It is a mandatory part of the HDDVD spec. If you can author an HDDVD with those MLP files I sspect it will play.

There is no mention of MLP support anywhere in the manual - Dolby TrueHD is heavily based on MLP but that doesn't mean automatic support for the codec.

MLP is just a Lossless compression format that DVD-A and TrueHD both happen to use. The formats otherwise are very different.

Question guys!

I searched for an answer in both threads and didn't find an answer.

Last week I bought a new BH200 and imediately updated tot he June firmware and driver. When I sent Transformers DD+ bitstreamed to my Marantz AV8003, I got the "helicopter" sound really bad. I had the player set to passthrough on HDMI. It works fine when I put it on "DTS Re-encode" but this downrez's DTS-HD MA as well.

I previously had a BH200 with April firmware, and I don't recall that problem. I just took the new one back that I bought last week (returned to CC for the much better BB deal) today, and am preparing to update the firmware. I am leary to use the June firmware for this player, because I don't want to repeat the problem!

Oh, to complicate things, when I had the first player in May with April firmware, I was using an Integra DTC 9.8 processor. Now I have the Marantz.

Help me out, as I want to update right away for a movie tonight!

Thanks!

You can revert to older firmwares. If the June firmware has the issue and the April doesn't, then just go back to the April version.

FWIW, one of my BH200s is connected to my Denon AVR-3808CI and I don't get the helicopter noise with DD+. My other two BH200s aren't connected to receivers.

Have you heard of this problem before?

I actually returned that unit today, and picked up a fresh one from BB. Just want to know if anybody has even heard of that before. I may try the April firmware, and run with that for a while. Then if I have any problem disks I can give the June firmware a shot.

Anybody else have anything they want to add?

Sure, I've heard of the helicopter noise before, but I've never personally heard it. I think I read somewhere that BH200-Denon AVR combos don't encounter the problem; I know I never have. I also have no idea whether firmware affects it; your post seemed to indicate that it did.

Thanks! I just updated, did June firmware on the new player since I can still go back to April firmware. I will let you know what happens...
the other thing is he went from an Integra DTC 9.8 Receiver to a Marantz. so cant be sure its the firmware or the switch in receivers or both...

Come to think of it...I don't have the helicopter noise with the Denon 3808 like I had it with the onkyo 605 and I am still running the april f/w. I also noticed that the Denon is able to decode dd true hd for HDDVD version of happy feet while the 605 could not.
I found the "bugs" thread that the helicopter sound or "motorboating" is a commonly known bug in this player. It appears not to properly stream DD+ causing some receivers not to be able to recognize that stream. My processor recognizes it as 192hz Stereo.

It does not affect just Marantz, but also some Onkyo and Pioneer receviers, from what I could see.

The current workaround is to have the player decode all formats, but switch it to bitstream when I am going to watch a DTS-HD MA track on a Blu-Ray.

Not perfect...

Does anybody know how to roll back a driver to 0701??
It's very unpredicatble though.

There are people who have reported it with their BH200 connected to an Onkyo 705, yet I have the same setup, and have never experienced it.

Agreed. I have mine hooked to an Onkyo 605 and it's perfect.

Me either.

I just picked up this player and am trying to update to to the latest version but it is showing up as the 402F version on the LG site.

Is the June update still available?

I got it - for some reason it does not show up if you chose Vista as your operating system when you do the search on the LG site..

i just got this player trying to download newest firmware.after i download the zip file what do i unzip it to to burn it.im having problems.i have windows vista
post #1279 of 2810
It's easier to just unzip it, and COPY the file to a thumb(USB) drive, put the thumb drive in the front right USB slot(behind the little door), and fire it up...
It'll ask you if you want to update to XXX file, just click yes and it will take about 5 minutes.

No need to do anything but COPY the file to a thumb drive or a CD/DVD, do NOT burn as an iso.

Yes it was very easy. I picked up one from BestBuy today(March 2008 build date). The first thing I did was a firmware update and putting it on a USB drive made it easy and very quick since I didn't have to bother with burning a disc.

When I downloaded the firmware I chose the one that said for VISTA and it was 402F.

I got the newest firmware yesterday and I used the Vista option...love being able to update via USB. So damn easy.

So far Ive watched 4 Blu-ray discs and 2 DVDs and not a single dropout of any kind. Excellent player.

I don't know why they do the Vista/XP thing at all.
0402 looks like the April Firmware.
0620 is the June firmware.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Vista folks DL the 0620 FW(under ALL, or 2000/XP) and copy it to a USB drive without issue.

I see the 620 now. I didn't even look at that since it didn't say anything about the US.

I LOVE my BH200 player!

(sorry folks, I just had to blurt )

It's done everything promised and more. Best dual format player in my opinion.

Thumbs up LG - I think it's a sad reflection on other brands that even some NEW single former players cannot do 7.1 DTS and THD decoding, let alone at a lower price than this player.

LG rocks..

Not to mention that they have given SOLID continued support for this player, unlike some other manufacturers (ahem) who seem to believe that DF player owners somehow ceased to exist in 2008...

Well done LG.

The 402F Firmware is the older April firmware. You want the June firmware (080620 - 06/24/08).

Ignore what Windows version is listed (2000, XP, Vista), it means absolutely nothing. The file you download works on any Computer (PC or Mac), as long as it has a USB Port or CD/DVD Drive.

They're trying to help users who assume it matters but in reality they just confuse people.

Correct. 0620 translates to June 20th, 0402 translates to April 2nd.

Correct. The Windows versions mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. It won't matter if you use Windows, Linux or MAC OS.

It wouldn't matter if you used an Amiga, as long as it has a CD/DVD Drive. The CD/DVD format is universal on all computers since time began (well pretty much).

Again that's just to confuse people. Why the April firmware says "US, Canada Only" is anyone's guess, they've not added that for any other firmware (so why add it for the April firmware???). Again it's rubbish.

All BH200 firmware works with any BH200 bought world-wide. This has been confirmed many times by users.

Download the June (0620) firmware. It's virtually identical to the April firmware but you may as well upgrade to the latest one.

Where can I find info on the picture settings for this machine? My first impression is BD looks terrible compared to my PS3.

Turn off Qdeo, turn off Mosquito NR, etc... then turn down brightness a few click, and it looks much better.

Further testing confirms to me, though, that the PS3 still looks better and sounds better.

BTW, I currently own three BH200s! I owned one before, and sold it for that reason exactly. But I did so before really getting opinions here, and some suggested the changes I just mentioned. I was very dissapointed with black levels, and those changes helped. The PS3 just looks richer, and more 3d.

I think I may hear the swan's song for my HD-DVD collection though, and the PS3 may regain its position as the sole source unit in my HT.

Does it look soft? What makes its PQ inferior to your PS3?
