Warner Home Video has announced that they will release the highly anticipated Sci-Fi thriller 'V for Vendetta' for Blu-ray on May 20th. Video will be presented as 2.40:1 1080p VC-1 with 5.1 Dolby Digital audio track (no TrueHD track has been announced at this time, but is expected). While no extras have been announced at this time, you can expect that all the extras from the previous HD DVD release will fit easily on the BD-50.

I was in the process of killing the thread because no info. As I did info was added. And please keep the crap out of the thread. Thanks.

Warner (the King of inconsistensy) better add the TrueHD track.

Sir, yes SIR!!!!

Anyway, the movie itself wasn't that good. The Wachowski brothers made 1 excellent film (the first Matrix) and that was about it (for me, at least).

I love this movie. True HD track is a must! Warner is probably going to reuse the same video encode that was on the HDDVD version.

I have the "box set" that came with a 1/4 scale copy of his mask on SD. Will be interesting to see if they also release a Blu-Ray edition like that one.

Has Warner announced any plans for a rebate for those that own the HD DVD version?
This is probably a tie-in of sorts with the Wachowskis' new film, Speed Racer.

I actually never thought I would like the movie just based on the coverart I saw years ago. I got a chance to watch it on HBO HD a month ago and really enjoyed it. I finally decided to watch it to see why the hell all the BD supporters wanted it to come to BD so badly. I thought it was near excellence. I think I may even purchase this, but I'll look into the PQ from the HD DVD version before I do.

+1.

I absolutely love this movie and its message.

I love this movie and am thrilled it's finally coming to Blu-ray. Although I would be a bit disappointed if it didn't include that Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.
Well No PCM or TrueHD track means no purchase for me. I liked this film but I will follow suit like I am on The Last Samurai. If they want to continue to half a$$ releases then they won't get my money.
The HD version has TrueHD. I would assume this would also, but it's never safe to assume...

Howcome people keep bringing this up? Is there a movie where Warner released the BD version without a lossless track when the HD DVD version had one? I looked up the HD DVD specs and it has TrueHD, so why wouldn't the BD?

No that honor goes to Lionsgate.

Didn't superman returns have only a DD track?

Unfortunately. Unless you can get your hands on the Pioneer version, which I'm starting to lose hope for finding @ retail.

I thought that was a long time ago and more the exception than the rule? I'm not really familiar with the Superman Returns situation so I can't comment on it, but I thought that was released way back in the days when Warner seemed to not really be concerned with their BD customers.

Same here, I already have it on DVD and HD-DVD (though I have no TruHD playback on my 360) so I won't buy it with out PCM or TruHD.

There are a number of Warner Blu-ray releases that lack the TrueHD track of the HD DVD version.

For example:

The Ant Bully, Happy Feet, Lady in the Water, The Phantom of the Opera, Training Day, The Wicker Man, and of course Superman Retruns.

I see it was more prevalent than I thought. That's upsetting, though I am confident that won't be the case for this particular release. We shall see though.

Maybe older releases did not have True HD but theres no reason to omit it from new releases.
This is the same deal as I Am Legend. They didn't announce a lossless track so everyone freaked out, but then it had it. V is a high profile title, they will not skip out on lossless.

Last Samurai, The Island, Swordfish, Oceans Trilogy.

I sold my HD DVD copy after their Jan'04 announcement. They better do a high bit rate re-encode and put lossless track as this is one of my top 10 all time favorites.

In addition to the TrueHD, I appreciated having the IME on the HD DVD. Now that it's possible, will they offer it on the Blu-ray release?

Now that is the million dollar question. This, along with The Matrix trilogy, is one of the titles they said would not be released until they had the PiP features working, right?

Yeah but when Sony and Lionsgate were able to give us BonusView on certain titles I think Warner should be able to do it. If Warner thinks they don't have the tools to give us IME they should simply handed over the job of encoding and authoring to Sony like Paramount did for World Trade Center.

I never bought this one on DVD, and I'm glad I waited. Whatever audio they include will be more than adequate for my system. Definitely looking forward to this one.

wow. what's with AVS police? seems excessive.
anyways, I'm very psyched that V for Vendetta is coming to blu-ray. and even earlier than Batman Begins. sweet!

V for Vendetta is one of my absolute fav films. It runs parallel with what's going on in todays world.

I like how the article stated that The Matrix should be on it's way very soon. And we need Transformers. Not in the same league but it's sure fun to watch! Paramount already mastered and finished Face/Off for blu-ray back in August. Yet no word. Paramount Hello??

V for Vendetta is a great start to get the ball rolling now that HD DVD is dead. Is there any word on extras for the Blu-ray version?
