Can somebody help me with this problem. I didn't know what to search for?. I just brought this TV and it's a great TV. So here is my problem: when I hook up satellite or PS3 to my TV using HDMI wire, I only get entertainment picture mode. Other pictures modes are grayed out. Other options are grayed out too like, Backlight, Contrast, Brightness, sharpness. I only thing I can change is Amp 120hz and 16:9. I have the latest FIRMWARE.
Use the E.Mode button on the remote to turn off entertainment mode. Then you'll be able to make adjustments.

Has activity stopped, or just a bug? Last post is dated 3/22. This is 3/29.
Well, this one showed up immediately. So OK.

Now, the set occasionally clicks very loud when turning off. Almost like something arcs. Happens once every few days, like the blackout.
Because I like it bright I have it set very close to the Sports mode. Could I be burning out something?
All this will be very hard to reproduce.

Try updating the latest firmware. It is supposed to take care of the automatic turning off problem with the set.

If your set keeps going on and off on a continuous loop, then you've got a real problem that requires replacing a board. Otherwise, if it just seems to turn off randomly on occasion, then i think the firmware should take care of it.

Thanks for your comment, but I think you misinterpreted my question - or maybe I was not too clear.
The set does not turn off. When I turn it off, it sometimes make a loud cracking sound.

I've just purchased my new LA46A650A1R SAMSUNG LCD, when testing at home I discovered that this model doesn't handel firmware upgrading throug the user menu. Ientered the service mode (PWR Off - Info - Menu - Mute - PWR On) and found tha the USB update can be done by the Advanced service menu.

My problem is that I can't find on the official Samsung WEB Site any firmware version available for this model. the current version installed in my LCD is :

PRLPEUS 1004.0
AMBMEAM 1009.3

Sep. 10 - 2008 12:43:15

1/ Is it the last version for this model?
2/ Where can I find firmware for this model?
3/ Does firmware version 1013.0 of the LA46A650A1M (available on Samsung site) work with this model (LA46A650A1R)?

Please Help!

So I have a USB flash drive with some music and pictures on it, the TV detects it and can see the pictures but not the music. Is it just a limit of the TV's software that it can see pictures in a folder but not music? Or do I have something not set correctly?

When was the last time Samsung offered a firmware update for the LN52A650?

I was wondering if they might offer any updates for the new 3d revolution that appears to coming around the corner. Considering what these TV sold for you'd think they might respect that.
I would be happy to see a firmware update to allow streaming from Netflix or something similar. But since it was never advertised as having the ability for this when it was sold I doubt that it will ever happen. They want us to buy a new set every year.

That may have been true with the original firmware but it's working for me now. I'm using the latest official (2007.0) firmware. I know video isn't supported, but I could just use my PS3 for that.

So last december, my LN52650A started the turn off/turn on issue. I called Samsung after paying for a three year warranty (thru Samsung) and they sent a zip drive with a firmware update. Uploaded it and didn't do anything. Turn off/turn on 2-3 times an hour of watching. Set up an appointment for a tech to come out and I explained the problem. He acted like he never heard of it before. But he replaced the motherboard but didn't replace the power board. He told me if it did it again to touch the screen and if it flashes under my fingers, the power board is good. Well of course it started happening again and I did as he said and there were flashes under my fingers. So it wasn't the power board.
My set continued with the issue 2-3 times an hour (takes like 5 seconds but is annoying to say the least) again. So set up another appointment this past monday and they sent the same tech. He replaced the whole flat panel this time. he told me if it started again, then it wasn't the tv's fault. Looked like it would be ok. Last night watching American Idol, it happened again. But it was only once the entire night.

Lessee...Tried firmware update. Didn't work.

They sent tech out and he replaced motherboard. Didn't work.

They sent tech out again. He replaced flat panel. Said if that didn't work, then not the TV's fault.
Issue happened again one day after panel replacement. Waiting to see if issue continues.

I paid $400 for a three year warranty thru Samsung good until 2013.

What would you all do?
I would say that if you can demonstrate that it occurs when using the TV's tuner or that it occurs with more than one input, you've proven that it has to be an issue with the TV.

Hi yesterday I downloaded a file on Brazilian Samsung site (no longer available).
It appears to be all the source Samsung was suppose to post because it uses open source code on their TV.
The strange thing is that today I checked the site again and it is no longer there, the date it was posted was also one day arread.
If anyone is interested plese reply. I think it would be useful to firmware tweaking.

I am interested in ading video for the USB and internet.

Congrats!

Yeah, this tv blows the socks off most others out there. I helped a buddy shop for tv's and he picked this one. It makes me insanely jealous every time I go to his house!

hey guys new to the forums; so forbid me if the issue has already been resolved.

(since the date of this pic; the size of the cloud has increased and darkened.)

So ive had my ln40a650 for over 1 1/2 year+ -- used it strictly for gaming; and loved every bit of it...

i want to say about 1 year+ after; i started noticing a darker grey cloud near the corner of my tv; which obviously isn't normal.

It annoys the He** out of me due to the fact that i cant help but notice the darker area...

So i contacted samsung (warranty expired after a year) and was referred to a local technician who then told me I would need a new front panel (not sure if i heard correct) and the estimated cost for parts + labor would be around $500.00

Now paying 500.00 dollars on a tv thats already an older model ( a series ) is a complete waste;

my question is; is there an alternate solution to the fix of this problem?
--Is there a way i could order the replacement part via website; and do it myself at home; labor charges fail.

Or should i just say screw samsung; sell the TV as is; and buy a new one? preferrably not a samsung

I just wanted to give a thank you for this thread, and more particularly the firmware updates.

The firmware update for the LN46A650 no longer appears to be available on the Samsung US or Canada support websites. Even the FAQ article that describes the power-off problem with this TV and provides a link to the firmware page simply directs you to a page where there are, in fact, no firmware downloads available!

My follow-up customer support experience with Samsung has me seriously doubting I will buy another Samsung TV, despite how much I like the picture on their sets.

I called tech support to request the firmware update (as the website says you can do). The first customer support rep stumbled his way around the website with me on the phone before first telling me to, "Google it." When I tried to explain that this is really a technical support issue and that someone there has this firmware, he told me that he really didn't know what else to say.

Being used to dealing with tech support, I knew this call wasn't going anywhere so I said goodbye and called back immediately to speak to someone else, telling him I was most unimpressed with being told to "Google it" by customer support.

This agent spoke to his supervisor and they both looked on the website -- um... yeah... didn't I make it clear that the whole reason I'm calling in is because it's *not there*? -- and came back with the conclusion that: "There is no firmware update available for this set." I asked him, as politely as I could, if he understood how ridiculous that sounded when their own website has a page describing a firmware update. He said he understood, but they have no firmware updates. I said that the firmware clearly exists, and there has to be someone (a tech, an engineer, someone!) who has this firmware, but he assured me that there was no escalation path. If they didn't have it, nobody did.

Unreal! The saddest thing is that I just replaced my secondary set with a Samsung 40" LCD yesterday... I'm so frustrated that I'm seriously considering returning it on principle at this point.

So, thanks again for providing a link to something that even the manufacturer seems unable to provide (and most unwilling to help a repeat customer locate!). My TV has now been updated... so now I just hope that the power-off problems I've had since day one will finally be solved...

Anyone know if the 650 series supported deep color and at what rate? If so is there a setting within the 650 that needs to be turned on. I just bought a OPPO Blue-ray that supports this feature and has different output settings. Thanks.

Yes, the A650 should support deep color. It should be listed under Detailed Settings as xvYCC which you simply turn on or off. Depending on which mode its in, it might be grayed out, or it may highlight once you activate the deep color on the BD player.

I have had my 46a650 since November 08 and have loved it. A few days ago I encountered my first real issue with the set. Randomly (a few times an hour? no particular set schedule) it will switch inputs OR turn off altogether, not turn off/on that others seem to have.

I would guess its one of three things:

1) Mote is going haywire - I tried taking the batteries out of the mote and still encountered this issue.

2) Being in an apartment, maybe someone has the same model and the tv is picking up their mote - I don't have a good feel on remote tethering, but I imagine this is highly unlikely.

3) Tv is going to crap - Really hope this isnt the case.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any recommendations?

Hi all, it's been quite a while since my husband and I have checked the forum ( cause our 650 is running so great ), but we are seriously thinking of getting a PS3 so that we can use it with Netflix.

It seem like a long time a go when we were active on this thread, that I remember there being some do's and don't with hooking up a computer to our LN52A650. Try as I might, I'm not sure what those do's and don't were all about. The only thing I do remember, that we hook up the HDMI cable from the PS3 to HDMI2 on the 650.

Was there anything else that we should be aware of, like making certain settings in the setup menu?

Also, is there a chance that the PS3 ( we haven't bought it yet ), could harm the 650?

Hello my LNxx650 owners, I'm still experiencing non-uniformity. I'd like to know what you think of this picture: http://tinypic.com/r/282mdu8/6

My backlight bleeding problem has been eating at me for a year plus now. The bleeding stretches from the top to the bottom on both sides extending five to six inches to the middle. The tech I had come out (twice) said that the problem is "normal." I don't know who to believe anymore. He said I could get a second opinion from another service center. I own the LN52A650, I have an SQ02 panel, and 2008.9 firmware.

I look forward to your replies, many thanks.

LONG TIME LURKER, first time poster!

I actually used this site to decide what tv to buy which leads me to my problem...

I have a LN52A650 I bought it in March 2009. Did not buy a warranty because A. i'm cheap and B. i've never used nor known anyone to actually use it once they bought it.

Anyway friday night my set turned off and will not turn back on. It just beeps and the red power light flashes this will just keep happening until you unplug the tv. I unplugged it overnight then yesterday plugged back in and it came right on. I watched tv for 10 minutes turned it off and the next time i went to watch it did the same beep/red light flashing untill i unplugged it....

I googled and found this is probably a power supply problem as they are known to be faulty.....?

Any suggestions on what to do next?
I'm using original firmware it came with...
How hard is the repair?

I'm pretty tech savy and comfortable taking things apart unless this is a MAJOR repair on a very pricey tv.

Well THANKS for any advice.

Back to using my rock solid 32" Olevia HDTV that i've had for going on probably 5 years.

BTW the 2007.0 firmware, dated "2008-09-05" is still available on the Samsung site in the usual 20MB self-unzipping .exe file but it's currently misslabled as being for the Linux OS:

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to watch movies from my usb external hard drive on the a650? And if so... how do I go about it? I plug in my Iomega eGO and the light comes on so I know it's getting power from the tv at least, but when i go to source... usb is greyed out??

Any Ideas? I really don't want to have to make a disc to play in the PS3 all the time I want to watch a movie!!
