Why then will it not work on my system - and since the 1.3 firmware update-no loading for other movies as well - what do I need to do? THis is really frustrating! Bee Movie does not load on my system. I get the error code 0x000000ff. Does this mean anything? Can we reset this system to get it to work - and reinstall 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and then reinstall 1.3? PS3 is looking more and more attractive!

Generally this error code deals with an inability to read or decode - but it may mean something different with this player. Any thoughts?

Dear Ph8te: I tried re-installing the firmware update - now on the third time. No deal. Will try again. I'll let you know if it works. Consequently, Bee Movie is not the only one it will not load - so far - no load for Ice Age and Ratatouille. They used to load on the 1.2 firmware update. Do you know if you could re-install the prior firmwares to attempt to correct the issue? Downflash-so to speak- to a prior firmware (one that was stable on my system)?
Tried reinstalling the firmware 1.3 over 5 times now and still no deal. Bee Movie does not load, Ice Age does not load and others...I am going thru my collection (now worthless until I get the PS3) and will update what other movies do not work. This system is garbage. Until it is stable - it is a waste of time and money. Could have saved hundreds of dollars if I would have bought the PS3! Extremely frustrated and Samsung offers no support (except script readers from Pakistan or the Phillipines)!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

THanks,

JET

Might be the player itself.....YOu can try to reinstall 1.3 over 1.3 by using a CD for firmware update...

Tried reinstalling 1.3 several times and it did not work. 1.2 played all the prior movies, so why would it be the player. Ratatouille and Ice Age worked prior to the 1.3 update. Still frustrated.

Does anyone know where I can get firmware 1.1?

Thanks for moving the discussion over here, Jet. It does sound like you have a player that was compromised in some way. I'll let you know if Ratatouille loads over here. I'm sure someone here saved the older firmwares but 1.1 ended up breaking the network feature of the 5000 and is supposedly identical to 1.2 in every other way.

I have to agree, either there is something we are missing, or the player needs to be repaired......

I am going to try a dvd lens cleaner and see if it fixes the problem. If it works all around, don't see why it shouldn't with mine. If the lens cleaner does not fix it, will call samsung to send it in and get it fixed.

Thanks for your help. Will keep you posted.

BD Rambo (the new one that takes place in Burma):

I heard quite a few dropouts at various points during the film when using spdif output and "Audiophile" mode. "Most" of these dropouts were completely repeatable, but I did hear a couple that did not happen when I backed up and re-played the same section. If anyone wants to test this, I found a spot with two dropouts in close succession:

Chapter 2 at 8:17, and then at 8:25.

The two dropouts were repeatable for me, but they ONLY happened when in Audiophile mode. When I switched to Re-encode mode, they no longer happened.

I also saw some strange visual oddities at one point:

Chapter 8, from 43:52 to 44:13. As the team walks up the hill to the cave, and then through the cave, the motion on some shots stutters, as if there is a pattern of missing frames in these shots. The movement of characters across the screen is not smooth -- it has little "jumps" in the movement at regular intervals. This only seems to happen on certain shots in this scene, and I did not notice it in any other scene. As soon as we cut from the cave to the plants in the water, the issue stops.

Also, I noticed some glitches with the bonus view feature. While it was on, when I would pull up the menu to change chapters, the words "Chapter Selection," as well as the little chapter stills, were missing. If I navigated around a bit the text and stills would return.

Vinnie: Is the list now back up to date (as much as it can be) following firmware 1.3? Thanks.

I think so...but I won't admit to that with 100% certainty.

BTW, thanks Larry!

Hi,

I haven't watched it all the way through, so maybe I should do that first, but I just wanted to report that my Clerks2 plays through 1:04:44.

Something weird does happen at that point though. The counter stops counting, but the video and audio continue fine without any hiccups. The counter then continues around 1:04:48, so it's like the counter hangs for 4 seconds.

The other interesting thing is that the player get's louder at that point (by louder, I mean physical drive noise - is it switching to a different layer?)

And the increase in volume of the drive occurs whether you let the machine play through that point in time, or if you just chapter skip past the time.

If i recall, there was a chapter stop around 1:02, and the next chaper is around 1:08. If I cue up the one at 1:02, it's pretty quiet, and if I skip to the next chapter, I can hear the drive is louder.

Do this happen for other people, or just me?

Stpat,

the reason itson the list is becasue it happens to more than 1 user. The Clerks 2 issue is a carry over from earlier firmwares that was never fixed. While you may not always see the black screen, the unit "pauses" at the mentioned time point then continues on normally. THis is the only point in the movie that this occurs so no worries about the rest of the movie.......

Hi,

Yes, I was just pointing out that my screen doesn't go black as reported, and the only thing that pauses for me is the counter... the video and audio continue to play fine through that point.

I just thought it was interesting.

Ph8te, I only remember you reporting this ...I might have to take it off, could be down to disc authoring or player differences.

Actually it was another user who reported it I only verified it.......There is definately a problem with it though that is repeatable....I do know that the error doesnt happen the same way all the time though. Sometimes there is no black screen, sometimes there is, just a luck of the draw....

Yup...I wonder if the error exists on other hardware (the BH200 has been known to hiccup on it as well). I wonder how Toshiba hardware handles it. Maybe it's time to break down and buy the thing to test.

LOL.....I would rent this one if you are not a fan of the type of comedy.....I watched it on the Add-On with no glitches that I can remember....

Well, who still rents HD DVDs? lol I guess Netflix and Blockbuster Online but I don't have accounts with either. With the current deal at DeepDiscount, the effective price is down to $6.40. It's tempting but I'm not a big fan of Kevin Smith nor his brand of trashy humor.

Could be...

Upgraded this weekend and SEMI PRO played flawlessly....

Also, this version fixes the HD-DVD import version of FANTASTIC FOUR: SILVER SURFER disc... Have never been able to get it to play in ANY player.... Niether the A1 or the 5000 would play more than 5 minutes before freezing up....

Plays fine now!

I figured out why Semi Pro was not playing on my player. I rented this movie again today and had the same problem movie will not play. It was freezing during the disc menu. I would hit play and nothing the movie just stayed and did nothing. I hit the disc menu button again and WOOP their it is the movie started playing without any problems. Little weird none of my other blu rays have this problem.
