RB6V 2, who has it, and what do you think? - Page 3

From IGN xbox360 review:

A lot of slowdown, some of it is understandable, other times it’s not. It doesn't run as well as the first Vegas.

uh, what happened, it sounds like both version did not meet the standards of the first? Especially for gamers who are sensitive to slow down and who demand a solid frame rate.

Sounds like they may have not been quite ready to add drop-in drop-out co-op. The game certainly does not look like it should have slow down. Its a shame when they rush games out, why the heck did they not just toss out a few map packs to make some $$$ and wait on the game?

-the game requires update as soon as you put in disc. The update says the file is 52MB but on the PS3 it was 2552MB under game utility file.
-the first load after update will take a LONG time. I mean like 5-7 minutes so be patient!
-the game froze on me already. I was playing online with coop and the guy ended the game session and my screen froze so I had to hard reboot. The game has not frozen since (1.5 hours).
-PSN signed me out already! I read in the manual to open more ports in router so I have not tried on line since I open new ports and will keep you posted.
-no mouse or keyboard support from what I can tell.
-720p was upconverted to 1080p (looks quite clean if you ask me) via my AVR receiver, so the game will play and look good on 1080p.
-I am rusty so I am still learning the game buttons all over again. Options on in game. Character build is similar.
-game play and graphics are smoother. You can now sprint! But the graphics are clearly better than RB6-1.
-I do not notice any lag, or framerate drop but have not played long.
-has split screen
-weapons are similar to version one.
-grenade now uses circle button. You can configure buttons via tactical , southpaw, legacy...
-I had to crank the volume up but audio sounds good, bullets sound with a pop. Flash bang grenades seem to freeze you more than last version.

That is all for now...

I'd like to know if you can do the face mapping with a regular camera as well. I'm not spending $40 for the Eye but I do have a Cybershot that I would think would work just as well.

So does anyone else have any feedback on actual game play? 95% of this thread is bickering over which screen shot looks better and about graphics. The graphics may not be as good as say COD4, but I really don't care. I am more interested on how this game plays both offline and online. I am looking for another game to supplement COD4, and I have this one on pre-order.

Please, anyone else that has actually played the game, post your experience and opinion about the game play.

I trust psych's review. I'll be picking this up in 66mins, 32secs.

yeah I don't get it. And its funny that people are comparing floor textures on screen shots, when the bigger issue may be framerate issues on BOTH versions...LOL! I bolded "may" as sometimes I think reviewers obsess on that, but clearly IGN had issues with the framerate on both.

I'm with you two. Pre-ordered this a month or so ago and will pick it up after work (6 hours and counting).

I've been playing FPS type games since Wolfenstein and I think we're all getting carried away about frame rates and crap. At this point they all look pretty dang sweet. People get so tied up in specs that they forget that at a certain point the specs have a diminishing return in playability and enjoyment.

I can't wait to play this because I'm more into the tactical game play (some people call it boring and slow). See you all on PSN!

I think what's even funnier is that stock is being put into those shots (I mean, this is AVS, is it not? We're supposed to know better...LOL).

I just finished playing through the first one last night and there were some framerate issues, but othing that ever really bothered me. Couple of major slowdowns, especially toward the end, but nothing that made it unplayable. Maybe I'm just old-school and don't obsess over stuff like that. Unless the game completely stops and it's still fun, bring it on. Vegas was a blast for me (except for the second to last battle that had invisible "losing lines") so I think I'll enjoy 2 as well. Picking it up today!

EDIT: What Bugg said. Wolfenstein was awesome because it was fun. I never seemed to have an issue with the texture mapping at all...LOL!

Buy the freakin game! It is a blast, but I must add one caveat, you will lose connection to other players as the host or as a player because RB6-2 servers are having problems. Also, rooms will be available in the lobby (in TH only) but you will not be able to connect. In Coop story, two live players play with 2 AIs. Not as fun because I liked having all 4 live companions online. There is a versus mode for live team competition. The enemy AI are more aggressive like run down the freakin stairs at you and shoot you. It seems more challenging or I am just rusty. TH is really hard on realistic. New maps are kewl. I hope they fix the dropped connections or the game will be unplayable online. I would like the guns to have a little more pop in sound but i turned down music so it may help. Voice chat now has sensitivity control for voice activation. The really only bummer thus far other than dropped connections to host is that annoying ratatatatat sound of a machine gun that gets stuck and keeps firing. They should have fixed that by now. I love the game thus far and in versus mode against live people, I can see this having a long replay value.

I'm just looking forward to continuing the single player story. I'm assuming it picks from where part 1 left off, right? If not, then I might not pick it up.

I think it follows a different squad during the same crisis in Vegas. Eurogmaer said the story was short. It sounds like another expansion @ $60 like GRAW2.

1UP said that it follows events before, during and after the first Vegas. Should be interesting.

Just got it, have only been able to join 2 games in 30 mins. Both ended up booting me or were no longer available?? It was like I was moving in slow motion. I can't believe they have some of the same maps from RB6V1. That's total ********. So far I'm very disapointed and will be bangin on CoD4 tonight.

Hmmmm... wondering if we'll need to open up specific ports on our routers to make this a smoother online experience?

Things don't look good if the online portion is crap. I'll give it a try tonight and see what happens. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, this is Ubisoft's last chance with me. They've ruined they Splinter Cell franchise by putting out buggy software time and time again.
I too was able to join 2 games both ended abrutly and the game runs and looks horrible so far. Also the dreaded server full or at capacity is showing up alot even thought the list says they have empty slots.

Just played a couple hours of single player. I'm liking it. I love the PS Eye (scan your face) option. My kids were like "damn that does look like you!"

Playing COD4 for so long, I can't tell you how many times I go to crouch and end up killing myself with a grenade (crouch in COD = grenade in RB6). And you lose 50xp for each suicide.

Sorry to yakuza, mobius, a420king for not taking the invites. I didn't want to jump into MP until I got used to the controls. I'll be back on tonight to do some MP.

As far as ports, you are required to open the following per the manual:

Quote:

The game uses ports 3478, 3479, and 3658 (in UDP protocol) and ports 90, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480, 5233, and 8080 (in TCP protocol). So if you have a firewall, you must open these ports.

Ya, I just checked the manual and its says ports need to be changed. I'm not very router smart. How do you change the ports? I have 2 laptops in the house that are using wifi and the PS3 is wired with ethernet from same router as pcs. Do I change the ports on the router itself or the settings on the PS3? Is anyone else as pissed as me about some repeat maps?
Thanks

I just got back from Best Buy with the game. Still at work so haven't been able to play. However, looking at the User Guide it talks about forwarding certain ports just for the game so that you can host games more effectively. That may be what's happening. I do port forwarding for COD4 so I will probably just setup the same for RBV6 2.

See you guys on tonight... look out for me.

You have to open up new ports. However, they are having connection issues that will likely be patched. It seems like a server issue.

You open ports or forward ports in router IP. For example. Go to browser on PC and open IE. Type in the router IP. My Linksys is 192.168.1.1 or something like that. Your settings menu should pop up in browser. Now, go to gaming/applications and there you will find ports/UPnP. Open up the ports listed in manual of RB6-2. Cysquatch listed them above. The connection issues is not related to your ps3 or router. It is server related to software with regards to matchmaking. Of course they should have patched this already but the game was just released.

I think the game looks good on 1080p. I did not have any lag. It just would drop me after 20 minutes, which sucked because I had good teams in TH.
I played the game for like 60 minutes and already encountered like 6 bugs

if you try to open a door at the same time with a co-op player your models arm freaks out for the remainder of the game. Also joining a co-op match is very hit and miss with %80 connection errors so far. I never had\\have any connection problems with any other ps3 game.
Some nice features included in this offering...

-in game messaging from the XMB friend list.
-invite from list includes recently met players that can be invited to games. This helps overcome the 50 friend limitation.
-More search features for matches. Last time you pretty much selected game type and were matched up.
-I think the AI is more aggressive on the T Hunts.
-The maps seem to be pretty big with lots of pathways and hiding spots

Now if Ubi could fix the connection issues we'd be all set.

I from this moment forward will not purchase any Unreal engine game made by anybody especially Ubisoft on PS3. I got this game for online play and my experience so far has been horrible. Here are some nice features Ubisoft included exclusively for PS3:

-Game list displays open slots were there's none
-Click to join a game boots you to the XMB
-Low frame rates
-frequent freezing

Hopefully i can unlock more features like this as i play the game a little more.
If you dont care about online play it's ok, but other wise this game should be in the thrash. My brother has been playing the 360 version non stop with no problems. It is clear to me that the unreal engine is useless on the PS3 and yes i open all the ports. The fact that reviewers did mention any of these problems just shows that they dont want to upset any publisher and dont really care about the consumer. Sorry if i ranted too much but ive been playing games for 18 years and i have never experience such a horrible game product.

What do network errors have to do with the Unreal Engine?
Just about every Unreal Engine Powered game on PS3 have framerate, texture loading and other problems. It seems that Epic, the engine maker, is the only developer that can make a decent game with this engine. Games that use an engine made by developers themselves run beautifully on PS3. Oblivion, burnout, uncharted, COD4, resistance and the list goes on and on. Now look at Vegas 1, area 51, and countless others. Reports from endless developer hating the engine on ps3. Just for the hell of it heres a link from yet another dev hating the engine if you care to read.http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/03/14/...gine-problems/

Is well know this engine sucks on PS3. Even when they manage to ship the game, they have to compromise too much and it ends up a poor product. The Dark Sector engine written from scratch runs smoothly and it looks so much like the unreal engine that the Developers had to clarify that they built it from scratch.

Your brother is a lucky lucky man cause those problems are not PS3 exclusive. Ubisoft as usual rushed the game it seems. It has more bugs than features so far. But goddamn is it fun when it works. We have been playing terrorist hunt with three other friends and it is amazing fun. I hope they release a patch to fix all the issues soon.
