also make sure the TV is in JUSTSCAN P.MODE.. in 16x9 my set overscans a bit but in justscan it is fine.
If its is already in justscan then you have to go into your video card control panel and just shrink the out put to fit your screen.

From other comments, HDMI2 is only one that has audio L/R input, and since DVI doesn't have audio they say you should use HDMI2. On my set it worked perfectly fine on any other HDMI port. Make sure you set the black level so it is compatible with PC.

When did this price cut happen? For comparisson, is this cut reflected already in the price at Amazon currently?

This is INCORRECT. The settings for HDMI2/DVI are different than normal when changed so the source name is "PC." The audio input is NOT the only difference. I noticed significantly better PQ when following samsungs recommendation.

There is no downside to having my cable STB connected to the HDMI2 input on the set is there? I have Xbox360 in HDMI 1 and PS3 in HDMI 3.

quick question.

When you have a blank screen, lets say when you turn the tv on do u get what looks like a buch of white noise when your close to the screen. I cant see it when im 6 to 7' away but when im close i can see it going crazy.

Previous 120hz sets have been tested to have a motion resolution of 600 lines almost straight across the board.
From my eyball tests, it looks like the 6 series is on par with that except for when DlNe is enabled, which seemed to improve motion by a tiny bit.

I just bought this TV and want to wall mount it above my fireplace, has anyone done this and have any recommendations for wall mounts?

First and foremost it is annoying. For those of us that have sets tainted with this it certainly detracts from the watching experience. Not everyone can sit directly in front of the TV at all times; the slightest angle causes blacks to turn purple and corrupts the viewing pleasure. As expensive as these TVs are this should not have to be tolerated. I don't think this point can be refuted. As an example, if I pay for a double cheeseburger I certainly want a double cheeseburger, a single patty of beef would only suffice half of what I want. Same with the TV, if I pay for a LNxxA650 I want the full LNxxA650, not only half of what it can do. Does this make sense?

Also, the sheer fact that people have confirmed that there are indeed sets without the "purple haze" makes it all the more desirable to have one that is flawless in this way. It would be a different story if all sets were plagued with the "purple haze" and there was no other way but to deal with it though this does not appear to be the case. There are good sets to be had and those of us with the "purple haze" really don't want to settle for anything else.

Exchanging a faulty TV seems appropriate in this case; there are non-faulty ones to be had.

Sorry for the rant. Just clearing up my own thoughts on the matter.

I think its time for those users with purple tint to call Samsung and to start to escalate this issue.

Do you use the fireplace? I am no expert, but i would imagine the heat from the fireplace is not good for the TV.

Rest of pictures at post #7048. My off-axis haze is blue rather than SEGA's purple.

2) RE: znutz' assertion that there are confirmed sets without purple haze--I'm not ready to sign off on that statement. I would like to see someone who is claiming to have NO PURPLE HAZE OFF AXIS post pictures at 45º in a completely dark room (like the one above), using znutz' settings (or close) to show us this.

Notice, the room must be DARK or else you don't see it--like this↓:

If I see someone post near-black 45º shots in the dark, I will certainly try to exchange mine (17 days left), because I must admit I will not settle for haze if there are sets that don't have it. I just am not yet convinced there are sets that DON'T have it. Please, if you don't have it show us! I want to know.

is this a color calibration thing, almost seems like some sets have a little tin of blueor blue and red at the deepest end. If you reduce R and B Gain does it change this 'purple haze' at all? Does loweing backlight lessen it?

does lowering brightness or all R,G,B Gains equally reduce it?

or is it something more insidiuous?

I plan to mount above the fireplace too. The fireplace gets almost no use during the winter and it's the perfect spot to mount the TV. There's practically a dotted-line box above the firepace that says "Place TV Here."

My 52" 650 will be delivered on Saturday via CEVA I have a question regarding the upconverting capabilities. First off, I am currently using an eight year old standard Sony DVD player with S-Video (does not have component connections) on my tube TV.

I've heard the 650 is excellent with standard definition upconverting. Therefore, I need to decide on using my current DVD player with S-Video. Or buying an upconverting DVD player so I can use component. How much picture quality improvement I would notice with a new upconverting DVD player and component cables on this TV? I'm not ready to buy a blu ray player yet. Any advice would be helpful. Thx!

I just got a 46" 650 and hooked it up to an old sony dvd player. The problem I'm having is that if I set the picture size to 16:9, fullscreen dvds are stretched to fit the screen. I'm trying to figure out if it the tv or the dvd palyer. Shouldn the tv automatically display widescreen as 16:9 and fullscreen as 4:3?

Hey, today I got my LN52A650 and set it up real quick to see how it looked.

For the most part everything is perfect with the TV so I hooked up my ps3 and put in my copy of MLB: The Show 08.

With my ps3 hooked up to hdmi 1 I am experiencing pretty bad lag in MLB as I'm swinging and late on almost every pitch and I am rarely late on pitches because I usually swing early.

So I set it to game mode and it works flawlessly and I experience no lag but the problem is the picture looks really dark in this mode and something like Yankee uniforms looks completely black when it really is a dark blue. Is there no way to adjust the pictures while in this mode? This makes me very sad . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, I can see that Cnet really does love that A650, according to that video I just watched from David Katzmaier. I did see it in person, and it almost did appear almost Pioneer Kuro plasma-like in performance and PQ. I'm glad that Samsung went in the direction that they did.

Just confirms what a lot of us have been saying. This tv is amazing.

What video? Did I miss a link somewhere on the cNet review?

Uhh, that's because he probably just made it today. You can view the video right now, since he has it up and running. Just go to Reviews (dot) Cnet (dot) Com, and then go to Television Reviews, then click on Flat Panel TVs, and it should show up for you under Samsung's most recent reviews.

On top of that, even tho he did review the 52" version of it, I can see the 46" version being the most popular size, at this point.

For all those experiencing issues with the "purple haze" I highly recommend the following steps:

A. Factory Reset

1. Turn off the TV
2. Press 'Mute' '1' '8' '2' 'Power'
3. The TV will start and you will be in the SM (give it a few extra seconds).
4. Select Optionbyte
5. Select Factory Reset twice

B. Proper Calibration
I highly recommend Cnet's "dark room" settings

It seems the combination of these two efforts have cleared up my "purple haze". I once thought my LN40A650 was plagued with the "purple haze" but it is no mas!

Here are a few images to show that the LN40A650 has almost perfect blacks even at the most extreme angles when reset and properly calibrated.

These images are all from 1080p sources at various angles in a completely dark room. Keep in mind the "full black images" needed their brightness increased in Photoshop just to show that there is indeed a TV in there The rest of the pictures are untouched!

Full black image at 160 degrees right
Full black image straight on

I took these quick shots. The first is dead straight, second is 45 degree off angle. The last is extreme off angle since some people like to watch their tv from that angle.

There were pics from CES in January in which i mentioned back then that blue would be the next color released. I haven't heard anything to the contrary yet. That was the plan, obviously it could always change to, well, purple .

I found it interesting that CNET saw no difference at 60hz vs 24hz in Blu-ray playback. Do these TVs do 5:5 pulldown or not, that's the question?

Is this actually how it looked in real life? It's sometimes hard to tell from pictures because cameras tend to over or underexpose.

pretty close, but like I said they were quick shots, since people were complaining of purplish tints.

The cnet settings are decent also, but you have to play around to see what you like
