LG 42LG50 NEW MODELS due out next - What's the scoop?

Thread Starter
I'm seeing new LG models due out next week at retail outlets but can't seem to find any information about them - not even on LG's web site. What am I missing!?
We have them here at Best Buy. I was checking them out and what I know so far is:
The 42" has 12,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and 5ms response time. The color brightness is like 500 or 600 or something like that. Pretty generic for the color brightness but the response time and dynamic contrast are pretty stellar for that TV.

The LG50 is 1080P and the LG30 is 720P.

I believe the starting price/MSRP is $1699.

The LG30 is $1299.

Yes, there is something at LG's Web site - on their home page there is a box proclaiming "The new HDTVs are coming!" which takes you through to a flash-infested presentation. Most of it is marketing fluff but it does show a very brief spec for each series though I can't really tell what's different between the LG60 and LG70 series. The design of the LG60 with the huge bottom bezel panel with a hole in it looks umm, weird.

Some of the presentation talks about THX Cinema and then 180Hz for Sports Mode but for which models is a mystery.
The 70 series has back-lit LEDs and the 50" is the only model, the 60 is the series I'm interested in if it were available at BB, it is rather unusual looking with its red back and edge, not sure if it has an actual hole in the front, maybe a design feature repeated on the back

NOPE... go here New LG HDTVs and check it out. The only model with LED backlight is the LG75 and it comes in only a 46.9" diagonal screensize, which LG calls '50" class', with the same chassis/bezel as the LG70s. There is no mention of LED backlight for the LG70 series and the only obvious difference between the LG60 and LG70 specs is the availability of Wi-Fi for the LG71 model and the weird LG60 bezel... which looks awfully like it has a hole all the way through. From the pics, it looks like ALL the new models have a red-colored rear panel. I'm still curious about the 180Hz Sports Mode... as to which models have it.

Any news on these new releases in Canada? They sound promising...Just bought a 42" LG 2 days ago and so far so good minus a few little issues (hopefully they stay little) 42lb5d.

Sports mode has my interest perked..dang...keep posting updates if you get them..appreciate it..I'll do the same, but stuck in Canada so we'll probably get them in year 2020..grr..yes, sarcasm
post #7 of 24
Yes the LG75 has the LED, at the moment only the LG50 is available at BB and coming soon to CC, there is quite a price difference between the LG50 47" and the 52" at BB.
Just spoken to LG customer service and it seems the LG60 series will be out in about a months time and will go on sale at BB, CC et al.

I just got a bunch of info on the new LG screens. We should be seeing most of them next month and the 70's in late May early June. It is going to be a competitive market this year.

May/June. That sounds promising, thanks for the heads up.

Before I called I also emailed them and the reply stated that while there is no fixed release date for the LG60 it could be before the end of the month

Sure, ask away.. I will track the thread.. I can answer most questions if not I wil l get an answer straight from LG for you.

http://electrolineelectronics.com/_i...spec_sheet.pdf

This is the offical PDF Spreadsheet, and I will go over the new features in brief..

• Full HD 1080p Resolution
• 15,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio - These are just getting higher, 15,000! This is the number of shades from black to white, the TV can display, the higher the number, the more distinct shades.
• 3x HDMI™ V.1.3 with Deep Color - 3 with new DEEP COLOR, so get some decent HDMI Cables!
• Intelligent Sensor - Will adjust the panel for power use, and perfect lighting.
• AV Mode (Cinema, Sports, Game) - you can use LG's pre-programmed settings, or go custom.
• Clear Voice - Adjust the volume so you can hear the vocals and not just explosions in the background.
• LG SimpLink™ Connectivity- for use with the BH200 or any LG audio/video device.
• Invisible Speaker System- LG's new 2008 line has narrow thin bezels and/or thin frames with minimal speakers showing.
• USB 2.0 (JPEG, MP3)
• ISFccc - Set your TV to the Industry Science Foundations color settings, these TV's are color calibration ready.

Ok, right now, I am waiting for this model (42LG50) to come in, since I am going to be exchanging my Toshiba 42RV530U for it (as long as it works ok, unlike the 42LB5D).

But I can't seem to find the info on it that I am looking for, such as:
xvYCC support?
10-bit panel?
Colour gamut (% of NTSC)?

Does anybody know about any of these?

I tried calling LG and the call center people had less info than I have.

Thanks

This is the model I want:

http://electrolineelectronics.com/_i...spec_sheet.pdf

The only thing is that these specs just don't look right, it's worse than the 32lg60 model which should be the case, also it doesn't have 120Hz yet can somehow display 3:2 and 5:5(theorietically 5:5 only works with 120Hz). Well hopefully these pages show that the models aren't far off.

Some info for all you Canadians - future shop has the 42lg50 for 1599.99 - http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail- I know is a good price but that is still too much for me

How quickly do these new TV's go on sale? - a month or two? - or longer...

Hi,
I'm having a LG 37" LCD, watching SD cable (no digital), the PQ is quite good to me, it has a HORIZON aspect ratio which help stretch part of R/L sides to fill the screen in 16:9 ratio, which I like.
I am thinking to upgrade to 42LG50, in the manual, it does not have Horizon
aspect ratio but have JUST SCAN, anybody knows about this function?
Thanks

sorry chief, the 120mhz begins with the next size up, 37 inches (37LG60). this will be the first display under 40 inches to feature the 120mhz.

is your model the 720P or the 1080P (37LG50) ?

with regard to your query, JUST SCAN provides 1:1 pixel mapping, meaning it scales perfectly without stretching.

Thanks Mindoculus,
I have an old model of LG tv (37LC3D), really like that Horizon aspect ratio .
I will get to the store to check out this 42lg50 to see if it's good for SD cable signal....

I have the 37lg50 (just got it yesterday) and I don't see any horizon aspect ratio as an option.

I just bought this TV a few days ago also, and the stand wobbles a lot. Also, there is a lot of backlight bleeding. It's difficult to watch dark movies because of the white edges. Did you notice any issues with your set?

Does it have a good scaler ? is the SD signal nice to watch ?
Thanks

Just got the 37LG50 for my bedroom today from Best Buy, coupled with a PS3 for $100 off the pair. I have the full Dish HD package and its connected by component since its the older HD receiver with DVI and it looks great. BTW, this is my second PS3, the other is on my 4 year old RPCRT Hitachi Ultravision. Best Buy initially gave me a LG30 by mistake and I caught it just before I opened it. And for those interested, they did have the 37LG50 on display. Anyway, I did a lot of research before purchase. I was initially going to go with the Series 5 Sammy but there were reports that there was some rattle from the hidden speakers. I actually did notice that with the LG after I turned the bass up some. My aunt and uncle just got a 52" Sammy series 6 and the thing is magnificent, including the simulated surround, the best I have heard. The LG50 surround is not as good, but while playing Call of Duty 4, it did sound like there were speakers behind me. Anyway, I also researched Sharp, JVC, Panasonic and Toshiba 37" LCDs and came up with this LG. Again, the picture is great, I am watching Sinemax late night on it right now. Skin tones are perfect and blacks seem rich. I watched Transformers earlier and it looked great too. Brand Smart, a local discounter in GA and Fl is just about to get the LG60, but the picture is so good on the LG50, I did not think it was worth $300 MORE.
