Yet another "Help me choose my new tv" thread! Yay!

I need a new TV! (Well first I need to unload the old one on craigslist but I'm starting research now.)

Here are my requirements:

46" or 50", not bigger. 46" would be ideal I think. I'm hoping to keep it under $2k. I have a Sam's membership if that makes a difference.

I'd really like decent speakers on the TV. I've been using external speakers for a while now, but I'm getting rid of them, they're just too obtrusive. (Or maybe you have a suggestion for non obtrusive speakers (non in-wall though) as well, go ahead and share!).

I need good picture quality, that's my main concern. I have an external vp that I can use to dial in color and grayscale, so accuracy out of the box is not crucial, but I want to know if decent results can be had that way (or even with just the tv controls), and I'd also like the blacks to be decent. Seating distance is about 10 ft. It is NOT a batcave, there's quite a lot of ambient light. The tv will be used mostly to watch dvr and cable, some dvd, though we are watching more and more HD (cable) these days. So I'm guessing I could get by with 720p, although for resale value I'd rather go with 1080p.

What I do NOT care about is all the bells and whistles, picture 'improvement' gimmicks and the like. I know it's sort of unavoidable these days, but I'll most certainly end up turning them all off. So I want to avoid paying for stuff I won't be using.

Finally, a decent build would be nice. I'm not expecting a tank, but I don't want to be wondering if the tv's going to fall apart as I hang it above the fireplace.

Oh, and discrete on/off codes are a must. Now THAT would be a deal breaker.

Thanks for your help, gents.
