Samsung BDP-1000 won't play a blu-ray disk???

Hey Guys:

I just bought this player. It plays regular dvd's just fine. I ran out and bought my 1st blu-ray disk set(Spiderman 3). Put it in the player and it said "load" in the display but then it displayed up on the tv, "Cannot play this disk" or something of that sort.

I put in the other disk with all the movie features on it in and it worked perfectly. So I ran out and returned the set and bought another Spiderman 3. The same thing is ocurring?

Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks,

Return the player. The Samsung BD players are pretty low quality.

I have one and I beg to differ with you on this. Pretty solid player and if the updates are installed and kept up with, you shouldn't have any problems.

OP, you probably need to update the firmware. Go here to get it and follow the instructions:

Agreed on the firmware update.

If you did not do any FW update at all? It's probably the FW.

+1 on the FW. I bought a used BD-P1000, updated the FW and it plays every BluRay title available (all POTC, LFDH, etc) first time with no issues. Pic quality is not the best, but it still looks better than SD. Paid less for it than my HD-A2.

I've played through Spider-Man 3 just fine on my BD-P1000 with the then-latest firmware (I believe 1.3, it was December 2007). The disc wouldn't play at first, but that's just because it was dirty (Blockbuster B&M rental). Try renting another disc and make sure that works. A firmware update is definitely your best bet though.

Thanks guys:

I'll look into the firmware update. I did not do any at all. I bet that the problem. I'll post back when I am finished.

Hey Guys:

It worked!!! I'm ATI. Spiderman 3 played perfectly after the F/W update. I didn't know anything about firmware updates. I am new to blu-ray.

I will be buying a better player in the near future. Probably the new Panny BD-50 whatever when it finally hits the US, but I picked up this one @ Circuit City for $90. It was an open box item. My regular dvd player crapped out on me after 15 years and this unit was staring me in the face. I thought it was a no-brainer!!!

Thanks again for your support,

Funny thing about supposedly better players?

I tried two sony players and returned them. They were slower and seemed buggier overall than the lowly regarded BD-P1000 and it remains in my dedicated theater rack, even over the PS3.
