360 + Monitor Calibration - VGA Cable with HD-DVD DVE

I wanted to ask about the calibrating the VGA input of my monitor for my 360 using the Digital Video Essentials HD-DVD disk through the HD-DVD addon.

Would I get the best picture quality by setting the VGA option in the 360 dashboard to expanded? Then using the HD-DVD DVE to calibrate color (Red, Green, Blue) and black levels (brightness & Contrast) for my monitor?

Is this the best option for games and movies (both hd-dvd and DVD up conversion)?

First time using my 360 on a monitor. Dell 2408WFP is the monitor in case anyone else has it. Wasn't too sure if using the HD-DVD DVE would help for giving great picture quality of games as well.

"Expanded" levels will crush below black and above white (you'll notice this when setting the black level), but I doubt that'll make too much difference to actual picture quality. If you use "expanded" mode when you watch movies and play games then use it for the calibration as well.

I actually don't think you'll get much value out of calibrating the monitor, except for the black level. There's not going to be a color or tint control (which is fine as it's almost certainly accurate by default) and without special equipment it's very hard to set the RGB levels. You're probably best off setting the monitor to "warm" or "6500" mode, if it has that option, and not worrying about it anymore.

Well it has contrast, brightness, RGB, Hue, & Saturation. If I set the VGA to expanded and then calibrate everything I will get crushed blacks? Isn't not easy to calibrate using the RGB controls? Wouldn't the calibration disk help with that?
