Have everything but....a good receiver....please help

I'm definitely an audio newbie. I currently have:

50" panasonic 1080i plasma (thinking of ugprading to 60" 1080p kuro 6010fd)

I send all of my video straight to the plasma

Xbox 360 - via component
PS3 - via HDMI
Satalite receiver - via component
DVD Player - via HDMI
Wii - via composite

My audio currently goes into an old Kenwood receiver from a "home theatre in a box system that is 6+ years old" For audio, I prefer optical, but my kenwood one has 2 slots so I constantly am switching wires out.

Anyhow, I moved into a new house where $2000+ surround sound speaker system was left (wired behind the walls and dropped from the ceiling) and a very nice subwoofer, but I've got a crappy kenwood receiver controlling it all and its time to replace it.

I'm willing to spending up to $800 or so if I need to, but have no idea what I'm looking for. I know I'd like a ton of optical slots, and at least 2 HDMI input slots if I'm going to run video through my receiver and then 1 wire to my TV....Is that what I should be doing or should I continue what I'm doing now and just send all the video signals straight into a TV?

I'm assuming I need the latest HDMI support and whatever else is the latest and greatest. I don't play music instruments or do any mixing or anything like that.... With that in mind, what would you experts recommend I buy with a budget of around $750 to $800 bucks?

If there is any other information you need to be able to help me out, please let me know.

Thanks

Looks like after reading some of the posts on the forums....that I'll wait for the Pioneer VSX-1018TXH-K. It looks like a good receiver with a lot of inputs.

What speakers are you using.

If you can hold out for the new model Harman Kardon receivers due out shortly (see the thread on the H/K AVR255/355) I think you will be well served. You don't say what brand the speakers are, and I am no fan of in-wall or in-ceiling speakers, but the H/K receivers are known to drive speakers that can be a problem for other brands of receivers in the same price range. Ok, went and looked...Seems like they speaker system is the

Boston 9500 System (not the 9000). Found an old brochure online, below is the link:

Currently running an old kenwood receiver, looiking to upgrade. So far I've heard:

1.) Pioneer VSX-1018TXH-K
2.) H/K AVR255/355
3.) The Yamaha RX-V663

Based on those speaker (I know they are not that great, but they were free w/ the house)...and knowing I have a lot of game systems to hook up, so I appreciate a lot of HDMI/Optical ports...what would you recommend?

Thanks.

Since you'll wait for the HK and Pio to be released, include the new Sony STR-DG820 and 920 on your list. They should be available at the same time as the others.

Thanks Samshurd....

Any other recommendations based on the conponents I'm hooking up to it and the speakers I have? My assumption is, compared to the old crappy kenmoore I have now...that any one of these recommendations is going to be far beyond what I have now and half the features I won't know how to use anyways, lol.
