Hello all,

Thanks for all the posts people have given on dealing with the DST-MA bomb issue. I have an Onkyo 605 and my BD player is a PS3-80gb (the one just released this month). I still need to update my DSP.

I have tried using my PS3 (using the settings I've read on another post) to no avail, my PS2 (current smaller version), my Sammy DVD-HD950 DVD player and my LiteOn DVD-recorder to no avail. I have a friend who thinks he has a PSone around somewhere to use but has yet to find it. And so I seem to be out of luck on this update.

Any of you that has successfully updated their 605 with a PS3/PS2/Samsung 950 DVD player could you please post exact settings/changes you had to make on both the receiver and your "CD player" to get it to work? I burned the WAV file (as a CD track) on a standard CD-R with Ashampoo I believe it was, and I can play the CD and hear all the digital noise in the track so I know it is there.

I know my optical cable is good because I normally use it to output my rabbit-eared HD broadcast TV channel audio from my Tosh DLP back to the 605.

Or, does anyone out there have a bona fide CD player that worked in an update that I could borrow? I would repay you for your shipping and trouble.

Lastly, I have rented a few BD's for the weekend and they both support DTS-MA and they are not listed on the beginning post of this thread as being affected....Jumper and Be Kind Rewind...anyone know if they they have the bug?

I still think the 1st post should be kept updated since if someone new does have the bomb and then they go and search on the internet to see if there is an issue (like putting "The Eye" and "loud noise" or "bang" in their search engine) they are going to find this thread 95% easier than if the 1st post is NOT kept updated with all the "BOMB" movies

Just because WE here know about this issue what about all the newer folks who are not AVS members yet but have these receivers and are still in the dark

Dont we owe it to them to help them fix the issue with the link to this site and the DSP updates so they can fix it and not have it happen again and not think it was just a disc issue?

A perfect example of why we need post #1 updated with new titles found with DA BOMB for the guys like wideskreen who can get their units updated but still want to be safe

BTW, play the movie on your PS3 to be safe until you can update your DSPs and then you will still hear the cool DTS MA soundtrack (if you updated your PS3 lately) but wont have the risk of the bomb

Has Yamaha addressed this issue? I am using a RX-V4600 and just purchased a PS3. Don't need any expensive surprises while watching a movie

PS3 does not bitstream, so you are safe with the PS3.

So true so true, thanks Smarty-pants. If I get a player that will bitstream is there a update for Yamaha receivers that will fix this problem?

Then I guess I am confused. I thought this issue was also with PS3's.?! I know lots of BD's have Uncompressed PCM sound. But, I know the PS3 decodes DTS-MA inside the box and sends it to the 605, but I thought it was a DTS-MA error and not a bitstream.?

So the long and the short of it, if I use my PS3 as a BD player (which I do), then it is unaffected by the DTS-MA DSP bomb?

It's a DTS/MA error in the receiver. So since the PS3 decodes MA internally, it is unaffected. You are safe.

Yes there is one for the Yamaha A/V receivers.
I see that you are using the RX-V4600 model... Is that a new model? never heard of it.

rxv4600 does not decode dtshd or any new audio codecs. it uses hdmi 1.1

I too have had no luck updating the DSP. I've tried my PS3, a Sony CD player and an Onkyo CD player. All I can get is the receiver flashing updating . . . It never goes to "writing." Very frustrating. I've followed all of the instructions above for updating with the PS3, but with no luck. Perhaps my disc is not burned properly. Any other settings on the PS3 . I think I have the CD format set to AAc. Is this correct?

It is possible your cd is not burned properly. As a warning, do not use Windows Media Player... Use programs like Nero or Burn4Free. Make sure you burn it as an audio cd and not data. Use a regular CD player or if you use the PS3 do a search, people have posted settings for it.

Update: Got the 605 update to work on the PS3 by burning a new CD using Burn4Free. Many thanks to ddgtr!!!

my pioneer 91-txh is still making the loud static noise throughout bd's as i have reported in the past. my latest two problem discs were the uk bd of the assembly and the korean bd of taegukgi. i emailed pioneer again about this, i doubt that they will be of any help again.

Holy Moly! Tae Guk Gi is out on BD. What's the PQ & AQ like? I assume they are DTS-MA if they are crackling.

they are both dts-ma. the picture on taegukgi is great and the dd 5.1 track is solid. i did not have any problems with the dts-ma on the hk bd of the assembly, only the uk bd.

I am going to get a yamaha rx663. Does this affect this reciever and if so how do I prevent it from happening?

No bomb on the DTS-MA track of "UFO: Showtime" (HD-DVD), which is BTW superior to the TrueHD track on the same disc (more balanced mix, less "in your face"), that's why I took the risk to listen to it on my unpatched Onkyo 805 1.01 FW.
It's the only HD-DVD disc with DTS-MA that I have, and I use a PS3 for Blu-Ray, so I don't see the need to upgrade my Onkyo and lose my Audyssey settings.

Well as one of the 1st ones to confirm this BOMB issue, I finally got around to fixing my own setup

I have not ever had any problems with dts-HD MA (nor Dolby TrueHD or Multichannel PCM) from any HD DVD or Blu-ray disc with my Yamaha 663. I don't believe it needs any updates for these hi-rez formats. My Onkyo 605 has had the DSP update applied and now it is also is free from any dts-HD MA issues.

I did the dsp update on my 805 today all went well however i can not dot he fw update as my uploader is ver 1.00/07502L

just a side note.. i tried the update with a 2005 sacd player and it would not work. i connected the toslink cable to my bd30 and it sent the new fw fine.

Arrrg! i have waiting 2 weeks to get my 805 back from circuit city where i sent it in so they could do the firmware and dsp updates. cc told me last week that it was enroute(on the 26th of june) here it is july7 and it still hasnt arrived and i only live a 1 hour drive from walnut ca. where it was sent.I have a bad feeling they lost it. cc keepd telling me it should be there soon.

BTW anyone else send yours in to do the updates? and how long did it take to get yours back? The reson i took mine to circuit city was because i have the 5 year warranty and they told me they thought they could do this for me,and that if they couldnt they would send it to onkyo for me so they could do the updates. nan i really miss having my receiver.

Tested the Sony 820 with Fant 4 and no DTS bomb. But be aware that some posters have reported that the F4 Cat # 2239585 (which I have) does not exhibit the DTS bomb so this test is not conclusive. Unfortunately it is the only BR DTS MA disc on the reported list in my possession.

Insignia BR player HDMI>820 HDMI> Vizio GLF52 at 1080p.

That said I do not think the new Sony line, 820/920 suffer this problem.

Have played 7 BR discs with DB, DB uncompressed PCM/DB TrueHD and DTS MA and experienced faultless performance from the BR player and the 820. No pops, no dropouts in video or audio and generally excellent video with 5th element producing noticeably the sharpest image.

I have made 4 update discs and none seem to work. Do I contact Onkyo directly to arrange to have the unit returned for the update? When I go on their site I can't seem to find any mention of this problem. I'm lost as to what to do next.
