AVR video processor list

I'm in the process of searching for my next AVR and I just realized there's no AVR scaler chip master list on AVS.
The easiest we could find info about are the HQV- or ABT-based AVRs but the gazillion iteration of Faroudjas are pretty tough when "Cinema" itself has 4-5 chips under the same technology name... anyway, it's obviously not an overnight project but over time I'm sure one-by-one we will find out about all of them.

Anchor Bay chips: ABT2010 > ABT1018 >ABT1010
Silicon Optix' top model is the HQV Realta (FPGA), next is Reon.

I'm going through a similar search, and you may have it fairly well covered. On the HQV website they only list the Onkyo models as receivers having their processor.

I believe the 605/705/805 use a 2D comb filter faroudja chip in the form of the faroudja hudson. It max's out at 720p hence so many people have complained about its output from component sources.

Faroudja released the 'cortez II' a.k.a Torino (3D comb filter with motion adaptive filters) which may be used in the Sony 5300ES and a number of flat screen TV panels. This seems to have gotten good reviews in the Sony. Hopefully it will find its way into AVR's in 2008/2009.

Just thought i'd ask T2k,how sure you are about the Yamaha RX-V863 being ABT1010?I went to the Yamaha US site and did comparison chart between RX-V1800 and RX-V863and lists the 1800 as having and the 863 as not having ABT in its column.The Australian site also says the same(where I'm from).i have been searching the web for info' on the 863 and I accept the website may be wrong.We all appreciate the list you have compiled.Keep it up!

Hi, T2k,

In your list I cannot see many AV Pre-Pros. Most of then are AV receivers or AV integrated amps.

I wonder what has happened to the various manufacturers. Is the market calling only for AV receivers (or AV amps)?

I have a Denon AVC-A1SE upgraded to KAVCA1SE card and to 2nd Edition Denon Link (it is the equivalent to the American edition of the AVR-5800 upgraded version, only it's only an integrated AV amp, not an AV receiver).

I certainly don't like and don't want to give it away, provided that I can get an HD player that may give me a multi-channel analog out, which is going to support all new sound formats.

Otherwise, I may have to look for a modern AV Pre-Pro.

This is why your list draw my attention

There are a few units in this (getting dated list) you can add, (e.g., Sherwood), chips (e.g., Marvell Qdeo), and on the ABT, e.g., Z-11, changes and need for separately listed scalers.

You are wrong with Z11
It has ABT1018

Aside of the well-known problems of the old FLi2310 (e.g. Denons) it seems the iChip deinterlacer in Yamahas (standard with ABT scalers) doesn't like video-based sources but apparently the newer Faroudja Cortez Advanced is a decent overall solution - now I'm really curious about its bigger bro, the Torino...
Of course, HQV-based units came out on top but it starts above $1k so neither will be a mass hit anytime soon...

Just FYI, the Integra line of receivers matches up with the base Onkyos, so:
8.8 and 9.8 = Onkyo 905 video processing
7.8 = 805
6.8 = 705
5.8 = 605

I'm surprised that Denon is using such out of date/inferior technology for it's AVR's (At least those under 5 grand ) A lot of factors come into play when looking at an AVR of course, but this list would seem to suggest that you would get better video processing from the $499 Onkyo TX-SR606 than the $1599 Denon AVR-3808CI. How sad is that???

First off, thanks for taking the time to put this together T2k, I noticed you were catching quite a bit of flack from a few people in some other threads who didn't like what they were hearing! But anyways, I've got an almost 10 year old receiver that is getting closer to the top of the upgrade list, so I've been reading this sub-forum a bit lately. My question is, can anyone comment on how the chips in the mid-level avr's (onkyo 606, pio 1018, denon 2809, etc.) would compare to the one in my 2006 Sammy DLP? I believe it's a Texas Instruments chip and my tv model is HL-S5087w; I'm just wondering if the quality of the scaler in the avr should be a factor for my decision as my tv does 1080p now.
