Ok, I picked up a Plextor ConvertX PX-TV402U. I realize this is an older device, from around 2005. Newegg was selling it for $45 after an $80 rebate, it arrived today and I've been messing it with it all afternoon / night.
I've gotten it to work pretty well, can record TV shows from Dish Network, and can record from my Xbox 360 via the inputs on the device.
It records DivX which I find convenient to put on my mp3 player. The issue I'm having is, when I choose the option to record in DivX with mp3 sound, the video quality is too low for my tastes.
I can record higher quality DivX, but the audio is mpeg layer 2, instead of mpeg layer 3. What I want to do is, record in higher quality DivX with mp3 audio so I can transfer to my portable player.
Does anyone have any experience with editing or changing the encoding options with the included software "InterVideo WinDVR 5"? On their website it suggests downloading an additional program, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.
I know this is a long shot, but I just thought I would check here before I finally try what the website suggests.
Thanks in advance for any replys.
