Alan Wake Confirmed (Again) For September

In case you haven't heard, Alan Wake is a psychological action thriller from Remedy, the developer of successful titles including Max Payne and Max Payne 2. The game is due for the Xbox 360 and PC - and has been re-confirmed once again for September 2008.

The game puts the player in control of Alan Wake, a successful horror writer until he lost his muse and love (all very Silent Hill so far). He travels to Bright Falls in order to start afresh and come to terms with his loss. He writes a book about his nightmares (as you do as a successful author, as Stephen King will attest to) but unfortunately, these nightmare begin to come true.

The game gives you access to a cinematic world that enables you to roam freely in hyper-realistic, dynamic and interactive environments. Alan Wake is mission-based with a deeply engaging and suspenseful story line unveiling new twists and profound character revelations at every turn. Apparently this will give it a combined feel of Silent Hill or Resident Evil mixed with Grand Theft Auto (as you have freedom to move around the city).

Apparently, the game has excellent graphics and you can certainly see that from the video. More to the point, the game will use an exceptionally detailed physics engine along with playing with the dark and light to have you both afraid and using the light as your ultimate ally. Frankly, it sounds quite I Am Legend' and I can't wait for it. Is it all going to be a dream though? Certainly the A.Wake reference would suggest so

Ive been looking forward to this game now for 3 years. We need more of what seems to be Silent Hill type Action Adventure games.

Cannot wait and hopefully it makes it on time.

this one's been off my radar for months, if not a year, but definitely hoping it finally sees the light of day.

I hope it comes out in September. I've been wanting this game for years now.

For reeealzz, I love games with real-world settings. They help me remember that not all games are required to be "sci-fi" or "war" themed.

I agree- and think that is what appeals to me most about this game. I don't know how "real" it will turn out to be after battling nightmare demons and the like, but I am definitely looking forward to the game!

After them delaying it and delaying, I no longer care. Same with Dark Sector.

I would rather they delay it and get it done then release a half finished or unpolished game.

Just trying to remember but isnt something else big coming out in sept? or rumored to be?

i think ms would want to do what they did last year and have a "big" game come out each month.... we know gears2 is nov and fable 2 & halo wars are somewhere near there too.

But that doesn't mean it'll be a better product or it won't be finished. This game is probably never coming out and if it does it won't be worth it.

New OXM (May 08) Rumor Mole is hinting at TOO HUMAN as a "back to school special".

"This game is probably never coming out and if it does it won't be worth it."

And what would give you that idea? Remedy is s developer with a long history of giving us quality games after long development cycles. This is par for the course for them, and in the end any reasonable person shouldn't be surprised by an excellent game.

22 Statements from the Official Alan Wake boards clarify that claims of a September release and media speculation is nothing more than a "bogus claim."

Moderators whom are also employees of Remedy Entertainment, reinforce the message that the upcoming title will be done "when its done." And that if you do not see it on an official site, "then it's simply not true

Alot of this is going around.

Everything I've heard about this game is that it's definitely not coming in 2008. I would be absolutely shocked if this game made it out this year. In fact, 2009 isn't even a lock, the last I heard. Of course, I'm no insider or anything, and I've only heard discussions about it via various podcasts.

I'll just play Alone in the Dark. It's developer is actually releasing media and that game is probably going to actually get released. I had high hopes for Alan Wake. Whether that developer has a good track record or not, most games that release nothing, get pushed back multiple times, and have rumors of jumping on and off platforms almost never turn out well. I hope this is the exception.

I was so pumped to play this game and then delays and delays later it just makes me shrug when I read about it. I find myself glossing over articles about it instead of reading them. Goes to show you that delays can really hurt a game's sale, especially when it is hyped for awhile and then delayed.

This ain't coming out in 2008.

I wonder when they'll actually show some gameplay of the 360 version.

Considering that the console version outsell the PC version by a great margin, the answer would be a yes.

I'm sure they will show some, but when? They've shown PC footage a long time ago and never 360 footage that I'm aware of despite your thoughts of the PC version selling the console version.

+1, Microsoft has already stated, around the time of the GDC that they're focusing on the Fable 2, Too Human, BK3 and GoW2 for their 2008 releases. Alan Wake is most definitely going to be 2009, and I personally think it'll be end of Q1 2009.

Is it just me? Or are you guys not making any sense?

"When are they going to show 360 footage?"

"Yes they are, because 360 version will outsell PC version"

"...despite your thoughts of the PC version selling the console version"

HUH?

lol, not really. I merely wanted to know when they'll show some 360 gameplay footage as all I've watched is some PC footage (which looks cool). I don't understand how his response relates to my question. I could have worded my response back better as well

The PC footage is ancient, though... years old. They flat out have not shown much of this game since it was announced. Full on development hell by this point, though Remedy is talented so I expect something decent.

Very true. Even new PC footage would be welcome at this point though I'd prefer to see how it would look on the 360.

What I've seen of the PC game it looks boring unless you just like to look around in a game of which you can easily do in real life but looks better than 1080p. This looks nothing more like eye candy with a boring game mixed in it. So for the Xbox it will look half as good but just as boring.

You should add left 4 dead, halo wars, and ninja gaiden 2 to that list

I'd like to see more about the game. All I've seen shown to date are tech demos. What have you seen about the actual game?

For the PC? If you mean PC, I've seen them show supposed in game shots of them showing off the graphics and not the gameplay. And this was like 2 yrs ago. I'll still be here when it flops though.

We've seen no evidence to indicate it will be boring or will flop, but we've also seen no evidence that its going to be a fun/good game besides the graphics. Its the Xbox360's version of Killzone 2....amazing graphics, totally up in the air as far as gameplay/fun factor.

I find it a bit ridiculous that its taken this long for the game to come out after initial trailers. I wonder what the holdup was?
