In Ceiling Rear Surround Speaker Placement

So I have a new house that was pre-wired for surrounds in the ceiling behind the listening position. The ceiling is angled towards the seating position, so its actually in a really good position to place in ceiling speakers. What I don't know is how far apart those speakers should be.

I'm sure it has something to do with the actual speaker layout of the room. Lets assume that the tv is centered on back wall with tower speakers within 3 -4 ft of either side of the tv. Sub is located 3 ft to the right of the right tower. The center is located below TV angled up. How far apart from the center line should the rear surrounds be assuming they are centered behind the listening position? Should they be in line with the front towers or farther apart?

Jimmy, I have my TV center of the room. Center channel for now is centered at bottom of TV. Right and Left though are spread out about 4 ft on each side of the TV making them about 12 feet apart. I also have ceiling mounted surrounds, and I have them just about even with the fronts. This creates a pretty good sound stage and sounds pretty nice for my taste.

Good Luck whichever way you go........DMAN
