DIY Concession/candy Stand construction - Page 2

I was looking to do something similar a few months ago, and came across this site. When I finally get around to doing this I 'm planning on using one of these.

Using a slight variation of the HTB plans. I have built the everything from scratch using 1 4'X8' 3/4" Birch plywood and 1 4'X8' 3/4" Particle board. The cabinet will be slightly longer, the candy area a bit smaller so that I can fit a fridge in the bottom facing the front. I will paste more pics as I progress and I can detail the plans when finished if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the support.

Painted to match the decor of the theater.

The next pic will be of the completed project.

All I need is the popcorn machine, fridge, and candy. Popcorn machine is on it's way! The colors I chose are to match the room decor (black and gold). I hope you like.

The mirror and glass came in - I finished the build last night and here are the pics. I will write ups some plans and post ... it may take a little bit of time though.

Do you think these would sell?

Just before mirror and glass

Finished build:

MJ,
Yes they would sell. Do you mean plans or built.
A kit would be a great idea then people could get their own color, shipping would be easy.

What is the cutout on the right side for?

Looking at the concession stand:

Bottom left - small 1.6 - 1.7 cu ft. fridge
Right side - mirror with glass shelves for candy. On the top there is a opening with a glass window to look down at the candy from above.
Top will hold the popcorn machine.

I will post pics once I have everything installed - hoping by this weekend.

I meant the cutout on the right side of the top, above the shelves.

Great job on the stand!!!

did you design this? I saw a reference in the thread to "HTB plans" (no idea what that means) but are these available to the general public or for purchase?

Thanks Max.

The lighting in the candy area is rope lighting. Bright enough to light up the candy, but not extremely bright, but I would turn off during a movie. I have them plugged into a surge protector that I can turn on/off with a switch.

This is in the theater. I have a bump out area in the theater ( to the left of the screen if you are looking at the screen) that this sits perfectly in.

This was built from a hybrid of plans I have seen. If you look earlier in this thread, there are a couple plans posted. I will eventually post the plans when I write them up.

Thanks

Ok, so after being beaten up for not paying enough attention, I read back over this entire thread before asking the following question

What are the outside dimensions of this badboy? I'm wondering if this might fit in the spot where I was going to put my popper.

The measurements at the widest point (the top) are 37 1/2" wide X 24 1/4" deep X 36" tall.

Hmm.. I may have to see if I can work this in somewhere. Otherwise I'm stuck with a popper on the corner and some shelves or something for the candy.

Great Job on the concession stand! How did you mount the top glass? What did you put underneath to hold glass?
Thanks in advance!
I actually scrapped the "concession stand" I had already built and was just putting on the finishing touches to do one similar to yours...I know this was done a while ago... but do you still have the dimensions for each compartment? and how do you access the candy section? or is it just for show? (not an option for me- the kids and the wife have already insisted on that)...

Is there anything else that I am missing ?

Thanks

The edges where the glass sits are routed so that the depth is exactly the thickness of the glass. A small amount of clear glue specifically for glass is applied to the routed edge of the wood and the glass is set in place. I used a small amount of paintable caulk on the outside edge where the glass meets the wood so that there is no gap (so that salt, oil, etc cannot get in-between). I painted it the same color as the top.
