Are you serious? I had no idea these were issues with this player. I see that as a major downside as the HDi menus seem to be instant improvement that most SD DVD viewers notice, not to mention I really enjoy being able to access the menus while the movie is still playing.

Really? I wasn't aware this was an issue with this player. Does the BD-UP5000 suffer from the same problems?

Where do you look in the bh200 menus to see what firmware is loaded? I think I updated with the correct one but I want to be sure.

bradavon, HDi may not always work the same since I believe both Samsung and LG are using a "home brew" version of it, not the official from Microsoft. This could casue difference, but for the most part it should be seamless. I remember a long time ago an insider confirmed that neither LG nor Samsung were using their own versions to implement the interactive features.

LG calls theirs "Advanced Interactivity"
Samsung calls theirs (Hmmm cant find it now, Samsung lists it as HDi, but I dont think its official)

I don't see these issues at all. My menus show up during playback of HD DVDs just fine. The only thing I notice is that the animations are a lot choppier than on my A35.

I installed the latest firmware via usb device with a MAc. I was able to do the update... Here's the deal.

The Display is now 1080/24P-although I did not see the "other" option as film mode??

I dont have audio or video drop outs

BUT-I cannot bitstream DD+ DD true HD and DTS HD.

Did the MAC have anything to do with it??

What gives? I played with the audio settings already but to no avail. Please Help.

No, the fact that you put the firmware onto a flash drive via a Mac has nothing to do with what you're experiencing with the firmware. Either it would work or it wouldn't, and if the firmware was somehow "changed" in transport it would most likely result in a bricked player, but certainly not missing features.

I just got the BH200 yesterday. Should I just return the player then,and get a new one or try downloading the file using a PC(as you said there's no difference). In the audio settings I have it as Pass thru. I am running hdmi to an onkyo 605 so it should bitstream but it doesnt

Are you positive you have the 0314B f/w. Because LG pulled that build and put the 0124R build on their website yesterday. 0124R fixes playback issues but does not provide the audio upgrades.

Quickest way to check is to look under Other in the Setup Menu. If there is an option for Network Update, then you have 0314B, if not, you are running 0124R.

I downloaded the firmware at 830 central last night. No, there is no option for network update. So it seems that I am running the 0124R firmware then. Is there a reason why LG pulled it out of their site? And where can I obtain THE FIRMWARE as I am having a hard time with megaupload. How do I download from there???

Please pardon my ignorance, but I'm a little confused. Is the 38,054KB file now unsafe to install? That's the one I downloaded to my PC the other day (haven't received the player yet). Was it removed from the LG site because it may brick the player?

My BH200 has the manufacture date of Jan 2008, came with the network driver 7.01 and I have updated the F/W twice: first to the "P" version from 2007, then to the just-pulled March version. No issues with any of the discs, including Japanese, Dutch and German HD DVDs as well as North American BD. Sound is perfect, with pass-through or re-encoding (DTS 5.1).... If the F/W is truly BETA, than it is a fully-functional one. BTW, both updates were done by disc - it seems a safer way to do so, as the network connection may drop out in the middle of the upgrade....

If the LG works like the Samsung (and any piece of software really), it downloads the entire update before beginning any sort of install. The only way things could go awry is if the unit lost power while it was applying the update, but if something were to happen while it was downloading there should be no harm done.

Alas, the instructions and manuals for LG lack such detailed information - for example, the update process MAY check for updated modules as it erases each layer - my ASUS laptop updates the BIOS that way.

Good. Because, I'm thinking of getting one today. Anyone, had troubles installing the fw after they pulled it out? Any "bricked" players?

One last question..... Is there anyway of confirming that we are indeed getting DTS MA (not dts hr) decoded inside the bh 200? I know it bitstreams DTS MA, as some have confirmed, these letters light up on their hdmi 1.3 receivers.

Paul - if you read through all the posts, there seems to be conflicting reports on this. According to LG, the BH200 is not supposed to decode DTS HD/MA internally, only bitstream it to a receiver for decoding. Dolby TrueHD, on the other hand, could either be decoded internally or bitstreamed to a receiver. This would make sense as pretty much every HD DVD player Toshiba ever released could decode TrueHD internally but none of them could do so with DTS HD/MA. The higher ends models could output DTS HD/MA via bitstream.

So, it would stand to reason that the BH200 could only bitstream DTS HD/MA, but again some posts from users seem to suggest that, in fact, it can decode it internally. So, my answer to your question, is ... maybe?
