Just thought I should let everyone know there is to be a new No-Man album released very soon indeed.
No news on Pre-Order date as yet, but the album is titled "Schoolyard Ghosts".
It will be a CD/DVD-A/V double pack, and carry the usual formats:
24-48 Stereo, 24-48 5.1 & 24-48 DTS.
There will also be 3 films included, each with 24-bit stereo & DTS 5.1 as well.

Yay!!! Gimme gimme gimme!

Hmm, by films, do you mean longer, artistic creations as opposed to "videos"?

I guess we'll find out...

Neil, thanks for the good news.

P.S. Perhaps you could mention to S.W. that I would like "Blackfield" done in hi-rez surround as soon as possible. My birthday is in July. Thanks much.

Neil my birthday has just gone got bass communion for that birthday.

Can you put in a good word with Steve wilson to save the world between mixing Blackfields albums in surround and of course recording his solo album.
I think that will give him 5 minutes every fortnight to sleep.

Yep Ordered mine today. by the time you convert and add shipping almost 30 bucks. At least musicians overseas still enjoy making music in the round. Seems most didsc I buy now are from artist out of Europe and in MCH sound.

Thanks for the heads-up, Neil. I got my preorder in just the other day. I'm looking forward to it.

BTW... when is SW gonna send Blackfield your way so we can enjoy it as DVD-A?

I just noticed Burning Shed shows the DVD-A to be "in stock". Anyone get their pre-orders yet? Nothing here yet, anyway...

hmmm...not yet

I just got the email yesterday saying it shipped from Burning Shed. If it arrives as quickly as the PT Lightbulb Sun disc, it should be here in the next day or two.

I got an E-mail yesterday as well. great stuff.

I hope it arrives quicker than LBS as i got that nearly a week after US board members. I live in the UK not to far from Burning shed.

I received my copy today in the mail. Like the Lightbulb Sun dvd-a it also came with a bonus cd of alternates/edits. I will be giving it a listen to today and will report back.

I received this today and I have to say it is by far one of THE best recordings that Mr. Wilson has done. It is a stunning piece of work in itself but the 5.1 mixing is so incredible you feel like you have been placed inside a warm cocoon where everything your hear, feel and touch is a new experience. The vocals are just absolutely rich in tonality emanating from dead center to floating over your head. I must say I could go on and on about this disc but it is something you have to experience yourself to understand the sense I am conveying.

Wow

What's No-Man is like musically speaking? [ I didn't care for Blackfield.]

No-man can be described as poppy ambient trip-hop crooner-vocal psychedelic arthouse soft rock, but that is somewhat generalizing.

It's hard to describe, because it doesn't fit into particular categories well, as you can see, and No-man has experimented with various styles over the years.

It is more pop-oriented than Porcupine Tree, so somewhat similar to Blackfield. But the musical styles are more ambient than Blackfield, and do have a fair bit of trip-hop still there (Wild Opera is their most Trip-Hop-oriented release). (And you know, I've never really gotten my head around what a "trip-hop" song is supposed to sound like.)

there are elements borrowed from SW's other projects, like PTree, Bass Communion and IEM.

SW doesn't do the vox - Tim Bowness handles that for No-man. So that is one big difference. Tim's voice is crooner style, with a sad, lamented, tired sound-style that matches the words/music well.

I have described elsewhere the latest release as another mournful, beautiful, melancholic collection of songs.

I dunno if that helps,

Thanks, to me Blackfield was just depressing, not "dark" like PT is, but just whiny boring with only some interesting music ideas. No-Man seems to be maybe more promising based on your post, maybe.

Is there a download sample I could hear?
