Official Samsung LNxxA650 Owner's Thread - Page 544

I think this has been discussed before, but I'm experiencing the mechanical/electrical clicking sound coming from my LN52A650. I notice it when the TV is warming up or cooling down before and after use, but I also notice it when the TV has been on and completely warmed up. If the picture on the screen quickly switches to an image that is mostly black, I hear the clicking sound. It stops as soon as the displayed picture brightens up. Any thoughts?

Is CC Warranty worth it?

I am trying to decide which samsung TV to buy, and have been reading all the forums on the 650, 750 etc. WIth all the issues listed in these forums, is this a good overall tv? Seems just about everyone is having issues with bezel, purple glow, TOC, hook-up. Would you all buy this tv if you had it to do all over again...and would you go with the 650 or 750?

Not only would I do it all over again, I'm thinking about buying another one for the bedroom !!! I love this tv! I guess I'd go with the 650 as I have seen the halo and it does bother me a little but the main reason is the I prefer the look of the bezel on the 650 more.

How does the Sunday Ticket look on this LCD?

I have read through almost this entire thread and have found a couple posts regarding audio drop but nothing real definitive. I have a Cox Cable Motorola cable box and have been having severe audio drop out problems with my LN52A650. The box is connected to the TV over HDMI. About every minute sometimes more frequently the audio drops out for a fraction of a second. I have tried three different cable boxes and tried in several different rooms thinking it might be the cable itself. I have tried three different HDMI cables and all ports on the TV. I am at the point where I feel it has to be the TV. There does not seem to be too much out there with people having this problem other than a couple cases here. The TV came with a more recent firmware than is on the Samsung website so there is no help there either. I don't know if I should take the TV back to Circuit City or what. Anyone else since having any problems or and advice. I have also tried a surge protector with no luck either and the TV is no where near a computer or something else that might interfere.

Before you take it back, how about disconnecting the HDMI cable, and hooking your STB up, via the component cable connections. Not sure if you will hear any difference that way or not, but worth a try. Also, you might wait till Monday, and give the Samsung tech support people a call. Sorry i can't help more.

I've had the TV since May and I have none of the issues you mentioned.

Which firmware to you have? I had the same issue when I was using 2003.0 but have not had the issue with 1003.M or 2001.3. Try switching your firmware if you do have 2003.0 and see if that helps. Let me know if it does because I loved the picture I got with 2003.0 but the audio dropout drove me crazy.

trust me i feel the same way. i have been pretty fortunate with my 71f the only issue that it has is through component cables it seems to have problems de interlacing so i cant use AMP and i get TBE through component. when i use HDMI all gone, its just unfortunate cause my entertainment system is through my xbox 360 and its first gen so no HDMI. BB might replace my TV for a 650 but we'll see i have had a 4 tech's come out. so im using a dedicated HD DVD player as my source for movies. these expensive TV's have there issues but it sure beats my old CRT. looking forward to getting these lights though

I'm starting Week 4 with my LN52A650 and I'm having none of those issues. Yes I would buy it again.

There is also the advanced option for AMP, like for specific horizontal & vertical options. You might have to tweak them to get the AMP to its absolute strongest.

I've had the audio dropout occasionally on my 46A650 thru the HDMI/Cable box connection. I've been able to stop it by simply turning the TV off and on again. Once the TV is back on, no more dropout - at least until the next power cycle. But really, it only happens once every 2 or 3 days.
I have FW 2003.0

I know we can't talk price specifics here- but traditionally, do premium models such as the LN46A650 experience cut rate Black Friday prices? I only ask because I noticed "Big River" has a crazy price for this model right now that undercuts BB and CC by ~ $600 (and no tax) and I've been wanting to pull the trigger on this model for the last 2 wks. I can wait as long as I have it by NFL playoff time as I'm too busy right now to watch much TV. I've been to my local BB twice to look at it and I just can't wait to get it home and hooked up. I don't mind if I miss out on say $50-75 but if thy price is significantly lower, I might pull out my hair. I know lower end models typically have crazy deals but again, what about the upper echelon sets? Will the newer 8 & 9 series Samsungs push the prices on the 6 & 7 down even further? If prices keep falling at this rate- I may as well go for the 52" variant.

BTW- the set will anchor a Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K receiver, Sony PS3 or BDP-S350 Blu-Ray player and a set of JBL Venue speakers. no cable or Sat yet- will be grabbing OTA HDTV.

Same situation as you! its gonna be atleast 2months till i buy so I'm wondering if the 850/950 will lower the price on the A650.

The cheapest on Black friday I could see CC doing it for is 1499 for the 46 and 1999 for the 52. Honestly I bet they wont even have a special on the 650. BB and CC wont get the 950 for a while.

Looks very nice! For a stand that size, you should have picked up the 46"

Is that LED in your cabinet? that must look nice at night (hope you turn it off when watching TV )

thanks! i just moved in my new place, so i was really limited on cash!! my viewing distance is about 8 feet, so the 46 would of been perfect but i didnt have the extra 500 bucks in cash for it!

yes those are led lights and yes i turn them off! They also change color ever couple of seconds..

Using the TV speakers, very, very intermittently, when I mute the audio, I'll get a loud electrical buzzing sound (like a short). If I unmute, it stays in the buzzing state, until I switch channels.
I thought it was only on NBC, but the other night, I was cycling through the channels, and it happened on another station, even when not muted.

I've since turned the TV speakers off, as I usually route the audio through my AVR, anyway, but since it's only 1 month old, I phoned Samsung. They contacted a local servicer, which phoned me, and will set up a service call.
Of course, because it's so intermittent, I doubt it'll happen when they show up.
Just curious if anyone else has this issue.

Thanks for the insight. I'd probably be going with Amazon anyway- I'm just curious on how low they'll go.

Another question: I just finished fixing up my basement (so ambient light won't be a problem with the set's glossy screen) and from the center of my sitting position to the TV stand is about 8-8.5'. For you owners- do you think the 46" will be large enough or should I go for 52"? I won't be watching much SD material down there- I have an upstairs TV for that. Will use the Samsung primarily for movies, sports, and HDTV primetime network shows.
I had this problem before and my understanding it is source related - just don't know how to get around it on the LN52A650.

When displaying 4:3 SD the first few rasters are repeated across the entire top of the screen. Not a big deal but it is distracting.

Is there a way to expand the picture in the vertical by about 10 rasters? I know this will add an aspect distortion but it will be quite minimal.

thanx.

I have the same viewing distance as you, and got the 52A650.
I think for that distance, 52" is the maximum size you could get; and you know you want the biggest picture possible!
So if your budget allows for the 52", you should go for it!

I originally planned on getting the 46" as well (with 8.5" viewing distance), but after looking at the two side by side and $400 price difference, I had to go for the 52"

Now I have a peace in mind that I won't have any regrets for not getting a larger set when I move to a bigger place.

But 40" should serve you fine, and I love your wooden floor and wall color as well!

I will post some pics of my setup when I have some time.

I am thinking of getting an extended warranty for my 52" 650. It is a Mack warranty which extends the manufacturers warranty by an additional 3 years. It would cost around $171. Is it worth it? Comments?
