Yeah I know. I was just thinking about the backdoor your LG contact mentioned. And about all the unexpected functionality this firmware provided.

The Australian version of the BH100 was apparently multiregion for BD on release, though this may have been "fixed" with a firmware "update" since then.

How is the upconversion in these things? I have seen many regular HD upconverting players that looked pretty good, was wondering if these were half way descent still.

Have to admit this is a very exciting development! I've been looking for a combo player that would pass bitstream and do Bonus View at a minimum and this seems to be the player. Will be interesting to hear other's reactions in this thread.

StardustOne, I assume you are bitstreaming to the Denon (ie. decoding in 4308)?

The dvd upconversion is outstanding.......I have had the REON equiped Samsung 1200 and the Samsung 5000 (very recently) in my system.

The Qdeo equiped Lifes Good BH200 exceeds the performance of the Sammy REON equiped units..........on my TV, a Sony KDS-60A2020, the dvd picture on the LG is much more natural.........great depth and color and sharpness...the REON was nice too....but, I noticed some slight jagged edges and a digital, less film-like looking picture. I did compare both the REON Samsung and the LG Qdeo to my Denon 2910. The 2910 does not show jaggies or digitalness like the REon but it is completely outclassed by a REON and Qdeo as far as picture depth, color intensity, sharpness.

To me, and I am 100% sure, the Qdeo is noticibly better than the REON Samsung units with dvd.

Does it support 1080p24?

Yes with the new firmware!

Can someone send me the firmware in a PM so I can unzip it? I just can't get it to work and I want to use a CD to do the update. Or maybe provide a link to where we can get it?

I found a bonus guys! I watched Dan in real life last night with no drop outs but that wasn't the best part. The best option for audio was 5.1 uncompressed. I chose that setting and actually got 7.1 PCM uncompressed!!! So it appears that not only is there a hidden track of standard DD or DTS that someone mentioned earlier but some disks seem to also have upgraded hidden tracks as well.

The file is like 37mb so I think an email is out of the question. Do you have a zip program? If not, you can download a few trial programs for free.

Just use some online sharing site e.g. megaupload.com etc.

Sorry guys, just a little confused here.... All I want to know is if this new firmware does the following:
A) Send a true 1080P/24 to the TV. (Some people have already said yes!!) Is it true? Does anyone have a 120Hz or 72hz Pioneer that this can be tested on.

B) Internally decode DD True Hd and DTS MA, and sends it as Multi Channel PCM in 5.1 or 7.1 to a 1.1 or 1.2 HDMI receiver? (NOT a 1.3 receiver that allows bitstreaming) just in case someone gets confused.

A) Sorry do not have a 24p capable display.

B) Yes, the BH200 sent DTS-HD MA 5.1 and DD THD 5.1 transcoded to LPCM to my HDMI v1.3 AVR so it should work with a v1.1 AVR as well. I could not tell the difference between raw and transcoded audio. Yeah, it was that good, tested with Kingdom of Heaven. Also my AVR identified the raw audio as 7.1 even when I disable processing, which freaked me out a little because the disc is only 5.1. I am going to play with it some more tonight to see why that is.

So, if I understand you correctly hawkeye, you were testing/sending DD THD & DTS MA (decoded internally by the BH 200) via HDMI, to your AVR HDMI 1.3, as a MUltichannel PCM signal correct ? And it worked perfectly in 5.1 or 7.1.
I also assume you bitstreamed both of these codecs and your receiver decoded them correctly, lighting up the DD THD & DTS MA lights on your receiver.

Yes that's true, I just watched the Renaissance HD DVD and my Denon AVR-4308 decoded the DTS HD 5.1 sound from the English track (the German one is DTS HD Master Audio, worked too).

Although I had two audio and video dropouts with this movie, one just after a few minutes after play back started, the 2nd one in the middle of the movie.

Not even the price, really. Like many people, I've been waiting until LG released the firmware before I got the BH200. With that done, I ordered mine yesterday for about $575 total, including s&h. Considering there are plenty of old, profile 1.0 Blu-ray players out there still going for $450+, I think that's a MORE than fair price.

I know others have said this before, but I just have to say again KUDOS to LG! I think, for an international compancy with a lot of product diversity, they've done a great job with the BH200 and all of us here on the forums.

Thanks for the clarification. I was going to get a Marantz 7002 until I found out it did not matrix 5.1 DTS-MA to 7.1, so now on to Denon...

On the HD DVD side, HDi does not work as seemlessly as the Tosh players. For instance, calling the disc menu stops the movie like a DVD instead of bring it up in front of the movie.

Net connectivity not working atm.

Those are the only downers I've noticed so far.
