FYI Circuit City is now carrying the 7 series in-store.

I checked them out today, they looked pretty much identical to the 6 series PQ wise from what I can tell (they were not side by side though).
The sticker had TOC on it, but the bezel looked all black from my eyes. The stylng is also a little similar to the XBR4 with floating glass, except nowhere as bad.

Congratulations, btw!

Cool, I will do that. And thanks I am stoked, this is my last big spoiling gift to myself for a loooong time as i will be broke for the next 4-8 yrs.

I saw the 52" 750 today. It has the red TOC 100% no doubt!!

It's even more pronounced than the 650. The 750 bezel has a clear overhang of about 3/4 to 1 inch. The red TOC takes up about 1/2in of that overhang. Therefore if you have any light whatsoever behind the tv, the red will reall show strong. Actually I like it.

sry guys but no one really explained wut this purple issue is?? my 71 was very wierd with viewing angles if i loooked dead center it would be perfect color but if i moved even like and inch to the right or left the black became greyish in tone and looked cloudy, i figured it was due to teh glossy panel

So I guess some sets have no flashlighting at all? I own the 52inch , I ve got it bad in both upper corners.
Also, whats wrong with the AMP that the new update fixes?
I noticed with AMP on last night when watching baseball, a throw made across the field seemed to stutter or skip across not very fluent. With AMP off this did not happen.

They're bringing me a new LN40A650 tomorrow morning because i can't justify that money and look at clouds in there. I will report on the outcome.

I've updated the firmware to the latest and tested with a Blu Ray, it was flickering quite a bit on left to right travellings. Normal with 24p material but i did notice it more than usual. I doesn't do that with my good ol 4061f.

Really, it was kinda dark at the store & it seemed black. One thing I did notice was that the bezel was much thicker/bigger than the 6 series. Made the TV look like it was bigger than it actually is, it did give it a more exotic look though.

BTW did you notice any PQ/reflection difference between the two models?
I couldn't really tell because the 6 & 7 series were running different feeds.

With all your paranoia about the 650, you haven't once mentioned the xbr4's issues with SMEARING (caps for big scary effect). Why aren't you just as apprehensive of the xbr4?

Samsung seems a lot more responsive to technical issues than Sony, imho.

To me they looked the same as far as PQ/reflection

and yes the bezel is larger than the 650

Bought from Ken Crane in Los Angeles

True, the floating "glass" edge does remind me of the XBRs, but the stand on these A650s is much more elegant; the frumpy stand on the XBRs couldn't be uglier, IMO.

Can someone tell me if TNT HD is messed up the 650's also. Thanks

That's terrible.
That is exactly what impressed me about the new Oakleaf Plantation Circuit City here in Jax. I've been through my own TV hell the past 13 months and have had many experiences with both online and B&M dealers. But none have treated us more graciously than those folks. The manager there assured us, when we brought in our TV for a swap the second time (for the third TV), he would keep swapping it out, as many times as we needed, until we were happy, "no problem". When we told him about the fine scratches on the bezel on the 2nd TV, he said "That is not acceptable! We'll swap it out, no problem." What a relief - we had been so stressed, concerned they might give us a hard time after already swapping out the first set.

That looks really bad. Some have said you can adjust it out with fine-tuned settings, but without sacrificing PQ? Black Adjust loses black detail (causes black crush) in OTA programming, from my experience. I personally would swap it, if you got it from a B&M. I'm mean, the whole right 1/3 of the screen is distinctly different from the rest, for goodness sake.

Thanks bud, I hear you. Some of it maybe could have been a little better.

In all fairness to BB though, the one guy there, Eric, (he wasn't a blue-shirt either, maybe he was like an assistant manger or something) who I was dealing with during return one and then two, was really, really nice and understanding. He could not have been better. The problem was he was not the store manager and he had to ask her how she wanted to handle the problem.

The manager was this lady, and I could *easily* tell she had just about enough of me and my scratch TV problems, she made that quite clear - that's when I felt bad. But in the end they did send another one out in just two days and all is good now.

Also, I may just have very well received the very first 1003.M set because of all those scratches, who knows. Bottom line, right now I guess that I am a happy customer, so I guess they did alright in the end.

Maybe, most of the time its gets real grainy and flickers(tiny little squares on screen)when someone moves or camera pans. Its almost all the time. especially with law&order

well, i know that TNT does have some issues. I am not sure about TNTHD, but I hear that that channel also has issues.

I see it the most whenever i watch basketball, with the camera panning like you said (seen it on cable and on satellite). What i see is the signal flickers/stutters like it had really bad frame rate. I doubt the 650 will fix it. It may smooth it out, but it really is a source problem (come on TNT, fix your dang channels).

Maybe some 650 owners can comment on TNT's channel quality while using a 650.

Yep, I get that all the time. My cable provider, COX, sends out a compressed mpeg 2 signal for that channel. The local channels looked uncompressed and basically perfect. David Letterman never looked so good, which isn't saying much I know. Why it this is so annoying. HBO that I have to pay extra for gets compressed but the stuff I can get free over the air is sent perfect. The priorities are very wrong at COX. It is the source, nothing to do with your TV and nothing you can do about it other than buy/rent/download a better source.

Just bought the A650 from Magnolia but have to wait for delivery, scheduled for this Friday. Can't wait, going to be tough watching my old Sharp 45" 7U until then. May just save the Blu-ray's from Netflix for this week for A650 watching.

I see a lot of you guys buying your TVs at retail stores (BB, HHGregg, etc)... Is there a specific reason for that? I am about to buy mine at Amazon as they have the best price I have seen so far and no taxes or shipping... I dont see why I would be paying almost $600 more (price difference + tax) to be able to pick it up the same day... Or is there a different logic behind it all?

Your supposed to use the microfiber cloth that came with it dry, if you have tough fingerprints then add water to the cloth. You can also pick up a bag of microfiber clothes at costco or sams club tha are better than the one that came with the tv.

My 650 came with a special cloth for cleaning as well as detailed instructions as to the direction in which to wipe the bezel and screen. The instructions say to lightly spray =water on the cloth before wiping it down. NO CHEMICALS

Yeah what Mosh said.
