I purchased an A2, mid March of 2007 with a Visa. Yesterday, I got a phone call from 888-BEST-BUY asking me to call 888-BEST-BUY back to confirm that I purchased one or more players from them. I was transferred to a live person who then transferred me to a line with a generic recording that stated I would be reciving my gift card in 4-6 weeks.
The message also stated that since I purchased with a credit card, they have my address on file but if it had changed since the purchase (it had not) to wait on the line and I would be transferred to yet another line.
It was all very confusing and unnecessary, if you ask me. I'll be surprised if I don't have to call on May 2nd and whine that I hadn't received mine yet. It smells an awful lot like rebates, in where they like you to forget about it (hence the 4-6 weeks for the mail to process them)
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Best Buy is stepping up to the plate. I just wish all of the other vendors (Walmart, and so on) would jump in, since my understanding is that this cash is coming from Toshiba directly to the re-seller. I bought six players altogether and only one was from Best Buy.
I do like that I don't have to give up my equipment or movies, though.
Did anyone go to the Best Buy reseller site? Just for giggles, I put in my mint condition XA2 and the max amount of movies (6-11, I think) I got back a quote for $195.00!!! When Hell freezes over was my response, I believe.
Back to the gift card/rebate situation...Does anybody know for certain who is footing the bill for Best Buy's program? I'm real curious...If it's Best Buy, hats off to them. If it's Toshiba, then where are the other re-sellers? Right?
Sorry, folks...Just middle of the night, can't sleep ranting. I'll probably read this tomorrow and ask myself what I was on. Take care...Will
