I just recently got my TV set up and I noticed it has the 2002.2 firmware. Who else has this version and what settings have you found to be good for gaming?

Thanks. Have you decided if you're going to have it done or not? It should be free right since I just bought the TV 21 days ago. All I have to do is call Samsung? How quickly can they get here? I ask because I move back to campus next sunday so I would like it to happen before then.

Can anyone elaborate on motion blur? I really don't think now my eyes are playing tricks. Its like whenever things move its slightly blurry I believe. Hmm....I'd really hate to have to send this TV back all the way to *******

I just bought an LN32A650, my first HDTV, and I love it. I use it with over-the-air and with my computer (as DVD player and, soon, as a PVR).

I have a couple questions.

First, my firmware appears to be 2000.4... That is, the Info screen says:
"MODULE : T-AMB32AUSC-2000.4, DATE : PANEL : 32A 1 , MICOM : T-AMBAUSM-1002
RFS : T-AMB32AUSC-200802, 2008-04-04"

Am I correct in thinking that its 2000.4? Now, there don't seem to be any firmware downloads available on the Samsung site for the 32 inch model. Are the firmware updates model-specific, or do the recent fixes only apply to the features in the bigger models, like 120Hz?

Second, I've noticed that my computer display absolutely sucks on the TV using DVI/HDMI, and that the TV overscans the image, even though the resolution sent is 1:1. It's perfect over VGA, but I'd like to eventually be able to watch Blu-Ray via my computer, and that would require a digital link. Why is this happening, and is there any solution? The overscan can be fixed by switching to "Just Scan" mode, but the text is still blurry and the colors are still off somehow.

Thanks!

Samsung replaced my bezel. But what was required was to just tighten a few screws. But, you cannot do it yourself. (You will have to open the rear cover). So many people have this issue. Hmm.. Can't Samsung goes this basic thing right in the assembly line???

"motion blur whenever things move" , I think I experince this as well but so far only on olympic channel but I have been playing around w/ settings and things seem bit better but I cannot for sure... at this point. I will have to watch football game or something.. not from overseas.. I am not sure if this matters or not. ??

Please, send it back already!!

Do you know how to use the search function? The question is asked almost every day. Motion blur is going to be most evident on cable channels. Again, try searching.

Hey guys, I've finally settled on a LN46A650. My HDTV saga started with a Sony 46W4100, which was returned for massive sparkle problems. Second TV was a Toshiba 52XF550, which was returned due to general color problems and terrible clouding.

This weekend I picked up a 46A650 from my local Fry's. I know we can't post prices, but I'll just say that Fry's is running a promotion that makes this TV about $100 less than what's on the Big River, and it includes a free wall mount! I don't even want the wall mount, and hope to sell it to offset even more of the cost. An awesome deal all around.

Wanted to also point out that I got an extremely fresh TV. So fresh that the manufacture date is August 2008 (yes this month!!!). My version is "SS04", and the firmware that came on this set is 2003.0, which isn't even listed on the Samsung website. Awesome!!!

I am loving my TV, and I couldn't be happier right now. Haven't done any of the posted calibration changes, because to me the "standard" set looks great, I just adjusted the backlight down a bit. I love my TV!!

Make sure edge enhancement is off and sharpness is at zero. Your text might still look wacky and have colored edges (i think if you turn off subpixel antialiasing, "cleartype" i think it's called, this should go away).
Alternatively, you can plug your PC into HDMI2, and name the input "PC". That should bypass all the processing and just show what the computer's sending out. Unfortunately, you can't use AMP or feed the TV 24hz input in that mode.

Hi,

I am having a problem with my LN40A650, but only under very certain circumstances.

It seems to flicker like one of the backlighting lamps is going out. IE the picture gets darker all around for about .5-2 full seconds.

The weird thing is it only happens when I am watching the sopranos on DVD.

I have a JVC (POS) DVD player connected by RCA cables.

It never flickers at the same spot in the movie (so it isnt the DVD). And it doesnt ever happen when watching other programs. (like Batman for example).

It also never happens when watching TV via Cable/HDMI in hi-def.

Thank you so much for your help!

I am using Gmo0ve's settings. I find that it agrees with all of my high def channels (news, movie channels, television shows, etc.) in terms of skin tone, and overall picture. All the other settings that I have tried (Zerog, Cnet, etc.) give skin and hair an unnatural look. Since I don't have the luxury of changing the settings for every channel or source that I use, I decided to go with the one that best fits the source I use most, my cablebox.

The firmware I am using is 2002.2. This is what came with my set out of the box. So when everyone was saying that 2001.3 was the latest I was kind of confused until someone clarified it for me.

Hi, i am trying to hook up my 46' to the wall, but the manual only says m8 for the screws. How deep does that goes? Any feedback will be very appreciated!! Thanks!

I bought my 46a650 early August and I also have 2002.2. I have cnet settings and I'm satisfied with it.

Can you clarify it for me? lol

nvm did some reading

but neways... is the purple haze thing still an issue with recent sets? i did the test and i THINK i see purple.. if i do its an extremely low tint of purple... or it could just be lighter black and im paranoid

For all you 650 owners - Im trying to decide between the 650 and 630 (52inch). It will be perpendicular to a large 8ft window. I love the "pop" the 650 has, but afraid the glare might be too much, which leaves the 630. I might put solar shades up (because i dont want to block all light as this is my only natural light source) - but this still wont block all glare.

Just curious what some of your opinions are with glare and the ultraclear glass panel. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I don't know if anyone has seen the A630 yet, so there are quite a few of us that would like to know.

I assume it will very similar.

Thanks for posting this oo7jeep,

I'm having the exact same problem with my new LN46A650. Similar to your situation, I've been using an old Toshiba DVD player with a composite connection. I've noticed the blinking only happens on certain DVD's and doesn't always appear at the same place on the DVD.

I should be able to hook up my 360 to the composite input in the next day or two and see what the results are. I'll also hook up the Xbox to the VGA and component inputs and let you know if the flicker disappears.

I'm hoping the flicker is just the result of using an old DVD player over a poor connection.

Has anyone else experienced this? Possible fixes?

The A630 has a matte screen, whereas the 650 has a glossy screen. I have an A650 perpendicular to a glass patio door, and the vertical blinds do a good enough job preventing glare. However, the sun never comes directly through my window at the TV anyway, so you'll want to take that into consideration as well.

Why are you always so rude to people? I've never thought of AVSforums of having people with such rude attitudes and this is the first time I'm experiencing this. Not just me but from other people posting things in this topic as well, you give them the same rude comments. The question is asked almost everyday, I'm sorry. But yet, you're the ONLY ONE who has to take the initiative and come across as an *** . Not everyone can read 500 pages of material. I read the first 150 and all it was about was the resetting issue.

I feel like I'm on another forum because this type of behavior is the last thing I would expect from avsforums. Its like if someone asks a question that was already mentioned it affects your life. Just calm down a bit man alot of us are new here and felt comfortable posting our questions. Now we're hesitant to because of the sarcastic remarks that are coming from you, which I really didn't expect from AVSforums.

I like my new 46A650 very much, except for one thing.

Using the TV Speakers and the stereo Audio Out Jacks at the same time produces an unpleasant echo effect.

Apparently the TV speakers and the Audio Out jacks are not well synched. (I tested this by hooking a pair of headphones directly to the the Audio Out Jacks.)

Does anyone know a way around this? Or is the solution just not to use them both at the same time?

I have one of the A630 sets in my entertainment center, and have "lived" with it for a couple of days now.
FYI - CC dropped their prices on these models this past sunday, although theyre still not showing stock of the 52".

Perp. to the tv on the left wall, I have a large window and also a glass door to the patio. I also have a lamp (which is normally ON during the evening hours) directly in front of the tv.

I tried the 650... and found the reflection ( i am going to try and stay away from using the g word) was too much for me with the lamp. The window and blinds had very visible reflections when i was at such an acute angle as to see them, but i could not see any direct effect from the windows on the tv.

The 630 has much less reflection of the lamp (its very diffused, but still is there...but not as noticeable.)
One thing that struck me is that the windows and blinds were still visible (but again less so). But again, i want to say, that I had to be at such an acute angle that i wouldnt normally be sitting at to see this at all. Like someone said at some time on this forum, if you are going to look for it, you will find it...

In store, the 630 was to my eyes, better than the 550 and the 530, and appeared to be similar to the 650.
In my home, i have not been able to see a noticeable difference in PQ between the two, when watching SD and QAM HD cable channels (with no cable box). I did find that i had to turn the AMP off to watch SD channels on both the 650 and the 630

Hi fellas.

I'm new to the forum but have been into LCD Falt Panels for awhile.

I have a 46" Sharp Aquos 1080p and a 46" SAMSUNG 1080p 750 series.

I had a question on the SAMSUNG 750 series.

I upgraded the standard 1004 firmware the TV came with to a 1009 firmware.

It looks like the Automotion Plus 120Hz feature was modified. I can instantly tell that the Low, Med, High has been altered because of so many people complaining about how the AMP makes films look like documentaries and move too fast. The DEFAULT setting the TV initially came with was always on LOW. Once I upgraded the firmware, the default was set to MED.

Movies actually look GREAT now WITH the AMP on to LOW. It's the perfect balance as it doesn't make movies look like documentaries but still utilizing the AMP to make images sharper.

The sound has seemed to get a lil better as well.

MY QUESTION however, is that when I turn on and off the TV, it makes that sound correct? After I upgraded the firmware, it seems like the volume of that on and off sound has been drastically lowered. I actually like to hear that sound everytime I turn on and off my TV, but now its barely audible. Is there a way to increase the volume JUST for those specific sounds? I checked the Menu everywhere. Could not find it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. - This SAMSUNG TV is the BEST I've EVER seen and encountered.
I am pretty sure there is a setting in the menu that you can adjust the sound. I remember you can set it where it turns off.
do u know exactly where it is? I thought i saw it too, but after I upgraded the firmware, I dont see it anywhere.
Under melody, I believe you can adjust it to off or various volume levels. I dont have a samsung anymore but I remember that was the first thing I turned off because I hated hearing it everytime I turned on the tv.

I recently finished reading this entire thread (minus the 10 days lost by the forum). A real page turner. For those of you new to this thread, I recommend it; you'll learn a lot.

Now I realize that most of you have lives and don't really have the time to wade through all 500 pages, so I'll tell you the secret for how to get through it quickly. First, just take the thread and remove the posts with any of the following words:

amazon
best buy
circuit city
river
CEVA
price
coupon
trigger (as in "just pulled the")
bezel

This will pare it down by about a third cuz the moderator really doesn't check too closely. You really don't want to read everyone's shopping, buying, delivery, and price match stories and bezel commentary. Lord knows nobody wanted to hear them the first time.

Then eliminate posts with the words

purple
off-axis
cloud
flashlight
Stiles
uniformity
also any post with pictures of blank screens

Warning: you really, REALLY want to avoid reading any of these posts; they're quite dangerous. This will probably take out another third. Some of these poor soles had real problems, but most of them just have various mental disorders: delusion, OCD, hypocondria, even Munchhausen. Its mostly a mother thing.

Oh, and if you're looking for enablers, this is the place to come. I don't care what your problem is, you'll find someone here that will encourage you to return your set. It's silly to even ask; just go ahead and return it. That's what you want to hear anyway. These people are the reason your TVs cost so much and why customer service people are so surly.

Delete all posts asking and explaining why the info screen never shows 120 Hz or how to find the firmware release number. These questions average about once a day because they hadn't yet learned the secrets I'm giving you now.

Then toss every post about resets: a tragic time in the 650's early history. You'll learn all you really need to know about it by reading post #1.

What you'll have left is mostly comparisons of the 650 with various other Samsung models, analysis of game lag, and a debate over whether AMP cures cancer or is devil spawn (there doesn't seem to be much ground in between). Learn from it, but don't for a minute trust any of it.

Or, you could just read the last week or so of posts. It's all just the same ...er... enlightning material over and over anyway.

Oh wait, I almost forgot. For those of you who are married or have a girlfriend nearby ... When you come to the posts that say "such-and-such is so obvious, even my wife noticed it", read it out loud. They'll really enjoy it!! No really, trust me.

I completely agree. I got my TV delivered a week faster, I paid 30% less than at my local brick and mortar, I avoided a serious scam website, I got my TV delivered for free and I had a great online buying experience - all because of what I learned here, but why should anyone else learn those secrets.

I am trying to make a final decision on my first HDTV purchase. I am still going back and forth between a Samsung 6 or 7 series LCD or a 1080P panny plasma. I love the 46" TOC Samsung LCDs for styling and incredible PQ but I know I could buy a 50" 1080p panny plasma for the same price if not cheaper. Was anyone here in a similar situation as far as that final decision between LCD and plasma?

Well, the Panny doesn't do the motion interpolation thing, if that matters to you, and doesn't handle 24fps correctly, which was the deal-breaker to me, since I use my TV to mostly watch blu-rays. Once you start noticing 2:3 judder, its hard to un-notice it.

For years I always wanted to go Plasma for the deep black levels, but heard LCDs had come a long way over the last year or two.

I went to Best Buy and compare the sets, and no matter which one I looked at... my eye kept going toward the Samsung A650. My choice was made and I love this set.
