Marantz SR7001 won't turn on

I just bought a factory refurbished Marantz SR7001, expecting an awsome receiver after reading all the great reviews here at avs. When I got it today, it won't even turn on. It just gives a rapid clicking sound around the power supply area and that's it. Has any body seen similar problems or got any ideas?

This can't be short circuit protection. Even with nothing connected, it does the same. Rapid clicking and nothing else.

I'm afraid I got a bad unit and would have to go through the hassle of sending it in for service. What a disappointment! Does Marantz even test these things at all before letting them out of the factory?

That is very similar to what others have reported in the past with some of the early 7001/8001 AVR's (cold solder joints) , it sounds like a defective unit and you should probably just exchange it since you just got it today . I can assure you that there is no better sounding AVR out there at this price point , some have more power , some have more features , but none sound better IMO .

Best of Luck ,

Thanks Jason. Yeah, I read about that dreadful "CHECK POW5" error, but mine is a little different. I don't get any display at all. The clicking starts when I plug in the power cable.

Anyway, I'm going to call Marantz technical support first thing Monday morning. Exchanging for another is, unfortunately, not an option for me. I bought it off auction. No exchange obviously, but at least it comes with one year manufacturer's warranty.

One would have thought that a factory refurbished unit is much less likely to be DOA compared to a brand new one. After all, it is factory re-certified.

Oh well, I hope it won't be long before I get a working unit. I have no doubt that the sound won't disappoint me.

JohnW88,

Did you buy yours from accessories4less?

No, I got it from ubid.

I wish I had read their return/refund policy. Basically, "Manufacturer's warranty supercedes uBid's return policy on defective merchandise when applicable."

Is there a reason you asked this? I bought mine from accessories4less and over the last month I've had a total of 3 days of actual operation.

It worked for a day and a half the first time, then the power light started blinking and I got nothing. Took it in for warranty service which took forever, finally got it back and hooked it up Thursday evening, guess what I woke up to find today......

Just got my refurbed SR7001 from a4l.com:
-Connected HDMI out to the TV and nothing else
-Connected the power cable
-Pressed the power button -> blue LEDs came on and the screen was blank
-Cycled the power using the power button -> nothing on the front; just clicks a lot
-Unplugged a couple of times - switched wall plugs -> nothing on the front; just clicks a lot
-Swapped out the cable -> nothing on the front; just clicks a lot

Questions for the helpful:
-Do I have to pay to ship it back to acl.com? How was everybody's experience with returns?
-Depending on the feedback on that one: I called the local service center:
(Media Associates, Inc. 616 National Avenue Mountain View, CA 94043 USA) which is about 2 miles from my house and spoke to one of their reps on the phone who said the turn around on fixing it would probably be about 2 weeks.
- He also mentioned that there have been a lot of problems in modern electronics attributed to RoHS and the elimination of lead solder.
-So with the above in mind: Service Center or Exchange with a4l.com????

Thanks a ton!

Mike
