It does this both on standard DVDs and standard-def content on HD-DVDs; oddly it plays Blu-Rays properly and since it's region-free I'll keep it just for that but will use other players for my HD and standard DVDs.
What standard def content on HD-DVD are you referring to? I have 1.33:1 content on HD-DVD (Casablanca) that the BH200 outputs properly, but only because it was authored/mastered in 1080P with the side bars incorporated into the 16:9 formatting.
The stretching of 1.33:1 content on standard DVD is annoying. I have to change the BH200's output resolution over HDMI to 480P and then use the format control on my Panny plasma to restore the correct 4:3 aspect ratio. This is the only way I can view the content without losing picture information on the sides, which occurs when the output from the BH200 is either 720P or 1080I/P. Fortunately most of my viewing is 16:9 format, but this should have been an easy fix for LG and taken care of quite a while back.
What was released on HD-DVD in standard def
? Not aware of any US HD-DVD's in SD. Were these imports?
