Would it help if they inserted information in the Title the same way "Firmware-905-rev#xxxxxxx" Would this help to sort?

It would help if the title said the Model number and firmware version they have then I know which to send. No serial numbers needed. Then in the message just their email address... And maybe 1 or 2 questions at the most. Thanks for your help...

Noy trying to beat a dead horse here, but tried a XA2, Panny BD 30, and a 5 year old Toshiba DVD player ALL using optical 1 and I get swat...Any ideas?

im assuming the player HAS to be capable of bit-perfect output. first thing to do is make sure the player is doing 44.1khz bitstream

Probably best to use a very plain and older CD only player with optical output.
And make sure you read the posts where people were pushing the wrong button!

Close.... I used the 983 which worked perfectly. Suggest you play an audio cd first which gets the player and receiver into PCM mode instead of bitstream.

The 605, 705 and 805 do not have to be at firmware version 1.05 to have the DSP updated. I have already updated my 805 without issues...

I read somewhere in the maze of posts since yesterday that one user properly updated from an Oppo player by putting "raw" as his output.

Audio Setup page
Digital Output => RAW

I don't think it works but I'd like to know as well. I think we can use the 875 to update our 885's but not the 905 update. That doesn't make much sense to me because the 905 looks like it's a closer match than the 875 is. If you look at the 1.05 update that we used on the 885 there's a folder you have to go into called SR875.

I updated my 885 using the BD30. I don't know if you have to do this but I changed my DTS setting from bitstream to pcm. Give that a try and see if it works.

Do I need to do the firmware upgrade? Is there only ONE firmware upgrade? I consider myself a person of reasonable intelligence, but I just keep getting more confused here. There are so many threads about FWs and what gets fixed and what doesn't and which FW is for which model ect... ect... ect...
All I need is the files to download and the information on what the files will fix, instructions on how to do the FW upgrade. That's it. I really don't understand why we have/need 10,000 posts to accomplish this.
Any help is appreciated. (and please don't post "go read these threads")

I used my A2 to update my 805 (DSP only) and the update went fine. My 805 is FW 1.06/07925A. Of course it took two attempts as I did not hit return as instructed (in bold letters no less).

I have the same FW version as you do on my 805. I believe you will want to update the FW to 1.08 as well as doing the DSP update. The DSP update alone did not resolve the audio delay issue with my 805. When 1.08 becomes available for the 805 I will update the FW as well.

Owners of the 905 that did both the DSP and FW update have reported that the audio delay issue is fixed on their units. I am guessing that the 1.08 FW is needed as well (along with the DSP update) with my 805. I am sure it will be available in the near future.

I used a Zenith DV318 DVD Player. In the main 905 thread I noted some people were only getting DSP2 and DSP3 to update. I'm wondering if this was because the CD wasn't started from the very beginning when the receiver was put into DSP programing mode. I was able to ensure this on my DV318 by starting the CD playing, hitting "stop", putting the receiver in programming mode, then hitting "Previous Track" on the DVD Player.

Here it is for the 805: yes, there seem to be 2 updates: one will update the DSPs, but not the main firmware. This will mainly take care of the DTS MA bomb issue, plus other posters have reported improvements with lipsync, audyssey set up, etc. There are detailed instructions included in the setup folder which joerod has been emailing out. The main firmware update is not yet here for the 805 as far as I know, only the 905 people are installing it. I also have 1.06 for now. If you need the setup folder, PM me and I will forward you what I got from joerod.

875 updated via an Oppo 983. Played an audio CD first to get player and receiver into PCM mode. Worked perfectly. All 3 DSP's match the revision info in the pdf file.

I am thinking Onkyo makes lemons here. Got the file from Joerod, tried BD 30, XA2 and an old Toshiba, and I get ****. Tried changing the BD 30 to PCM, I got squat, I all 3 plays, the disc just plays, no screen display on the Onkyo... This is a total joke, I feel like dumping the 805.
