I was also worried about the newness of my TV solely because of the fact that there was no sticker on the frame, yet there were some glue/sticker smudges indicating there had been one. The accessories were all new though, newest firmware, no purple haze, no dead/stuck pixels, and no clouding so I'm extremely happy..I was just worried at first.

With that in mind, does anyone know of a safe way to remove that glue/sticker residue from the frame without damaging it? I'm OCD (not really..) and it's driving me crazy.

Welcome to the forum.

What you are experiencing with AMP on is what is often called in this thread the "Soap Opera Effect". You are not seeing sped up video, you are seeing the same video at a higher frequency rate with interpolation (extra frames).

Judder, OTOH, is the appearance of pans and zooms on 24fps material looking choppy. AMP smooths out the choppiness, but, as mentioned, also changes the impression the image creates. Some say this causes film to like "live video" or a soap opera, but I guess to you it looks like its sped up like a Tool video.

I don't agree with the guy who suggested that would help with motion blur. I have tested that a lot and don't see any difference other than what its meant for - removing noise. I know it sucks but its really just a problem with the cable companies compression.

I agree, I used to use this (DNR) on low because of noise on some channels. However, once I properly calibrated my 46A650 the set was very forgiving on SD material....just like my 51" Hitachi RP CRT. Then I realized that DNR was causing smearing in scenes with grass (baseball/football/soccer fields) and "blocking" at times of extreme action.

Like I said,(once calibrated) I used the Cnet settings then my Avia disc which changed some color, brightness and other things.....now I do not need DNR and it looks fantastic!!

Whenever you have to use "fake" enhancements there is ALWAYS going to be some type of negative that offsets the negative...

Proper calibration will (most times) resolve problems unless the picture source is real bad that nothing can be done.

Thanks Daver. Is there a way to still use AMP without this effect? I just don't know how anyone could watch TV/Movies like this.

A little OT, I am looking forward to RB2 also, what a great game.

No... AMP off is 120Hz with duplicated in-between frames and you will probably see "judder"/choppiness. AMP on is 120Hz with interpolated extra frames, smoothing out the choppiness... but causing it to look less like film and more like video.

Some people like AMP, some can't stand it. Maybe try setting it to low for a while to see if you get used to it?

btw, AVS has HT video game forums with pretty active RockBand threads... pop in sometime.

The Angels uniforms looked more pink than they did red. I really like the sports setting because it really brings out the white in the uniform, but the pink uniform sort of kills that. When I chose one of the entertainment settings it locks me out of adjusting any of the color settings, correct? I guess my question would be is there anyway I can get a bright picture without the red being washed out a bit? Thanks in advance.

Anybody?

Testing my set's display resolution and scan rates with various materials:
Directv hd: 1920X1080i @60
Blu-ray 1080p: 1920X1080 @24
Blu-ray 720p: 1280X720 @60

1. Now why am I not able to get 120hz from any of these?
2. Why does the set not display a P after the 1080 when in progressive?
am I really getting p or not?
3. Seems really strange that this thing is scanning at 24hz at all!

I've had my LN52A650 for three weeks now. It's wonderful!

But on two out of about 200 occasions when I've powered up the set, there's no audio on the HD channels (supplied from my cable box via component cables). The sound on the analog channels work fine. I power cycle the set (leaving the cable box on) and HD audio then works fine. I can live with this problem as it only seems to happen about 1% of the time. But I don't want a lemon and I don't want this problem to magnify or another to start rearing its ugly head after warranty or after I can no longer easily return the set.

The technician came out and said he wants to replace the main board. Should I let him and chance creating a greater problem? Are the settings on the main board calibrated to the individual display panel characteristics at the factory? Do I risk his mucking these or something else up? What would you do? Thank you.

1) The TV is always 120Hz. Those are the rates of your input signals.
2) If there's no i it's progressive
3) It's not. See point #1.

1. Because there is no 120Hz input! What you see if the input from the source but the panel will always run at 120Hz.

2. You set your blu-ray player to 24Hz so that is what you see.

3. Look at 2!

The TV is always scanning at 120hz. It is the source that is scanning at 60/24 hz.

I came for the same reason you did and stayed for the same reason. Now that I've made my purchase, if I could filter out all price talk, without missing any tech talk, I probably would. The price does nothing but drop below what I paid - something I knew would occur, but still isn't all that fun to watch. However, I wanted the price/supplier talk when I first was researching, and I wouldn't deprive anyone else of that info. If someone asks, I'll answer if I can.

The display is showing the input -- the set conforms them all to 120hz at 1080p.

24hz is matching frames-per-second for movies... for HD movies this means no pull-down, which is a good thing.

EDIT: sorry I missed the other replies.

does anyone else think AMP actually makes movement look worse? it's hard for me to say it's an improvement when the image looks "jumpy" and has artifacts.

So while cleaning my 52A650 today i noticed on the very center top area of the screen their is an area which looks to be like glue (on the area right between the frame and the screen itself) this was not here before but now all the sudden it is... thoughts?

That's not what their website states. Wouldn't make me choose them over Big River anyway.

I have the 46" model, and I think I have a sound glitch problem. This only happens with PS3, connected to HDMI port. While playing, the sound would glitch out and turn to mute. I have to restart the tv to get the sound back on. Is this a common problem? I have updated to the latest firmware already.

This doesn't happen everytime, but could happen at anytime. It has happened about 4-5 times already. The tv is about 1 month old.

Thanks!

I think it helps with motion blur and makes the picture a little sharper, but not worth the "jumpy" feel. I think with Blu-Ray set to display @24, AMP is a big no no.

Friend of mine had that same problem with the A550.

Got a 40A650 on Monday, great picture quality on OTA HD, 480p, waiting for my BlueRay player.
But I can hear the FAN on the TV, will this go away?
An issue that haven't been mentioned in a while in this thread. Reason to return it, or can I "fix" it somehow?

Don't know the version or production date.

I am looking at getting a Samsung and I am wondering about the 60/120 htz. At the present I have a Sony 42 in KDF-EA42A10. It is only 720p but does a great job. I have never seen any motion blur at all. I play PS3 games, watch NASCAR, all sports and no blur. Have been glued to the Olympics and no blur. I have BluRay and reg DVD and no blur. If I do not see any blur on my present Sony, do I need 120 on the Samsung 46 in?

So the A650 is the Best LCD out now?
probably Dubz4lif3, i have a 52" A650 and the PQ is AMAZING, i mean its simply stunning, man im telling u when watching a movie on this beast with my onkyo 7.1 surround system its better than going to the cinema, it blows u away,

oh and btw , AUTO Motion Plus is where its at man, it makes the Picture unbeliveably real, whether u set it on low/med/high, its upto u but that feature is one heck of a feature i have NEVER seen on any other TV, in my opinion , Samsung's AMP is the best frame interpolation system out there, because as u know sony has it's also.

I also got a fresh a650 from Big river , my a650 was built in July and it came with the 2002.2 firmware. anyway u can NOT go wrong with this TV.

the reason why i didnt buy the A750 instead is because i dont want to pay extra for a plastic frame lol, everyone says the PQ is exactly the same on both the a650 and the a750, also i dont see myself using the wireless features of the a750, i have a PS3 and a 360 for that.

Also the a750 has a MUCH more obvious red bezel, my family couldnt even notice the red bezel on the A650, i of course knew it because im the one who purchased it and i know what i bought but when i told them about it then go t close to the TV and they are liike ohh its a red bezel LOL

AMAZING TV, 120hz is worth every penny i spent on this HDTV. i will never buy a 60hz HDTV again to be honest. and remember AMP is visible on some content VERY WELL but on some content u can barely see it.. but its doing its thing,

im qouting a sentence a guy here on AVS said in the past, dont remember who but he said "Once you go AMP you cant go back"

guess what, he was DAMN RIGHT about that
