I just bought the Samsung PN58A550 in Brands Mart yesterday. I have been researching LCD and Plasma sets for the past 2 years. I typically would stop a couple of times a week on my way home from work at the local Best Buy and Circuit City to view their sets, watch the prices, drool over them, and try to determine which was the set for me. Does this sound like any of you?
For a while I was kind of hooked on the Sony XBR3, and later the XBR4 and XBR5. Somewhere along the way I began to like the Plasma's better. But the main thing is SIZE. No matter how good any set might look to me, the larger sets just have more emotional impact. Pricepoint was the difficulty. I wanted a 58" or larger set for $3000 or less. I want what I want! And now the day is here. No need to debate any more about black level, or how many ziggly lines or pixels are out of place by how many centimeters. No more comparing Panny-to-Pio-to-Sammy. Samsung's PN58A550 is beautiful. It is Big. It is bright. It is vivid. It is $3098 right now at Brands Mart without haggling. It stood right next to the Samsung FP-T5884 and I could not distinguish the difference. 5 year warranty purchased. And now switching from DirecTV (whom I've been a customer of for 11 years) to Dish Network, not because they are perfect or something, but because they don't try to charge $200 for a leased HD DVR as DirecTV does. Won't be seeing any of you boys in the Magnolia Room anymore, unless maybe I'm in there buying a cable, or a BIG screen cleaning kit. Been nice knowing you. I'll send you some rave reviews when I get the chance.
