Thanks!
It will pass 5.1 from it's built in tuner only, any external sources connected directly to the set will be 2 channel. This isn't an issue for most of us since it's more common to connect from source to AVR with video passed on to TV as Sammy2 has mentioned.

Interestingly, I recently tested this on my 650. My Dad has a Sony 40EX400 and Dish Hopper. The Hopper had issues with sound dropping out via optical, so as a workaround till they could get a software fix, we piped the HDMI to his Sony, then optical to the receiver. I would have lost a very large sum of money on this, but he was getting 5.1 DD from the Hopper through his TV. I tried this on my 650 (I also have a Hopper). It worked on the first channel (after swapping from my receiver), but any channel after that it didn't. I have a feeling that the hardware is there to pass 5.1DD, it's just the TV tells connected devices it only handles 2.0 audio, so that's all that the source sends. It'd be interesting to pop one of those HDMI EDID boxes in the chain, to tell source devices to send DD5.1, I have a hunch it'd work.

Does anyone still have the Service Menu screen shots available? I am not sure which firmware version I am using, so I was hoping to get my hands on each link that was previously posted. I recently had an issue where a drunk room-mate went into my service menu and set my Panel Type to PDP instead of LCD, killing me TV in the process. Please, if anyone has a working link to these screenshots, I would be most appreciative!

Thanks!

Start trouble

When powering up, my LN52A650 has just started to play the startup tones multiple times with an associated click before actually starting.
When it does eventually come up everything still works just fine

Last week it was cycling 3-4 times before coming up.
Today it cycled 8 times

Any ideas what is going bad?

Thanks

Bill

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I own the LN32A650A1F which I bought back in Jan 2009. This week I've been experiencing problems with the sound coming from the TV's internal speakers.

The issue begins gradually with static noise coming from the tv's speakers. Over time the static noise becomes worse by getting louder and the volume will also get louder then come down, then the volume will eventually disappear completely.

I have only two componets connected to the television, the cable box and an Apple TV, and the issue is consistent with both.

I contacted Samsung technical support which instructed me to do a factory reset, and if that didn't work I would need to schedule a service call. Has any one experienced an issue similar to this, if so how did you resolve it. Thank in advance.

There's a recall on the capacitors for this TV. Search this thread for more information.

I believe a lot of people in this thread have had their capacitors replaced. I have not, though.

I bought mine in late 2008, it was used everyday for about 8 months. Then it went up to my loft and was used sparingly, usually just weekend mornings. Now its im my master and is used a little more often. The only issue i have with it is, its a little slow starting up. I dont know if thats normal. My plasmas are way faster. Could that be an issue with the capacitors? Ive always subscribed to the "if it aint broke, dont fix it" moto. What would samsung do?

Sorry if this have been posted before, but couldn't find the correct word to describe what is going on with my LN52A650. We've had the set for a few years now without issue. Starting about a month ago, we're seeing this on turning the TV on. It'll last for about 5-7 minutes before screen returning to normal. At first it was happening sporadically, but now it's each time you turn the TV on. It's starting to now happen well after the TV has been on for awhile. If anybody can clue me in on what might be causing this, I'd greatly appreciate it. smile.gif
