Help me pick my first LCD:Samsung, Sony, Toshiba or Vizio???

Ok I have finally narrowed down my First HDTV options to the follwing LCD's

Samsung LNT4661F 46-inch 1080p LCD HDTV (refurb)

Sony KDL-46V2500 46" Bravia V-Series 1080p LCD HDTV(refurb)

Toshiba REGZA 42HL167 42-inch 1080p LCD HDTV
(refurb)

Vizio GV47LF 47" 1080p LCD HDTV
(refurb)

SHARP AQUOS Black 46" 16:9 4ms 1080p LCD HDTV w/ ATSC Tuner & HDMI Model LC-46D62U
(new)

Each of these Lcds are a refurb and each contain a good number of ports. Which should I get??? My setup would consist of a Upscalling dvd player connected via component,
A HD Cable Box connected Via HDMI, an xbox 360 connect via vga or hdmi, and thats all until I purchase any more equipment. The tv will be in the main room of my apartment there is one balcony widow which brings in sunlight.

It will be used for gaming, watching sports, standard def tv stations, and movies.

Help please anyone.

My budget is 1300 dollars.

I found all four of these tv's under that price.

go to a store and demo all the sets you're interested in. make sure to grab the remote and play with the settings. choose the one that looks best to your eyes. to my eyes, the Sony looks the best of the sets you mentioned.

What kind of extended warranties can you get with these TV's? If you can't get an extended warranty, I would pass on a refurb. What does refurb even mean anyway? It could mean they looked at the TV, didn't notice anything wrong with it, and turned it right back around. Or it could mean they replaced everything in the TV.

I guess if I had to choose, I would take the Samsung or the Sony. I had a Tosh 52HL167 and SD looked horrible on it, so I wouldn't recommend the HL167 line.

Well, knowing your budget may help, too. That may play a factor as far as how we can help you. I dunno about you, but I'm surprised you didn't mention Sharp Aquos, since they've been succeeding in all those areas of late.

Will you be using the speakers in the TV, or will the sound be carried by external speakers? We bought an inexpensive 32" Vizio for a porch, and while the blacks were not as good (we knew that and were OK for just a porch) we ultimately returned it because the sound quality was so poor through the TV speakers that we couldn't understand dialog without making it painfully loud. Rather than pay $200 for a small "theater in a box" system, we returned it and put the $200 more into a Samsung -- better picture and sound.

So, make sure to compare how they sound if you plan to use the internal speakers...

$1,300? I believe I found Newegg selling a 46" 1080p for that from the Sharp Aquos line. I'd look at that if I were you. Can't tell you the model number, since I don't know how far AVS will let me go with telling you about it.

You can find the Toshiba 47HL167 at Costco for a similar price.

He's right...Costco has killer prices on Toshibas and Sharps now.

If you get the Toshiba, JoeP. has the authoritive calibration thread going on here now as well. I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

The Sammy, Sony and Sharp are all good options. If you can take a smaller size (40"), I would buy the Sammy new.

I was dead set on a Sammy 4071 prior to picking up a 'placeholder' TV today. I got a Tosh Regza 42V530U. It has much better specs than the 42HL167 and it is under your budget (at BB).

I agree that you should compare these TVs in the store. But you better move quickly. Most stores are getting in new stock weekly and most (if not all) of your stated options are being replaced.

Alright well I went to best buy the other day and they allowed me to play around with the samsung, sharp and sony tv's and I was just impressed equally with all three. I would like to buy the set new but for my budget thats not possible. I can only purchase a refurb and hope all is well. My only concern now after researching and checking these models are which one has the least amount of problems???

That'll guarantee you a Sammy LN-T4065F with that budget. It's a higher-end model than the LN-T4061F, and should prove more worthy. I'd consider that one rather closely. After all, it seems like the 4065 is where Samsung seems to break the PQ barrier between LCD and plasma, and it shows. I'm even thinking of picking up that Sammy in and around the holiday season myself.
