What's the best LCD HDTV for XBox360 gaming???

I'm still stuck with a 480p standard definition TV.

I'd like to hear from people who have a LCD HDTV (I'd also like to know what resolution it's in and if there's a huge difference between 720 and 1080p). I'm currently shopping for a "42-"46 HDTV that looks great for TV and movies but especially with XBox360 games.

I think you'll be happy gaming on any lcd. The important factor is response time, but most sets will be acceptable in this area.

Take a look at the usual Samsungs, Sony's, and maybe the underrated Mitsubishi's

I would focus on a 120Hz panel over 1080p, although you'll notice the difference over 720p if you either sit close to the set or own a large screen (typically 50 inches or larger).

Remember, most Xbox 360 games are technically rendered at 720p internally (or sometimes less); they're just upscaled to 1080p when you enable the option on the console. They can look better than raw 720p but won't look as good as a true 1080p source.

Are you saying that a 720p game looks better on a 720p TV rather than a 1080p set which is set to 720p??? I'm sorry if I misinterpreted you.

360 is designed for 720p... Many of those games get upscaled pretty badly if you have a 1080p tv.

I wouldn't say that - just that you won't see as much benefit as you'd think. Upscaling is more to clean up the 720p image than to add detail.

The 360 renders the game at 1280 x 720, and then a scaling chip converts that to whatever your TV wants. Basically 720p or 1080p doesn't matter for the 360.

A lot of LCDs have issues with gaming vs a CRT or plasma, or even a rear projection. You might look at the new Samsungs (550 & 650 series) that are 4/5 ms refresh. Lower refresh helps for gaming.

I'd like to know whether or not motion blur/lag is overstated or if it's a distraction.

I've heard some people with LCD's say that their picture is flawless while some bash the LCD's by saying it lags/trails/blurs a lot during fast motion video game sequences.

I love the 360 on my 52" Aquos...no motion blur, ghosting, or antyhing else that I can see. Have it calibrated, then go to town!

I currently have my Xbox 360 Elite displayed on a PT-AX200U Panasonic Home Theater Projector. This thing is a light cannon. I have a considerable amount of light entering my room and this thing gets so bright it still makes me squint from time to time. It has a gaming mode that makes games look better (enhanced shadow detail) and reduces the delay to get the gameplay image to the screen (when I die playing Halo 3 online, it really is because I suck, not just because the image on my display is lagging behind the action).

This thing could easily do well on a screen up to 200 inches. I have mine set up on a 92 inch screen and with all those extra lumens on that size a screen, it literally makes my eyes hurt sometimes because it is so bright. I got my projector and screen for less than $1800 total and that is for an image more than three times the size of a low end $3000 50 inch plasma!!!

I have noticed that people rarely consider projectors for their television/movie/gaming display, but the reasons are usually not based in fact. You should seriously check this out prior to making a decision on another display.

Here are a couple of review sites for this projector:

Ummm...I'm asking about LCD's, not projectors.

What's the best, high quality LCD under $2500??? I'm thinking 1080p and at least 46 inches. (maybe 42 inches)
You need to look at the new Toshiba xf550 (out now)and xv540's (out in a few weeks). 1080P, 120hz and game modes

I'm getting quoted $2650 (delivered) for the 52 inch from a forum sponser! 42-46 a lot lower.

Also, matte screen...go read the xf550 thread.

I may have to reduce my budget slightly.

I may be working on a budget of nothing above 1800 bucks.

What excellent LCD's can I find for that?

It sounds like you are not interested in projectors because of the fact that it is a "projector". Projectors use LCD and DLP technology (for the most part). The Projector I recommended is an LCD projector.

If it is just the LCD thing that is deterring you, then you probably want to know that this is an LCD projector, but if there is something inherently deterring about the fact that the image is projected onto a screen, then you may not be interested.

I hope this information was helpful.

It's a no brainer... The two best brands right now are the Samsung 120Hz models, or a Toshiba Regza. Between those two, the X360 will definitely look phenomenal on either one.

For that budget, it's easy to recommend Samsung, since most of their LCDs are backed by Microsoft as perhaps the choice of panel for the Xbox 360, atm. Also, I believe that Sharp introduced a gaming LCD lineup of their Aquos line, you might want to look through those.

You're helpful but projectors aren't the route that I'm wanting to take.

I have a Panasonic PT-AX200u projector hooked up to a PS3/360/Wii and its amazing looking.

I know were talking about LCDs, which brings me to my point. The projector was not that great looking in the day (I dont have my great room 100% light controlled) so I just hooked up a Toshiba Regza 46" 1080P (46RF350 i think) and bought another 360 and PS3 (for blu-ray) for the Family room for my wife to watch during the day, and the projector for nights or when we have a lot of people over for UFC fights

Let me tell you- The Toshiba Regza is the nicest display I have EVER seen.. and I have a few HD sets, and have seen a lot. My neighbor has a Pioneer Elite series plasma and he even said he couldnt believe how nice the picture was.. games are AMAZING. I wish my projector could look this clean and bright. The picture is so bright it hurts your eyes and you have to turn it down.. no lie. I was comparing Sony's, Sharp Aquos, Samsungs, etc and the Regza is the best! Plus the slim bezel looks like a big computer monitor...

Also motion blur is better than any LCD ive seen (you cant compare to a Plasma or CRT) for games

Sounds good.

The best LCD that I've EVER seen the Sony Bravia XBR5. The 52 inch model looks so mindblowing that words can't fully describe it. I watched the Bourne Ultimatum on it and there was so much detail yet no motion blur whatsoever. If there's no motion blur on Bourne (especially during the epic fight/chase scenes) then there's none at all.

If I had the money, I'd buy it. No questions asked.

Sony's are awesome no doubt in my mind. Still they are just way overpriced

Any of you folks with LCD tv experience a slight lag when playing fighting games like Tekken or Virtual Fighter?
