If I just select the play movie option it works fine. If I go to the audio options screen. When I try to play the featurette in the extras section (I thinks its SD resolution) the picture is "super" zoomed. It appears to be much more than the usual bug of 4x3 material is strectched to fit a 16:9 area. I would estimate about 25% or less of the actual image area of the featurette is blown up to fill the entire 16x9 display. I saw this on 3 different BD-UP5000 players all with 1.3 firmware. The disc played fine on a 40 GB PS3. anyone else see something similar?
I just received The Hunt for Red October & Sum of All Fears, like you the movie plays fine if I go directly from the Menu > Play.
Here's where my issue differs, ... accessing any other menu option, i.e. Settings, Language or Special Features just locks up my BD-UP5000! After a few minutes of blank screen, I can only use two buttons on my remote, either the Power On/Off or Open/Close buttons.
I emailed Samsung Customer Service, and depending on what they say, I'll either send these Blu-ray discs or my BD-UP5000 back (still within my 30-day return period)!?!?
Blu-ray discs with absolutely no problems:
(Updated to latest Firmware via Internet 1st day I received my BD-UP5000 July 15, 2008)
1) Stargate: Continuum
2) I, Robot
4) The Bridge of Terabithia
5) The Legend of Zorro
6) Digital Video Essentials Basic
7) The Fifth Element
Blu-ray discs w/1 minor problem:
8) ID-4 - Movie, Settings & Special Features all work - LOCKS when selecting any
scene from the Scene's menu & only the Power On/Off button on the remote works.
