Is there some new hysteria about Warner transferring over HD DVD encodes onto BD and how sh*tty they automatically are because of their origin? This is the second post of this type I've noticed in the past few minutes of browsing. Perhaps I'm wrong here with the intentions of this post.

I was just pointing out the contradiction of saying "going to": if they're the same as the HD DVD encodes then they either already look awesome or they won't on the new releases.

I have owned both Blu and HD DVD since they were first released so as a member of this "Blu community" I find your post hysterical. There are a bunch of Blu titles that look crappy and soft so the "Blu community" has nothing coming that they have'nt seen before. Many titles that were released on Blu have inferior pq than their HD DVD counterpart not to mention inferior audio on some Paramount releases. I would rather BB and V look a little soft than be sharpened with noticeable edge enhancement.

I take it that you are not a movie lover first? I use a 9' wide 2.40:1 scope screen and both V and BB look like film so no complaints here. Missing out on good films because the tech specs don't meet your expectations is crazy. You need to see films with your own eyes and not go by specs alone. I have HD D-Theater tapes that look fantastic that were released a year or two before HD on disc. They have inferior specs compared to HD on disc but most of them still blow me away in regards to picture quality even though I have 400+ HD movies on Blu and HD DVD.

I think Igans was being cynical. I'm pretty sure he's dual format. But most BDs from Disney(the go to for top notch BD) have screemingly high bitrates.
I think we are done with the HD-DVD vs BD stuff. But Warner does cripple some releases with low bitrate VC-1(Jesse James).

I agree that V and Bats look good in HD. They just don't look as good now compared to the new cream of the crop we get. They are better than the dvds. But personally I think that's due to the better color space of HD.

They are a little more soft than I would like. But that is definently better than EE.

I still think it's funny that people use DVD as the benchmark against which to gauge HD releases.

Unless somebody REALLY fu*ks something up, it's pretty much a no brainer that it's going to be better than DVD. Am I completely satisfied with their handling of V and Batman, and the other catch-up titles? No. But every one of them is leaps and bounds above any other available version of the film, and I'm after the best I can get. The audio upgrade alone is worth it for me.

Viewing on a 9' wide 2.40:1 screen from 10' away, color space is just one of many improvements over the dvd. The dvd looks like dog crap compared to the HD DVD in this setup in every way I can think of.

Yeah, Warner's lowbit release of Jesse pretty much convinced me that V and BB would get the same transfer as the HD DVD.

Any confirmation yet if this BD release will get the True HD soundtrack found on the HD DVD. This HD DVD was excellent and if it is the same exact encode and audio everyone should be pretty happy.

Does anyone have this movie on blu-ray yet? I know that it wont be available until the 20th of this month, but some retailers sell their copies earlier than others.
Nope. AFAIK none of the retailers have done early shipping of V.
I'm hoping to see a shipping notice from Warner in the next few days.

I got my review copy today. I won't get a review up by street date though...I'm heading out on vacation. I'll try and pop it in tomorrow sometime to see how it is, but I know it is a port from the HD DVD so I don't expect to see or hear any differences between the two.

Thanks Dave.

Have a great vacation.

As you are going on vacation how about passing your review copy to Ralph or Josh ?
I'm sure Ralph will receive a copy as well. I'll still review it, it will just be a little late

I never really cared for the SD DVD PQ. I'm a movie lover first so therefore format neutral and never bought or watched it on HD DVD. I'll stay tuned to this thread to get opinions on the BD.

This including True HD is a good thing and it will be hard to resist if you folks give this BD a thumbs up as I rather go that direction. The movie is good enough in my book but for whatever reason I didn't get to on HD DVD.

Well, since it will be the same thing, you could just look at the HD DVD reviews. However, I suspect it won't get reviewed as favorably because of how expectations have changed since then.
You are right. I am still not sure if Warner will do real PIP. I think they will take advantage of BD-50 to create 2 versions of the movie. One with IME and one with it. I think they are stll struggling to get their hands wet with the BD authoring tools.
HDD lists it as a profile 1.1 title for the IME.

Got it. Warner has used the extra space to accommodate multiple spoken language tracks to make this a single Universal release. They could have at least offered 24-bit audio instead of 16-bit to make the BD release look slightly superior to the HD DVD. Lazy I am going Crazy.
WOW that's WAY to interesting, wich languages does it include?? does it have the 2 french and 2 spanish type of audios (quebec-parisian for french and latin-castillian for spanish).

The IME is there right?
