Is it currently possible to get Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio output over 8 channel analog from a PC while playing a Blu-ray or HD-DVD disk through PowerDVD/WinDVD?
I ask because I currently use my laptop as my main HD-DVD (and soon to be Blu-ray equipped) player and just purchased a Sony STR-DG1000 receiver plus 8 sony speakers. (has 8 channel inputs)
I am thinking of purchasing the "ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook" sound card from Creative for my laptop and hooking it up with 8 channel analog so I can actually fully utilize my speaker system when I get some new movie disks.
I would post a link to the card but the forum won't let me.
Anyway it will output 7.1 using a separately purchased dongle adapter.
My laptop will never have HDMI 1.3 audio support unless I get a motherboard upgrade. (its a Clevo D901C
)
If it works for this the same should apply with their desktop cards.
The main limitation would have to be software support I assume.
