Just a sarcastic jab, which is likely true indeed.

I was aware, an was agreeing with you.

LG is PATHETIC, the fact that ANY Disney stuff doesn't work on BH200 is UNACCEPTABLE.

I have the latest firmware version on my BH200 and UP is unplayable. "IF" it shows anything after start up it's the little dog as a wait screen. I stared at black for minutes upon minutes and when the menu tried to come up it froze up.

I disabled the internet connection and re-intialized the system as well and no dice.

I had to dust off my PS3 to watch the movie.

Another option is to re-install an earlier firmware version. My BH200 played Up with the December 2008 firmware release (BH02081205A).

I did get a handful of minor audio dropouts but the entire movie played fine. (I haven't tried the special features disc yet.)

I'll have to try that out...Thanks!

Until UP I think I've only had one issue with the BH200 playing a disc. Outside of that it's worked flawlessly for me.

I just got "Heat, "Up", and "Monsters Inc." from Amazon and "Heat" and "Monsters Inc." worked just fine with the June 2009 firmware, but "Up" failed to start. It eventually loaded a partial menu, but even after selecting "play movie", it never actually started the movie. I guess I'll have to revert to an earlier firmware too...

I don't really care, I don't care about BD-Live anyway. Every Blu-Ray should be like "Heat". It just starts immediately into the movie.

I've mosty been using my HTPC for Blu Ray now and have had no problems with BD Live or any disk. However I still have the BH 200 and first tried Snow White. It would not play! I then down graded the firmware to Mar or April 09 (the one after Dec 08) and Snow White plays fine, but Open season that used to play on the same firmware before I upgraded now does not play even with the down grade! I use the BH 200 only for my 2 1/2 year daughter so it's not a huge deal, BD doesn't work, just put in the DVD!

But if this were my only player I would be disappointed for sure. It's the best DVD upconverter I've ever owned and I got a bunch of excellent HD DVD movies for less than $ 2 each. In fact I sold many DVDs and got HD DVDs so that I could use this player. Now I am not sure it will survive much longer....a pity since this is a pretty good CD, DVD and HD DVD player...only wish it wasn't so flaky with Blu Rays.

I'd rather for the disc to start at the menu. If I wanted the movie to start as the first option I would just get the digital download.

I'm sticking with my March 2009 firmware, which works with everything... including Snow White, Up, etc.

BD-Live is probably BD-Dead for all those that begged for it on this machine.

Most of my Disney titles work on my BH200 with the BDLive firmware. Even Monsters Inc, which just came out works fine. Although UP doesn't work.

I'm caerainly very pleased with LG. they gave me $225 for my three BH200 players and then they added BD-Live anyway.
Disney made a change in how they author their titles that doesn't work with that firmware. At some point LG will fix what Disney broke. But otherwise I have no complaints with LG.

I'll probably pick up a BD370 if I can find one on sale. I've been very pleased with my BD390 unit. And I might try to sell one of my BH200 units since I still have 2.75 years left on the BestBuy warranty so it should be good if I do sell it.

Yeah, with the rebate I have around $125 into each of my BH200 players. I was so impressed with the first one I bought a second one for the den and to have as a backup. I've never had a single playback issue on either, but I use the BH200 for import blu-ray, of which I have quite a few. I rent most US blu-rays, and for those my workhorse is a Smasung BD-P2500. As I obviously can't rent foreign blu-ray releases, I buy more of them. Another thing the BH200 is excellent at is upconverting PAL European DVDs to 1080p/50, which my Panasonic PT-AE2000 projector handles perfectly. This week I watched both the Gone with the Wind blu-ray and My Fair Lady PAL DVD I picked up from Amazon UK for £4. While GwtW is excellent, on my 100" screen you really have to look closely to see the detail difference between the two.

Also, I recently bought Transformers 2 Imax Walmart version. I naturally started watching it on the Samsung 2500, but kept getting video pauses and stutters. I popped it in my BH200, and it played perfectly. I'm sold on LG and the BH200.

Up and every other title I have tried have worked fine on mine with what I believe is the March firmware. I could not get the latest firmware to take properly and finally gave up trying. Looks like giving up worked for once.

I am moving to Europe and have been looking for info on how to play US BR disks there. Did some research on the BH200 and found this price on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/LG-BH200-Super.../dp/B000YB2IPK

Yikes.

I'm sure there are some here that would sell you theirs for 1/2 of that price ...which is still probably 2x what they paid.

Got to be a misprint or some totally inept Amazon partner merchant. A Google price check supports this.

That's a deal, I'll take 5!

Is there another LG model or other brand that I can use or hack into or the BH200 it IT?

Simply need BD that plays both N. American and European disks. I have couple of hundred PAL DVD's here in the States and use Phillips DVD player that plays both NTSC and PAL formats and it works great. Here and there I get one that doesn't play (like 1 in 20 and it is usually Region ALL). I do not have any European BD yet, but expect to own some in the future.

In an attempt to have some offending titles having their content root menus working correctly, I downloaded and installed the latest firmware (BH02090630A 2009-06-30) in my BH200.

Now, not only do the same titles still not display the root menu correctly but I am also experiencing some image dropouts, something that didn't happen before.

Does anyone know where I can get the previous firmware (BH02080402F - 2008-04-02) so I can install it back?

TIA

Try the Momitsu BD player, which is being prominently advertised on the side/top of the forums.

There are other players with non-OEM HW/FW mods to configure region-free BD and/or DVD playing. But YMMV, and I've not tried any of them myself.

If you want to be able to play those Disney flicks as well as anything else properly (I have even been having lock ups with DVD's now with the new firmware)..stick with the March 2009 firmware. My hope is that they release a patch without the Live support and one with to give you the option. Or at least a way to disable the feature to stop the lockups.

You can get the March 09 firmware at the link below. I have used every release and find it to be the best available.

If you do not need the HD DVD capability, get an Oppo BDP-83 with a hardware mod kit (or get the player and the mod kit separately and install it yourself - it's really easy). The added bonus is, that this unit does have a universal power supply and you wont need an external transformator to use it with 220V like you do with the LG. Oh yes: it also plays PAL DVDs quite nicely...

Plus, the Oppo plays SACD and DVD Audio (if you need that).

Best regards,
Oliver

Thank you so much Bob!

I will give this one a try.

All the best.

Do you guys have many BR titles with Root/Main menus that don't load properly and seem to be totally inaccessible on the BH200?

I am getting more and more of these (Region B).

It's really quite frustrating having to navigate skipping chapter to chapter to finally get to where I want in specific disc.

I was looking at the Oppo, but was not sure if it plays PAL BD. I know it plays the regular DVD's and I have Phillips for that.

What is the hardware mod kit and where can I get it?

Shinksma, thanks. I know I could buy the Momitsu, but I've never heard of them and everything I read / hear about Oppo is exceptional, so Oppo would be the preferred choice.
