After going through My reiver manual twice. I went through it a third time and found a small scetion hidden away towards the back abut picture and audio sync. You have to use the remote in order to change and fix it. i finally got it figured out and audio and video sync don't seem to be a problem anymore. thanks for the help.

Do you think they changed anything from when it came out? The lag problems when not in game mode are still there as it will be with most any modern TV with the types of processing going on. This is why both Sony and Samsung as well as others have a game mode, to bypass the processing that is needed to make the picture as good as it can be for viewing movies and other programming. It will be many years if ever when a TV will come out with all the processing and allow you to use it while gaming without lag. I personally don't think game mode looks bad at all. It can be a bit bright for some I suppose, that's easily fixed by going in and turning on the enrgy saver feature to either low, medium, or high.

In dark scenes, you may see some reflections of the light boucing off the mirror behind you due to A650's reflective screen.

You should be able to test the effect by having a bright flashlight or something behind the TV.

Sure enough the young associate tasked with bringing me my "new" replacement showed up. Right from the get go I new they were trying to pull a fast one. The retaining straps were already cut, and upon lifting the box the "protective" plastic wrap that adorns the base was missing, not to mention the power cable also being loosely tied and placed on the bottom of the box.

I kinda laughed it off as bad Karma trying to bite back at me (I used to be a Radio Shack Manager and let employees get away with this) and demanded to speak with the store manager.

Bottom line I got a new tv sans $100 (in Gift Certificates) which was later reduced further by price protection (2 of them!) due to new sales. Of course TBE took care of that tv which gave me my glorious a650 that I got from Samsung as a replacement for my 4069.

First Tv came with a busted box, stirafoam coming out of the box, Unpacked it and it had no film on any sides of the TV just the stands. Turned it on and didn't have to select time zones, what language to display, Where the Tv would be used (retail or home).

I have concluded that the first Tv CC gave me was either used or displayed in the store. Either way I paid full price for it. Which is ****ing ********.

Is there anything I can do other than Giving the store director an Earful, and probably running out some potential buyers?

Isn't it pretty much safe to say that this set will have less lag during games then my 3 year old 32inch sharp aquos?

I don't think it's safe to say at all. I'm not sure that as technology grows lag will become less. With all the processing, lag may increase. It takes time to do all the processing of picture found in these new sets to get the results they're getting. Again, this is why game mode exists.

First I just got this tv last night and all I can say is WOW.

Maybe someone can help me when I change the channel you see the picture of the new channel for a split second and then it is a black screen for like 2 seconds and then goes to the new channel picture. Anyway to stop this from happening?

Could be an HDMI handshake issue between the STB and your set. What is the box and model of it? If you have cable or an antenna, can you hook it up and see what happens when you change channels? I think it's the box/HDMI issue...

How would I go about changing the DVD settings as you say to? thanks for your help
post #16183 of 23505
I will give it a try with the flashlight to see what happens. Thanks.

If I don't turn off the sTB, and then don't use the remote for a long time (say thru out the night), the morning, I have the same problem.....

Long time ago, I have read that some TVs leak some kind of interference for the first few minutes, blocking the STB control via remote.

I personally haven't had this issue with my TV; try placing the STB as far away as you can and see what happens.

If you don't turn off your STB overnight but leave the TV off during that time, turning on the TV in the morning will interfere with the remote's signal.

hello all,

i just borrowed a ln37a650 from circuit city for 25 days. my sony 34xbr910 has a power source issue. 3-4 week repair time.

should the set be set to "MONITOR" or cable tv? i'm getting red, purple & red line moving from bottom to top. i should have borrowed a sony

maybe it's the b&w center channel speaker 2'' below the tv??

I found this while googling:

I purchased LN52A650 yesterday and I couldn't wait to see what's inside. Luckily for me, Samsung posted firmware upgrade for the 650 series. at http://www.samsungsupport.com/650/ so i did not have to take the TV apart.

I downloaded the firmware and unpacked it. It runs linux (2.6.18 ARM kernel) and it is hackable!

You can easily customize all bitmaps, sounds, and text strings.

For those interested in exploring this further:

The firmware images use squashfs filesystem. To mount them you need to add squashfs support to your favorite linux distribution.

The firmware comes as a set of images:

chip.img stores kernel module for samsung chips. Lots of debug info available.

*snip*

I'm not a programmer by trade but maybe somebody could hack into the firmware to make it better?

That's the 37" version of the 650. No 120hz or AMP.

Hmm...I can't find it on Samsung's site. Their LCD list doesn't include it and a search produced no results.

Maybe you should have borrowed a Samsung that is real/ Worth talking about.

Hey I got an 08 GTO I can sell you. It has a 6.2 Liter.

I love how Sony fanboi's come in here trying to trash the Samsungs.

Its funny how samsung never made a 37inch 650 series. LOL LOL LOL

You probably got the 550, Which IMPO is way below the 650. No 120Hz, 30,000:1 Contrast ratio. 5 MS response time. Very equivalent to the V4100.

Maybe they discontinued that model (poor sales maybe). I know they still make the 37a550 and the 32a650. Maybe thats what he meant, unless some store still have the 37" 650 laying around. I also don't know what he meant by set it to Monitor.

I've taken on a mission to inform that if you copy another person's settings it is an unreliable way of obtaining accurate picture. The standard or as GeorgeAB says frequently "image fidelity". Calibration involves adjusting the settings according to your TV, environment, components and viewing habits.

Now that I got that off of my chest, carry on...

Gmo0ve - How do I change it to the settings you described(HDMI Black Level: (grayed out) <-- DVD Player YCbCr/RGB (HDMI): YCbCr)?
Are you referring to the TV or PS3 settings?? Please help

I don't think there was ever a 37" 650.

Here is an old post on the sub-40" models. It links to a press release with specs on the entire line. No 37.

donaldsonjune came looking for setup help. His sony comment could have only meant that if he'd gotten a sony, that he would already be familiar with the setup process.

Why not give him the benefit of the doubt, seems reasonable to me

I agree. But it's hard to help him when we don't have info we can work with.

My box is completely useless when my tv is on. As soon as the tv is off the remote works again. I called Comcast and they said to get a new box because the firmware may be old. My parents have the 46A650 (made 8/31) and the same box with NO problems. My 40A650 (made 5/31) is killing my cable box. Also I have Component 1 stuck on in my source list even though nothing is plugged into it! I'm getting so frustrated by this ****.

Benefit of the doubt??? He came in here saying he bought his Samsung with every intention of returning it after his tv was repaired. I don't think we should help people like that.

I just noticed this afternoon that my 650 seems to be displaying a picture that is stretched wide. When I switch to JUST SCAN it gets better, but the station logos are still partially off the screen. I never changed any settings before this, and the DVR I rent doesn't seem to have any buttons on the remote that might cause this with an accidental push.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Who is your provider? I have this issue with Dish network sometimes. It's the button at the bottom left. The "*" key. With Dish it will change the display.

My cable box is a Samsung SMT-H3050

Any suggestions?

He was asking who provides your cable/satellite service. Comcast, Verizon, Dish Network etc.

You might need to check the screen settings on your DVR. Does it happen on SD or HD content? Broadcasts in 4:3 SD will be stretched if your DVR is set that way.
