And no, it just came from the long exposure... no dead pixels whatsoever!
post #212 of 23505
Are you grabbing both sides and trying to get it to swivel?
post #213 of 23505
Owners: if using the built-in speakers, can you comment on the sound quality?
post #214 of 23505
I had a couple of questions if anyone could answer.

I think someone else asked about a PC hooked up through HDMI. My further question on that is if a PC is hooked up to one of the HDMI ports and not the VGA port, would the color range be from 0-255 (PC Standard) or 16-235(consumer electronics standard). This would make a difference if one is using a PC with this TV.

Second question, are there options for selecting sound input independent of video input, i.e. HDMI 2 with PC input or HDMI3 with HDMI 2 analog input?

any new pics? such as maybe some casino roayle pics on some of the entertainment modes? would like to see how that compares to the one that was posted earlier

Im not sure why anyone would ever use this TV on anything but an entertainment mode, it makes that much of a difference. If you guys recell my first review i railed this TV every different way because it is an inferior mation on all modes but entertainment which it is superior to every other TV i can think of. This is the stranges thing i have ever come accros in electronics. hmmm, just confusing

Owners of the 6 series can do us a favor by checking for TBE in the various modes. There is a consistent way to reproduce TBE, if you have the Planet Earth HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc.

Episode 2. The golden eagle crane chase scene exhibits TBE artifacts. At around the 47 minute mark, they show two eagles chasing a crane. In the 20 seconds or so after the 47 minute mark, you can clearly see the crane breaking up into 3 images several times.

Entertainment Mode= NO TBE... PERIOD!!!
post #221 of 23505
I just returned my 4071 for a 46A650 at BB, I was able to get the 650 for $2399 (at BB) after a price match to ABCwarehouse here in MI.
So paying the extra $400 was hopefully worth it, I will get mine on Tuesday the 18th.

Manaburn, does your TV swivel on it's stand? Mine doesn't. I was just wondering if that was a feature lost on the 6 series.

yea it swivels

dude you really need to go back an read the whole thread. I dont need a DVD to check TBE i need a video game with crosshairs. That is the ultimate test. 650 fails test on any amp setting unless TV is in one of the 3 entertainment modes

I'm a little confused. It's my understanding that Entertainment Mode is similar (equivalent?) to Game Mode on the 71 series. Does that mean EM runs at 60hz like GM?

So basically in EM, Samsung has delivered the Holy Grail of LCD TVs?

I'm very excited, but this seems almost too good to be true. Is that your opinion? If EM mode is hands down the best with no TBE, why would there be any other modes? And does EM give the soap opera look, or is it just a dumbed down version of it?

Dude, we want to know if there is TBE in the other modes. Dude, not everyone plays games, and dude, not everyone wants to use entertainment modes exclusively.

For anyone wanting to test - specific time markers below

Planet Earth Disk 1: Title 2: chapter 2: 00:12:50 (wolf-carabu chase)
Planet Earth Disk 1: Title 3: chapter 5: 00:47:11 (golden eagle chase)

Wow, i actually meant the 71, dont know why i put 750, but i was definetly refering to the 71 that being the tv i currently own. I'll blame my gf for blabbing in my ear while i was trying to type.

So i'll ask again and type it correct this time since she is sleeping lol...........How is the blur on the 650 compared to the 71?!!!!.
post #229 of 23505
The only hd source I have right now is my 360 through component. One thing I can say for sure is that this set seems to be really clear, I also haven't seen the heat wave around objects with amp on any level. seems to be working great, but I haven't even had it 1 day yet. Once I get more time ad my ps3 i will give a better report, but so far so awesome

Mosh~~

I too wonder this, as i do not have a sound system yet and depend on the internal speakers until i figure out what kind of system i want. The speakers on the 71 seem pretty decent. Definetly not the best, i think the best sounding internal speakers i have heard are on the sony xbr, but that is surely no reason to buy a tv. But it would be nice if the speakers on the 650 are at least as good as the ones on the 71.

Even if response time is 0, there will still be blur, and that's where AMP/120Hz comes in to the rescue.

Abs agree. Let's wait real figures from testers.
IMHO main reason of blur - current McFi implementation in 120Hz S-PVA panels (4 channel LVDS input with ODD/EVEN subdomen in every subpixel).

BTW European A550/A650 have direct HDMI inputs to scaler.
Again European TV is better
Waiting info about European A750 - hope it will be with DVB-T2 FE.
Sony sell such already.

Well, like you also said before, you cannot calibrate in those modes. Different people like their tvs calibrated differently, not to mention calibrated to room environment. I just could not live with a tv that only worked right when you used a non-changeable calibration.
post #233 of 23505
If this new set is actually any better than the 71, dont you think you should be able to get the same PQ not using one of the entertainment modes. You would think when using the mode that can be calibrated, that you could get it looking very good as well. If you cant, thats definelty a downfall IMO.

Yes, Entertainment Mode is Game Mode, this is Samsung's way of fixing the motion artifacts. Dumb it down so that most people will get excited and comment that it's sooooooo much better than the 71 series. I've been trying to explain this to manaburn but he doesn't seem to understand.

So for someone like me with limited knowledge of all this (still learning), what does this mean? Does seeing this service menu screen say anything useful, is there anything that strikes interest?

Just that the 650 series is still using the Micronas chip (not XILLEON) and it shows the firmware number. This is the screen you look for when you want to know the firmware version. This is for the 40" as an example.

Personally, I never owned a 71 series. However, I did spend a good deal of time in front of one in numerous different stores. Seemed every time I was in Best Buy, which was often, I had to check it out for a while. However, I would say that the blacks look just as good if not better on the 650 as they did on the 71. However, I personally wasn't able to see a difference in blacks on the 71 vs 81, so take that for what it's worth. Over all, Id say I am very satisfied with my purchase thus far.

Sure enough, you are right. The thing just swivels fine. Not certain what I was doing wrong there to begin with, but whatever. Also, what does the plastic cover that came in the remote bag go to and what does that thing that looks like a magnet that clips on a wire labeled TDK go to??? I didn't see anything on either one on the quick setup guide.

Also, I have my TV set to Entertainment:sports with AMP on Medium and it looks like sex. How do I set my PS3 to 24fps?

ok i wile bite where else are you gonna find a perfectly working amp. The TV is better than most LCDs without amp if you turn amp off. If you are looking for a better TV rite now you will not find it. I have come to the conclusion that we are expecting 2009 results out of our 2008 models. If we would have got these results on our first gen amp 2007 models i would have gone nuts. If you are searching for the perfect TV with amp working perfectly on all modes wate till this time next year
post #240 of 23505
Can you guys set the TV in MOVIE mode (or STANDARD) and turn OFF the following features:

* DNIe (may be turned off already)
* DNR (Digital Noise Reductions)
* EDGE ENHANCEMENT
* BLACK LEVEL
* ENERGY SAVINGS

Now test some materials again with AMP on HIGH. Would like to hear back what the outcome is.

Thanks in advance.
